New British-based gaming auction site

If you read my post you would see I am affiliated with VGA. I found this thread after it showed up in our site stats as a referral so naturally I came to look.

I really dont understand the issue here though. It's not like it's a retailer trying to get more sales or a forum trying to poach members. I have a retail website and a gaming forum but I have no intention of advertising them here nor in my profile, that wouldn't be right IMO.
VGA is simply an alternative for gamers, it's a place where gamers get to buy and sell their items with like minded gamers rather than have to run the risk with endless pirated materials or get banned for selling legitimate imports.

hey, who knows, you may even try it yourself one day ;)

I wont post here again except to answer any questions or concerns people may have..but I will trot off around these forums and see if I can make some contributions :)

I'm curious as to why the PC Engine gets its own category while most other older systems are lumped together in the "Classic gaming" category :lol. One of the developers of the site a PC Engine fan?

Interesting idea and I hope it takes off. The chicken-egg syndrome (getting a critical mass of users so that you have enough interesting items for sale and enough feedback to be confident of bidding/selling) is going to be hard to overcome, especially for US buyers. I wouldn't mind bidding on a few items currently listed, but since they're all UK sellers (half of whom state they won't ship internationally anyway), I'd have little recourse for going after a scammer.

Some kind of alternative to ePay would be nice though. They've been squeezing pretty hard lately making it very annoying to be a casual seller. Not to mention their lack of interest in shutting down bootleg auctions really pisses me off.

I never understand why people won't ship internationally, it's the same process as shipping nationally, except you say a slightly different word at the post office and pay a little bit more for postage (which the buyer pays anyway).

The amount of times I'll find a rare game boxset, ASCII fighting pad of something on eBay and the seller won't ship it from the US to the UK (where I live). Even when I send an email saying "Please" I still get a "No" in response... WHY? WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

lol..I dont honestly know why PC Engine gets it's own category :D maybe it was felt it deserved it ;)
We have been looking at introducing a verified members system so that every member is verified or at least sellers and buyers have the choice to only deal with verified members. This is not easy to implement as it may scare some people off, but it is definately being looked at I can assure you.
There is US based PR starting over the next few days which we expect to grow the US membership base, funnily enough almost half the current members are actually US citizens.
In the meantime, while the site grows, we have no issues checking out UK sellers for US members, it is the least we can do and hopefully shows our committment to the project.

I think some of the problem is pricing (when it comes to UK gamers selling to US members). US games in the UK would generally fetch a higher price so some sellers would think there's no point offering to sell a US game to a US member because the potential buyer will just think it's overpriced. That's how I see it anyway. This is a hurdle we will overcome in time :)

Pleased to announce the site update is complete.

Feel free to check it out and dont hesitate to give any comments (good or bad).

a few new features include:-

Last Chance Offer (for items that didn't make reserve price)

Ask seller question (publicly) - seller specific as to whether public or not

Item Watching

Suggest a categpry - members can now suggest a new category to be added

Great new store features and control

Some viewing changes, like Recently Bid on now shows highest current bid

Members only announcement area

Voucher system

etc etc

and probably more important than this is the fact that the site has already been removing pirated goods from listing, in some cases within minutes of being posted. This is something that any proper gamer should be pleased to hear. :)
