New Call of Duty Black Ops 3 update adds Micro Transactions

It should be absolutely illigal to patch in microtransaction at a later point. A publisher should not be allowed to alter the product after I have purchased it and if it does I should have the right to get my money back!
No patches either? You make a great point. It should be illegal.

Gaming in 2016 pay to win

The supply drops are pure cosmetic. This image has nothing to do with this update.

What does the current gen look like

Also, cosmetic microtransactions are fine and always have been. They don't affect progress, balance or anything other than "hey I feel like I look cooler than that guy" and really, who cares?
It should be noted that cryptokeys are really easy to earn, so I don't even think it's worth paying for.

I see everyone saying its all cosmetic..yea thats true..NOW...but I see it as opening the door for weapons..ect
I bet they will release new weapons...and maybe scorestreak items soon enough..
They know..if they make it..the sheep will want to buy it.

I think this is microtransaction done right. Base game has a ton of content. The supply drops themselves can be earned in game and at a pretty good rate as well. They even increased the amount of drops you can get with the patch by burning duplicates. The items you get are purely cosmetic in multiplayer like camos and body gear. They are adding more of these cosmetic items into the loot table over time so anyone can earn them by simply playing the game whereas in previous CODs each of these camos would sell for a few bucks per pop. I got a sweet looking illuminati epic head gear just last night opening a drop from just playing a few matches.

As for zombies the microtransactions are for small powerups. Now this could be questionable but zombies is PVE firstly so it doesn't affect anyone else adversely. Secondly most of the powerups you get are actually for the whole team like extra perks, ammo drop, etc, so more often than not if someone else buys these powerups through MTs, you'll benefit from it as well. Not to mention you can earn the powerups in game as well.

Cost isn't the point of that picture. You're literally paying the same (more) for
less
/"same" content.

If anything that picture should be modified to have the "microtransaction" slides be all different colors. It'd be pretty accurate then.
I would say that cost is also the point. The picture makes it look like you have to pay a lot more today to get the same stuff that you got back in 1999. I've been playing since the late 80's personally i can not recall that games back in around 1999 were that more packed with content compared to games today (thinking about the base game).

Why? If you dont want to alter it, then you have the choice to not download the patches (i know that patches are required for online play, but those alters the game as well).

Anyone who's complaining about this is going to have to prove to me they own the game to be taken seriously. There's no problems with this implementation, especially considering they've been doing nothing but increasing the rate or ways that you earn the equivalent in game currencies.

It's camos and taunts. Who cares if people spent on money on those. And it's not that hard to get 10 cryptokeys to buy Supply Drops by just playing the game.

Nice try though Bodies.
Ehh I get where your coming from but it is pretty hard to get crypto keys. But who cares it's cosmetic they better not pull a valve tho ;)

What does 2005 represent?
What 2005 expansion pack was for 40$ and thena copy of the "shoulder" from the full game?
There must be a lot of examples since you posted that pic as the 1st reply, so give me 5.
Unfortunately the majority of people who post outdated meme pics with unbelievable blanket statements about the state of gaming can't actually back them up.

Pretty much this.
Care to back it up with examples then?

Anyone who's played the game would know the implementation here is absolutely harmless and provides no advantage whatsoever.

"Pay to win" ? Get outta here with that noise.

You can get 2-3 a game (5-10m) with the old rate, I'm not sure what the new one gives, but it's faster.
Not sure where the "hard to get" is.

Wait.

It's 200 points for $2, so that means that it's $1 for 100 points then? In that case, why the fuck is it $40 for 3000 with a bonus 1000? Don't plan on ever buying these but if they ever take away the "bonus" points

I think that is 5000 points in total (4000 + 1000 in bonus).

People are seriously mad about this? They're literally the least invasive form of microtransactions possible. You pay to speed up getting a cosmetic item you could already get for free. I think the supply drop items are cools sometimes but I absolutely won't pay to get them faster. it doesn't affect me in any way that there is an option to.

People are seriously drive-by-posting while not understanding the topic, which is a pretty shameful proportion of all replies on GAF.

pretty hard to get crypto keys? you can get 2 or 3 per match and it costs just 10 to get a common supply drop.

a bit confused by the rage here. if map packs are free why care if they are charging for cosmetic crap? you don't have to buy it. community won't get split like before.

but what do you get for your points, no one has said yet. how many cryptokeys for 10 dollars for example

I just bought some, but I don't know how to redeem what I just bought, sadly. Had to go to the store directly as opposed to in-game to do it too.

Yes, I'm one of THOSE people, dressing up my character! :P

I don't think the issue here is what the microtransactions are. The issue is the principle of adding them post-launch after the reviews and positive word of mouth have made impact on sales. There's no denying that it is a clever move from a business perspective, but it is also shady.

Thankfully it is only cosmetic items, but the fact that they were deceptive is a problem. Also, it doesn't help when you have at least four $15 map packs on the way and absolutely no free DLC.

Cod has been including MT's since Blops 2. It was a surprise to nobody that "Black Market" would be MT related.

Also just a heads up for people, 100% of the proceeds of the Code Warriors pack goes towards helping veterans find jobs and when returning from duty. Not all microtransactions come from Satan.

Just something to think about before shit posting with garbage Mona Lisa modern DLC pictures.

Activision and CoD have been trying to help the veterans for a long time. Microtransaction like these can have some good, people!
