Happy Gilmore 2? Hmmm the possibilities

What you thinking...MMA as the sport. Kevin James as the best friend. We'll say maybe losing the family home or have to raise money for a dire need as the "issue". Maybe Nina Dobrev or Emmanuelle Chriqui as the pretty love interest and you have a bonafide 2.5 star hit!

Getting rid of Arrested Development and signing for 4 new Adam Sandler movies? Fuck you Netflix.

One is satisfying a large part of their subscriber base (my family watches his shitty flicks every now and then) the other caters to a few dozen of us, just the sad result of our reality.

It may be that. I enjoyed Mr Deeds back in the day but I watched it recently and only chuckled once.

I used to love that movie too but I'm not sure how it would be if I watched it today. Maybe the "no daddy no" and the tackling scenes but that's about it.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I know everyone is going to rip on this but I'd LOVE if Sandler did a mature well written and directed serious film, maybe a dark comedy or something at least more mature and thoughtful than his usual unfunny crap. Something more in the veins of Punch Drunk Love or Reign Over Me than Grown Ups and his usual fare. Do 3 shitty dumb ass comedies with your buddies and then do one actual worthwhile movie, its not like we haven't seen him do some real acting before. Its possible and I'd enjoy seeing something along those lines.

He's going to keep getting these deals as long as people still watch his movies, which they do.

I can't remember the number of people I heard saying "Yeah, I heard that new Adam Sandler movie is awful. I need to see how bad it is."

That's still a win for Netflix.

Adam Sandler one of the leading comedians in the film world, and his movies have proven to be extremely successful with our subscribers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer. “We are thrilled at the opportunity to extend our partnership with Adam and his entire team at Happy Madison and keep the world laughing.

The real takeaway here is that Adam Sandler fans still have enough brain cells left to sign up for Netflix with a credit card.

The reactions ITT...

What is surprising or a bad idea about this? That Netflix is financing Sandler's terrible movies?

Adam Sandler has always put out critically panned movies that do well with certain audiences. He's continuing to do just that, except now Netflix benefits from it. Anyone else who doesn't understand this is either too young to remember his movies have always been regarded as a steaming pile of crap by critics or too old to enjoy them for what they have always been (dumb low-brow humor).

Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are guilty pleasures. I know they're trash but they're hilarious.

Oh and 50 first dates was pretty great too, but most of his movies are a miss for me.

Yeah I loved Billy Madisn and Happy Gillimore as a teen. I wonder how many of his films from now I would have enjoyed back then, Maybe it's not Sandler who's changed, but me?

Fine by me. They're easy to ignore and they give them more money to spend on things that interest me.

This isn't exactly surprising; it's a movie that's exclusive to Netflix. And he is famous.

Whereas actually good/big Hollywood films don't come to Netflix until they've been watched in theaters and rented on other services millions and millions of times (and pirated). There's only so many people who care to wait until films come to Netflix and/or watch movies more than once if they've already seen them.

I'd be more curious to see the cost/benefit ratio. It's still probably high, but there may be other movies with a higher return on investment.
