Netflix The Witcher is nothing but pigheaded white male supremacist fantasy and I’m triggered!!

For what it's worth, Grace Randolph says it's a really good season. Says the last few episodes are tremendous.

I stopped watching the review after she said that, which was in the first few minutes of the vid, because she tends to spoil things in her supposedly non-spoiler reviews as they progress, but if anyone is interested here it is

Because they finally start to stick to book stories. There are still some problems but overall they follow stories of books pretty closely. It is first 3 eps where short stories are jumbled up with original writing which fails miserably creating out of witcher some tolkien esque pulp fantasy.

This is an outrage!

Anya Chalotra walks around in the 5th episode with her boobs hanging out for man pleasing purposes.

Further proof that Witcher 3 is a misogynistic show.

Which makes no sense because in books none of those scenes happened. Litearlly chicj who wrote it added extra boobs where they were not needed and skipped actually intimate parts of Geralt meeting yennefer for no reason.

Netflix has caved to White suprematism and delivered a show that is a huge step back to women, LGBTQ representation and oppressed people of color.

As a male feminist I just watch the first episode and I am already triggered!!!

All of you here on GAF saying this show was SJW material were clearly scheming to get us to watch the show, boosting the Netflix viewing numbers. Now Netflix thinks this show is hot ticket and will create more bigoted content to satisfy their new bigoted audience. The Witcher was supposed to another safe space but you robbed us of that.

What all was oppressive about the Witcher? Let's start with the first episode!

The list of crimes:
Barely a single person of all color! None until 40 minutes in! All white skinned actors/actresses. Director was clearly a racist and a homophobe.

Geralt walks into a white sorcerers house and it gratuitously shows naked white women working in a garden doing an old white males bidding! What a patriarchal misogynist reinforcing this notion that women are nothing more than flesh!

The worst part this supposedly all powerfully wizard white girl who is a threat needs a male to protect her who uses her as his sex toy!

Little Ciri has a white male designated as her "Destiny!"

Of course the black person that does show up is a bad guy who gets killed by the white male hero.

The show is an outrageous set back to woman and people of color. No LGBTQ representation either. Not a single scene of two colored males kissing!

This is satire.

I can't wait to read how this is called SJW material.
Wow, it really triggered you that people called out the writing staff and show runner.

It's gonna be okay. 😂

First Starfire now Triss. What does Hollywood have against casting actually 10/10 redheads
Hah!

Starfire was no where near the first redhead/ginger to get race swapped, not even from the DC TV shows!

It's practically a cliche at this point.

It was clearly a plot to get us diversity champions to watch the show and boost NetFlix numbers.

Such bigotry and misogyny is offensive and disrespectful. Too many memes and hastags will go to waste if we allow such a thing to go unanswered.

Did you say...

"naked white women working in a garden"

I'm fucking on it now. Thanks for the info.
There is an old legend...
...passed by from generation to generation...
...from father to son...
...but so much time passed, and time dulls the minds and memories...
...not many know of it, nowadays...
...but who still does, they swear it's true...
...it's an old tale...
...that you can possibly find porn on the internet.

Lol oh I know I frecuent xvideos lol but beyond tht I have a sexy woman at home butttt nothing wrong with a few white maidens, naked in witcher 😁

I actually just started watching it now.

I'm six minutes into the first episode, since I didn't know this had released until I saw this thread.

So far, the CG has been about year-2000-tier, the lines have been painfully campy, and there's a subtle and weird DoF around the edges of the screen. And a character just asked for "two beers," which is that annoying trope seemingly all shows use.
And I like how they're insulting his clothes, but his outfit is nicer than every other person's in town.

Superman completely nailed Geralt's voice, though.

I'm going to change my initial hype from "AAA Witcher Show" to "B Witcher Show" and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I'm definitely surprised at the (low)quality, thus far, though.

Hopefully the gardening scenes are good.

EDIT: Now that's what I call a well-tended garden!

I'm about 20 minutes in now, and this show feels EXACTLY like the video game.
In terms of TV shows, it's pretty 'meh' so far. But in terms of faithful adaptations from previous sources, this is top-notch.

EDIT again: Woah now. I clearly see a black guy at 22 minutes. OP is a damned liar!
Mind you, he appears to be a servant/slave, but you're a liar nonetheless!

EDIT again again: Black guy servant is actually a knight? Now I'm just confused.
He showed up at 33 minutes, though. OP, I'm triggered by your fake triggering.

Ooooh man. I'm sorry to rag on this if anybody is really into it, but this show is hilarious at this point.
I just finished episode 2, and this is pretty much Power Rangers-tier. The goat-guy is so hilarious-looking that I laughed out loud, which is something a show hasn't made me do in quite a while.

There are a couple cool parts, like Geralt's fighting at the end of episode 1, which had some surprisingly brutal combat; but the rest of this show is more funny than serious.

I'm enjoying it because I'm watching it in the same vein I'd watch something like "The I-Land," but I don't see myself ever actually recommending this to somebody else, unless they're in the mood for some campyness.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still going to finish the series, and I'm definitely enjoying it. It's just for vastly different reasons than I thought they'd be, when the show was first announced.

Well looks like im installing the Witcher again.

Finished The first episode.

It's very easy for me to watch this. I like it so far. As someone who played the games and not read the book I'm understanding most of the references and it's honestly pretty cool. I find myself having a nice little nostalgia/ "hey I know what that is" moments.

They nailed Geralt. He couldn't be much more like he is in the games. Great job there with casting/direction.

The music is so fun to listen to, its similar to the game in some moments without being some overbearing bass ridden 'score'.

Im really glad its "mature" in its content. So far all the fighting and monsters have been pretty good.

Gonna have to try pretty hard to not just binge all this. And that's a great thing.

Overall im in.

That nilfguardian armor is poop tho. WTF were they thinking?

Watched the first episode and I liked it and it reminds me of the witcher 3 game a lot (music!)

The opening scene in the swamp? Heh, that was nice as hell.

Now ill keep on watching until I fall asleep for tonight.

First episode.... awful. Just awful.

Bad acting, way too much dialogue, bad CG. Deaths of characters we don't know or care about, treated as "big" moments.

It's a cluster fuck of boring and I don't care.

What a fucking mess. Shame on you Netflix.

SHAME.

Can someone tell me if this gets better because it's trash tier and I don't want to spend anymore time on it.

You should probley just stop watching and spare us your outlandish opinions.

The music in Ep 2 sounded remarkably similar to the main theme from DOS: 2. Definitely liked Ep 2 better than Ep 1 though and hoping the rest of the season is better too.

BInged it yesterday. First ep is the weakest one, followed by ep 5. 2-4 & 6-8 are good to very good.
There are some questionable choices they made and the writing/dialogue can be really bad in the first few episodes, but overall i really enjoyed it.
I would rate it 7,5/10 - a good start into the series and a nice set up for season 2.

Henry Cavill nails it as Geralt - easily the best part of the series.

And god damn...yen got some nice tits!

If it helps, it's a cheesy low budget tv show. Reminds me of [Xena]warrior princess but somehow less charming.

Just finished episode 3, and that's the same feeling I'm getting.

This show feels like a better version of Dungeons and Dragons, the movie.
It's definitely not good. But it's watchable, if you're going into it with the expectation that you're watching Mortal Kombat or Chronicles of Riddick, or something equally B/C-grade.

Maybe the rest of the season will change my mind, but I doubt it. I still have hope, though, because I love The Witcher and I really want this to become a major thing.

My buddy just watched the first three episodes as well, and he's never heard of the franchise.
He said "It's really hard to follow if you have not read the books or played the games." And, "It feels really rushed, like if Game of Thrones was pushed into 30 minute episodes."

I can't say I disagree.

No LGBTQ representation either. Not a single scene of two colored males kissing!

This is satire.

Pretty much sets it apart from almost every other original Netflix show then (The Dragon Prince and She-Ra and the most recent ones I've watched). They seem to go out of their way to "normalize" the LGBTBBQ lifestyle.

I have to take issue with your post, however. Almost all the villains are white, so that should earn some woke points.

But then again the token gimp was "fixed", implying that people with handicaps are indeed handicapped and thus somehow "unequal" to others.

Also going to just say it - while it's been entertaining so far (only halfway thru), it feels like just a step up from a SyFy (or however they spell it now) show.

Fun fact: I just woke up and in my dream I was watching the Witcher and I saw Colin Kaepernick's name appear in the credits. He was playing a wizard who spent the whole episode kneeling.

I'm shocked this is sitting at 57 percent on RT for critic score

this season is awesome

why is getting panned?

It has well written strong females
It has well written strong males
It has well cast diversity
It has something for everybody?

I just don't get it. I love it. Love it.
