I just brought home a new 30 inch LCD HD Display to replace my dual monitor setup (Two 17" crts). Everything was beautiful including the colors and detail of all my games, movies, tech demos, etc.. But when I opened Word I was blinded by the bright whites. I shielded myself almost coming to my knees. I felt like Linda Hamilton in the dream sequence of the atomic bombs in Terminator 2.

Problem is that I have to turn down the brightness considerably to the point where I lose quality and detail. The whites are so bad I changed my whole desktop scheme. Here are some pictures.

A small dose of the pain I had to go through.

SO far, I'm moving the monitor further back by removing the hutch from my desk which should help and adjusting the brightness ever so lightly (tomarrow this is what I'm going to do). Anyone else here come in contact with a similar problem?

Does your display have any quick presets you can swap between? With my Mitsu I often change modes depending on what I'm doing with the screen.

Why would you buy a display that incredible and then ruin it with such an ugly fucking color scheme.

Pull a Keanu and do the sunglasses while computing thing.

LOL I was SOOOOOOO thinking of doing that. See this HD LCD wasn't being sold as a computer monitor, in fact its just meant to be a high quality HD TV. It's an HD TV display with all the bells and whistles. (With every connection, dual component, dual DVI, dual RGB, dual RCA jacks, the works.) I thought I could make a bad ass high quality PC monitor out it instead of the bulky dual CRTs.

The quality while watching Discovery HD was outstanding. Way better then the Apple Cinemas and any LCD, Plasma, HD set they had there (anywhere period). But I think I over stepped my bounds a bit. I will talk tomarrow with the best buy employee. I got the full package (4 year coverage just incase my PC fucks it up later on). He said if there were any trouble that he would send someone over (actually this is what I thought I heard). Guess I'll take him up on it.

It really is a beautiful display. The only thing I've seen close is this Sony one that was around 10 grand with the biggest most gorgeous display I've ever seen. When I came across this smaller (30 inch) LCD display with the same quality I almost lost it. Everything is perfect, it is just the whites. I changed the scheme only to not have to be blinded by word and firefox when they uses white backgrounds (aka Google).

EDIT.
Oddly enough, he didn't tell me to show up there at best buy or call anyone. He gave me his personal cell number and told me he'd come over personally.

Best Buy employees don't normally do that sort of thing. Might want to be wary, unless you're into him ;b

LCD-TV's are brighter than regular LCD TV monitors =) You should be able to turn down the brightness -- you'll lose some contrast but your eyes will get accustomed to it and it'll look better.

So far I've found a temporary solution. Turning the color temperature setting to warm. My colors are great just the whites are dullish. Now when I remove the hutch and move it further back where I intended it to be, hopefully everything will be fine. (Also reducing the brightness a couple of notches.) Sucks though, since the quality of the wallpaper is simply outstanding..
