Jaipur which I rated a 7, currently ranked 94 on BGG which is a solid fine game, is no where near better than Glass road rated at 191, which ever way you slice it.
New folks into the hobby are probably missing out on some fine games if they take the rankings as gospel.
Say what you like about video game rankings but I think there a better indication of what's good.
We'd tear ourselves apart before we agreed on a top 10, haha.
It's worth it. I have the 1st printing, and it's all my game group wants to play. You will easily get hundreds of hours of enjoy from the purchase. My copy was a bit cheaper but I have no regrets.

You know what I forgot yesterday? Viticulture Essential Edition! It's made by the same guy who made Scythe, has nice art, has a nicely integrated theme, and has a classy feel. It also doesn't involve being a total dick to other players.
If you check it out and like it, you can pick up Tuscany Essential Edition to make the game even more solid.
If you're talking top 10 overall games, I'm fine with Scythe, 7 Wonders Duel, and Gloomhaven being there. Heck, The Castles of Burgundy probably belongs there if you take out the unbalanced board.
I haven't played the others besides Terra Mystica which I was lukewarm on.
*edit* DOUBLEPOST OF SHAME
1) Mage Knight
2) Inis
I can agree on this
What video reviewers does everyone recommend that can explain game mechanics well and who you know have a fair view if the game is good or not?
And thus you see how opinions differ. I wouldn't put TM on any top 10 list, probably not even top 20.None of those belong, aside from maybe TM.

Glass road sucks. kinda weird this opinions thing huh?
Where are they? I just got the Millennium Blades pro characters mini expansion but didn't realize there were new battlecon characters.Oh my lord the new BattleCON characters and INSANE
I use bgg ranking but with a grain of salt..
Boardgaming is a forest..
Plus LOT of people only play a relatively small number of largely available games.. thus older games, greater games with low print and great games that come in a relatively crowded timeframe with a low print are easily screwed..
I mean.. I tried one game of scythe and it was good.. but not top 100 good if you ask me
I like Rahdo https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoLvU6o3JnE341uPAQ9KCUQ (who has recently improved his top 10s by showing images of the game). You have to stop the final thoughts at the point where he whinges that either "it isn't a two player game" or "there is too much conflict" but beyond that he explains things well, explains the strategy behind decisions and will also generally call out flaws.
I'd rather play Jaipur than Glass Road.
I can say that my favorite game right now is Great Western Trail. It's the one I've craved playing the most lately.
Probably.....
Mage Knight
Resistance
Eclipse
Twilight Imperium
BattleCON
Kingdom Death: Monster
Through the Ages
Terra Mystica
Indonesia
Cthulhu Wars
I guess man I dunno
I kickstarted the original Cthulhu Wars game, but I've never played it. It's just chilled on my shelf for YEARS. Is it really good? I understand there's been two updated versions of it now, do you know if I need to get anything from those or should I just play the game as is?
You should get all of the errata. Factions have been updated and balance tweaked since release. You need those 100%, but they have released upgraded components as well if that sort of thing interests you. Also the base game comes with 4 factions, and there are now 3 extra factions available with one more on the way. If you want to play 5 players you will have to pick one up.
Same here. I've got several dozen games that would all probably be in contention for my top 10 if I could ever play them. I've been wrong about tons of things before though, so having a feeling of 'I'm pretty sure I'd love Catacombs' isn't enough. My list would probably radically change if I can play half the games I wanted to
I've read and researched Quantum quite a bit. I know there isn't too much overlap between it and Alien Frontiers other than 'space theme' and lots of dice, but that's enough to draw me in. I'm curious to know what you like about it though. I've noticed a lot of your posts are trashing other games, which there is nothing wrong with. I've read so many of your posts about disliking 'x' games (which again, I'm not complaining about your posts), so it does make me curious what about Quantum makes you like it and what your impressions of it are.In no order because I'd tear MYSELF apart;
War of the Ring (ok this is def #1. It's literally perfect)
Inis
Innovation
Twilight Imperium
Blood Bowl Team Manager
Concordia
BSG
Le Havre
Chaos in the Old World
Troyes
Honorable mentions to Monikers, Forbidden Stars, GoT 2nd Ed, Quantum, Chronicle, Lords of Vegas and a dozen more.

And insane in a power creep way?
The Millennium Blades promo character, right? That sounds like how she plays based off of a quick reading of her kit when my stuff showed up. I really like her character design after being updated from the MB art style to the BattleCON style.I got my Trials of Indines KS pledge in and we played a few games. Power creep not so much but just some of the unique abilities. One of the master characters is a fortune teller and you deal yourself a spread of 6 tarot cards (out of 10) facedown at the start of the match. End of beat each time you flip one up and you get the effect on it the next beat. Thing is, about half of them are dependent on being positioned next to faceup cards, and she has styles that allow her to look at facedown cards and swap positions. So you are fighting oyur fight while trying to position and flip the best tarot cards for the next beat at the same time. Once you flip your final card you keep that one, pick up the rest, shuffle with the left over from start of game and deal 5 new ones facedown. She was a very fun character.

Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering what it had to it that grabbed you. Those are all things that I think look good about it: the simplicity, the modular board, rolling dice (and that the dice represent ships; I like that about Alien Frontiers but this takes it farther with different dice faces representing different types of ships), the speed of play...its just super tight game design. Its one of those "that's it?" games, that's incredibly easy to teach yet offers a nice amount of tactical maneuvering to outpace your opponents. Its fun chucking the dice and hoping for a new ship you need, but it's not just a luck fest. The board is infinitely customizable for replayability, you usually only go through a small portion of the cards each game so that keeps it fresh, and it plays quickly (a big plus for some -- I obviously don't mind long games). I don't think its particularly something that's going to shatter anyone's world when they play it, but I have an appreciation of packing a lot of game into little design space, so to speak (I know that's pretty ironic coming from someone who loves FFG shlock).
I wasn't delivered Trials of Indine yet, but what you describe is what I love about the BattleCON. You would expect that kind of game with that many character, to all look kind of same, but it's really far from the truth ( at least based on what I own, Devastation and Fate ).I got my Trials of Indines KS pledge in and we played a few games. Power creep not so much but just some of the unique abilities.
