I hope "back to basics" means "not for 5 year olds"
Ultimate Spider-Man was completely ruined by the ridiculous overuse of the quippy narrative and kid jokes. The actual artstyle and story telling wasn't that bad but the show was made waaay too juvenile.

It's frustrating because animated superhero has already proven that an all-ages show can be popular by, you know, all ages.

Stop making kid's crap.

Avengers Assemble is no EMH but it's actuallg still pretty decent tbh
I saw the first few episodes and the most kind thing I can say about it is it wasn't Ultimate. Combine that with me still being salty over EMH, and I just couldn't stick with it; too many other good animated superhero shows for me to deal with AA.

Disney/Marvel needs to get real and hire Timm. Even after the Killing Joke, I still trust him more than Loeb. They don't care though, cause they only care about toys.

Looking forward to Lord and Miller's Spiderman movie though.

I hate myself for still having it dvred. Seriously every 2 mins is a deadpool 4th wall break that isn't even funny in any capacity

Perlmutter sucks.

Fixed.

Anyway, on one hand I was really hoping for something like Spectacular meets MCU. On the other hand, Peter, Miles, and Gwen is already a much better team than Ultimate and at least it's not desperately trying to ride the coattails of the MCU like the Loeb days did so much.

What's the deal with the recent Spider-Man cartoons trying to make every new show "Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends"? It's probably just to sell toys but Spider-Man works better when he isn't weighed down by a bunch of teen superhero characters who he has to babysit. Hopefully Gwen and Miles have more independent stories outside of being Peter's roommates or whatever, but I wouldn't be surprised if the show had them all being best friends in high-school.

new spidey series looks great

fuck bruce timm. he would try to shove in garbage drama like Gwen's relationship with Osborne

Thank god now just work Silk in there eventually.
Im over solo Spiderman just about as much as im tired of solo Batman.
Wouldn't mind seeing Silk.

I think Marvel doesn't want to do solo superhero shows now.

what will it take for them to make a decent spider-man show? Why shoehorn stupid alternate universe bullshit?
Boils down to merchandise sales, I'm sure. Spider-man toys and shirts sell better than ones of his villains, so what to do? Feature more Spider-mans.

I'd love more of a focus on Spider Gwen, but not if she's being relegated to sidekick material :/

The whole point of her character is kind of nerfed.

I felt the same exact way about Assemble in the first season. With Ultimate, I could at least respect it for being different, but Assemble felt like such a slap to the face. S2 and onward have been quite enjoyable save fo really stupid writing here and there.

That stuff had more less been booted out of the show some around Season 3. It's mostly just fourth wall recaps or intros now. Though I've had that Spider Slayer saga on my DVR that I can't bring myself to watch, just looks so dumb and tiresome. Moon Knight Before Christmas was a hoot though. Deidrich Bader was awesome as Moon Knight!

But anyway, I agree Marvel should just give up on animation and just hand the reigns over to Disney. Big Hero 6 is going to wipe the floor with them!

Despite the Orphan worship I knew you had good taste

I guess you aren't so bad yourself!

Hopefully she shows up in this she was adapted for toys and games pretty quickly so maybe it will happen. Surprised she didn't appear on Ultimate.

I really hope this SpiderGwen isn't the main Earth's Gwen.
It would lose a lot to it imo.

wonder if they do Gwenpool...

They even had JK Simmons voice Jameson, but all he did was be a ranting billboard. What a waste.
Ultimate Spider-man is full of bad decisions.

Spider-Team's more interesting than just doing Spider-Man Homecoming: The Cartoon (and people would just complain about the latter being lazy pandering, just like the GOTG cartoon).

The Ultimate writers are far and away from this, so it should work much better this time.

Welp I'm out then.

Insomniac are literally the only hope for a decent Spider-Man entertainment release not being focus grouped for children or being tied for a cinematic universe forcing him to be young. His best stories take place after his high school days.

It's baffling how much I'm seeing Parker in high school when he originally wasn't in high school for this long in the comic run. Hoping Insomniac can satisfy those who feel alienated like myself from the direction this character has taken in entertainment media. I'd be entirely cool with this and the movie as long as the game has an older and well done Parker. The trailer had a very Sam Raimi feel to it.

Best wishes.

Did you honestly expected a Spider-Man cartoon by Disney that didn't put Peter in as a teenager (at least from the start)? I mean, we haven't had a non-high school Spidey on television since the MTV show.

Honestly, it doesn't seem like a bad idea if they only focus on those three. I wonder how Marvel is going to deal with Sony making an animated Miles Morales movie though, seems like it might confuse kids.

I have zero problems with miles or gwen ... but why a team ?

Rumor has that Peter has the live action and Miles has the animated movie so give the tv series only for Gwen

Shows that come back after being cancelled are rarely anywhere near as good as they were when they were first on anyway.

It was probably better off at Sony anyway, the show was hyper focused on Spider-man and his mythos to its benefit, Disney would just want to push crossovers with other heroes constantly.

EDIT: The two head guys on this one being from Robot Chicken and Ultimate Spider-man don't really fill me with a lot of hope.
I will send for you when Young Justice S3 comes thru

Would trade Young Justice Season 3 for Spectacular Spider-Man Season 3 tbh.

I might agree. I'd say Young Justice is a great cartoon, but Spectacular is the best Spidey has been out of the comic. And in many respects, including the comic.

With Marvel Studios working with Sony on the movie, I was naively hoping they'd let Sony make a third season. But I suppose the film and cartoon divisions aren't communicating like that.

I'd say I disagree. Spidey is my favorite superhero by a mile and Spectactular is amazing but there was a little extra magic in YJ to me. They made me like Aqualad. I had no idea who tf that was till that show

That's fair! And to be honest I didn't like the first season of YJ enough to watch much of the second. It's probably for the best that I'm not making these executive decisions.

Or any decisions. :(

Are you seriously whining because a single superhero out of the current superhero renaissance is a kid, and kids shouldn't be allowed to have any superheros when comic books were originally entirely for kids? Because wow.

Hopefully, this doesn't go for the more overly jokey "ha-ha" juvinelle, that was Ultimate Spider-Man, and instead, tries for the strong character development that Specatular did.

Not getting my hopes up too much, though, since I'm expecting another subpar Spidey cartoon in general. The "back to the basics" thing, could mean anything really.

if miles is on the lineup, good luck asking for this

I may be in the minority on this, but I'm sick of all these other spider-people running around with Peter. It makes it seem like he can't do anything on his own without these other people taking up space. It should be Peter, solo, with other heroes showing up from time to time and then have Miles appear for Peter to mentor.

Kid Iron Fist and kid Luke Cage are the worst.

I completely missed this announcement.
I haven't paid attention to Marvel cartoons in years. Any good ones recently aside from Spectacular Spider-Man and EMH? Is Guardians worth watching?
The first few episodes of Justice League Action haven't really done it for me sadly.
