Technically, looks absolutely shit hot. Truly next gen. I think this pretty well proves that games with an 'unrealistic' style still have a long way to go before diminishing returns.

Wow, it's really subtle but those shots remind me of claymation.

Looks awesome. Next Gen shaders ftw.

That's the intent, according to Sakaguchi. I think it's a great effect.

Looks gorgeous... I love the whale ship design, and I can't wait to explore the town in the background of the second image. Looks like there's stuff to do in the skies as well as underwater, if these images are any indication.

The video here: http://xboxyde.com/news_2411_en.html single handedly moved Blue Dragon to my Top 5 Most Wanted.

Looks stunning!
Wow. Watching that trailer, combined with the really nice music, gave me goosebumps. I feel like the last time an RPG did that to me was when I saw screenshots of Grandia on the Saturn for the first time. Man...

Thanks for posting that up... sign me up for an X360.

I hope and pray this and Lost Odyssey turn out well. They had better turn out well when so much was spent on securing their presence on the 360 in the first place.

I'm predicting that this is the generation that RPGs finally make their return as my favorite genre. RPGs were my favorite games for a while because they usually had the best of several categories... The best graphics, music, and even story. They were incredibly immersive. Now, although there were several rpgs that I liked on PS2, I didn't get as much enjoyment as I did out of them on the PSX. One of the main reasons is graphics. Unless it is a strategy rpg, I certainly don't play rpgs for their battle system. In fact, most rpgs I've played, I've found the battle system to be tedious. I find the main reason I play rpgs are for expressiveness. Now, I actually feel that a lot of games were downgraded graphically, in a sense, once they hit the PS2.

The Final Fantasy series is one example. Although the character and enemy models looked superior to the PSX renditions, the backgrounds lost quite a bit. They didn't contain anywhere near the detail of the prerendered backgrounds of a game like Final Fantasy 8. Although I do like expressive characters, I'm someone that believes that a lot of if not the majority of a visual work's wow factor is in the background (if it does indeed have a background). I've been more a fan of landscapes than portraits, so naturally I was a bit let down visually.

What ESPECIALLY excites me with the Xbox360/PS3 is that these systems will have enough power not only to maintain the expressive nature of the models, but also they will be able to keep the backgrounds up to par and in full 3d. Look at the Final Fantasy 7 demo on PS3, and look at this game... The backgrounds look wonderful and the characters are extremely expressive as well.

Imagine a new Chrono Trigger with the backgrounds of Chrono Cross done in REAL TIME, with models as expressive as the ones here in Blue Dragon. Now it's easy to see why I'm so excited what this upcoming generation.

The music in the game is so beautiful so far... each of those quick shots fills the viewer with wonder and a great sense of adventure.

Was that Toriyama in the shot with Sakaguchi? Or "just" a Mist Walker artist? Sorry, I don't know what Toriyama looks like. Anyway, thanks for posting that!

EDIT: Forget it, Sakaguchi clearly says, "Toriyama-san, sugoi!/amazing!" and then there's text that says it's him (Toriyama Akira-san (Honmono!!/Seriously!!)). Missed it the first time. :lol

Sakaguchi, Toriyama, and Uematsu are behind this game; of course, the last time they worked together on a game we got Chrono Trigger.

The graphics are amazing. The art direction really helps them stand out even more though; one of my problems with Kameo is that, despite the amazing visuals, the art is pretty generic and ugly to me. This game is like the opposite. Wow. Plus the water effects really are amazing.

The concept of using shadows and such is interesting, and I can't wait for this game. If I had to make a list of my top 5 most anticipated 360 games, this would be on there along with RE5/Gears of War/Halo 3/Too Human. Nice.

I simply refuse to get pumped for this game for several reasons. First and foremost I have zero chance of playing it in English for at least a year and a half. Second, the programmers haven't pretty much ever made a decent game, so I refuse to believe it's good until seeing some reviews, probably a year from now.

Looks pretty good though.

Are you really trying to compare this to Chrono Trigger? :lol

Oh yeah, and Mitsuda did Chrono Trigger, not really Uematsu much. You also can't forget Kato, Kitase, and Horii were involved.

At the risk of sounding redundant (I have to mention this in every Blue Dragon scan thread), that water is not any better than what was in FF: CC.

NOW WITH THAT SAID.... this game looks fucking amazing. These are the type of games Microsoft needs to secure for the Japanese market if they want to have any kind of chance. Hopefully the Japanese gamers can put aside their apathy to the X360 once these types of games start releasing.

wtf, they are the exact same shots from the trailer you said wasnt impressive
Don't mind him, the fact that anything is hosted on my site automatically makes it suck.

Edit: Uematsu isn't even doing Blue Dragon. He's doing the game I'm hoping more people will start anticipating over this, Lost Odyssey.
He's doing both games :

Blue Dragon is a contemporary role-playing game with Sakaguchi as creative lead, former Final Fantasy composer Nobou Uematsu as lead music director, and manga superstar Akira Toriyama as character artist.

It's probably slightly better in Blue Dragon... but not "next gen" like... I'm sure PS2, XBOX for GC could handle water such as that without much difficulty. However, I haven'tr seen the physics and that could make the difference. But the water is just a small part of BD's beauty though. I'm really like the look of it.
