So basically I'm going to purchase a Raspberry Pi 3 soon and most likely set it up as a VPN server.
I don't want to subsrcibe to some sort of external VPN service so I suppose my first question is: Is it possible to set up an encrypted VPN without the use of an external service/software?
If for whatever reason that is not possible, is the next option to use OpenVPN?
I'm not really looking to hide my location or anything like that, I'm more interested in encrypting my home network, having access to it anywhere.
Secondly I'm thinking of setting up NAS and connected it to my LAN. Idea being that I could then access files, videos etc.. from anywhere, and then I could also give my family who live in different houses access to a master collection of files/shared drive etc...
Is this a good/the right approach?
The setup would likely be Raspberry Pi 3 connected directly with Ethernet to my router, NAS connected either directly to the router with Ethernet or directly to the Raspberry Pi with Ethernet. I'm possibly thinking of buying a second dual band wifi router, disabling wifi/DHCP on the one provided by my ISP and then allowing my second router to manage DHCP, port forwarding etc...
Any advice regarding this? Or additional things I might need/want/are cool?
