New Black Screesn - Criterions FPS

a trackball controller :lol

no thank you.

p.s. and also, since they went to the trouble to make a new controller, primarily for FPS. why the fuck did they leave the shitty domed analog stick on the left? and why did they leave it in the secondary position?

That’s a prototype. And I play alot of FPS's on PC; I can tell you that flying planes in BF1942 with a trackball is the same as using a flight stick! They are that good.

Damn I can't imagine playing GTA or Ace Combat IV with that controller, it's gonna be godly. Can't wait.

My point was simply that after playing those games, these screenshots are not impressive to me. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at, but that's my opinion. I like the look of the explosions. That's about it.

Because they are PS2 shots.

PS2

Halo 2 and Riddick aren't on PS2 and if I remember correctly YOU don't even have a PS2, so why are you commenting?

Comparing a PS2 shooter to an Xbox one isn't the smartest thing to do, you know. This looks WAY better than Killzone, close to Half-Life 2 even (at least on those small shots).

seems like everything I wanted to say was already mentioned in one way or another
the game looks good, but the screens are too shrunken to really tell (NOT AA...and about AA...sprite based explosions like that won't benefit much, if at all :b) and the textures look a bit basic...

about the trackball controller: trackball = high accuracy. left analog stick = wsad. Game support will probably be low (that is games that will use the trackball as effectively as a PC FPS would)

knowing criterion...I wouldn't be too suprised if this was 60FPS@480p on the PS2

What difference does the system make? It's a game. And why is comparing an Xbox shooter to a PS2 shooter not the smartest thing? According to you, this game looks as good as Half-Life 2. olimario said it was the best looking console FPS. So far, that's unproven. Not untrue, but unproven.

What I am really wondering is where did this pics came from?

I remember at last year's E3 the fuzz this game caused, people raving about an amazing game shown only behind closed doors, and we only got a screen (I remember the scan).

Where are those from?

This game has a totally different dynamic to those. It's very...destructible :D Expect heavy particle effects, great physics etc.

Not true though since xbox can export from the frame buffer and pcs can do pretty good AA.
Eh? How does that get AA on the majority of XBox games that don't have it? My point was, very few devs are using AA in current gen console games, so you commenting on lack of jaggies and associating that as a specific reason why these can't be PS2 shots is inaccurate especially when the simpler, more likely explanation for the lack of jaggies is because the shots have been downsized.

How can you prove an opinion smart guy?

why the fuck did they leave the shitty domed analog stick on the left?
Being domed doesn't make it any better or worse, to me at least.

and why did they leave it in the secondary position?
Where's the problem? Are you bothered that the right analog stick is on the 'secondary' position in the xbox controller? Why people never complain about that, but as soon as it comes to the left stick it's such a big problem all of a sudden.

This is one of the rare instances where I have to agree with Speevy. I'm still waiting to be impressed. I've been a Criterion groupie since the original Burnout but these are shots are too small, just show off drab, urban environments and don't convey evidence of that 'hook' that's supposed to differentiate Black from other FPS's out there, i.e. "the feel of the gun"

as nice as this looks, I don't want to play FPS games on a Dual Shock =/

And yes the Next Gen is coming too soon. Anyone who's been gaming for awhile should know this. Best stuff comes out long into a consoles life and now we're getting that tail end cut off.

the domed analog stick is shit. if you can't recognize concave is superior, you're opion sucks. ;)

as far as the second analog stick, uhhh.. because the buttons on a controller are very important to a consoles other games? where the fuck would you put the buttons if you put the analog stick there? the second analog stick in the lower position is out of necessity.

the second analog stick in the lower position is out of necessity.
Just saying, I've never heard anyone complain about this - ever. Complain about right hand being cramped because of the imperfect position of stick, not being able to control the point of view as precisely as he could, or something to that degree. It just seems like everything's OK as long as it's not left stick for some weird reason. It makes it even more weird when you consider that the right stick in FPS games is being used for more delicate and precise task (aiming) than the left one, and still noone finds it awkward that it's located in the 'secondary' position, nor it seems like it's seriously hampering anyone's efficiency in FPS games.

The above should just tell you how getting used to something has everything to do with it, and that's pretty much all there's to it :\

I think a big part of it is that the sticks are more separated, and they are nowhere near as loose as those in the DS. It makes it more comfortable and easier to control.

Can't see the piccies mate. You bandwidth is exceeded.

Can you post colour piccies please. These ones are in black and white...

Looks pretty damn great, not that it's surprising from Criterion. Son of a bitch, did EA ever buy the right company.

:(
