They find new deep sea creatures like, every month.

And yet, no giant "The Beast"-like squid. Where are my squid, goddamit?

The return trip to the surface usually kills them, if they surive that they don't live long topside.

There are ways to keep deep sea creatures alive when bringing them up and putting them in pressurized tank, I'm just surprised they don't have any live one. It seems they didn't even try because they hauled like 80,000 specimens.

Well, it's comforting to know that we've already set on extinguishing the species' that we haven't even named yet.

Seriously, stuff like this puts me in awe. So otherworldly.

They're dead because the rules for registering a new species say that you have to kill one (as a sample I suppose). Not certain of the reasons, but I think it has something to do with examining them.

That wouldn't surprise me. Besides, what's the point of keeping one specimen alive outside it's natural environment? There's nothing dependable to learn about it's behavior, and it's going to be dissecting at some point so why not do it sooner while it's still fresh and can be preserved. And killing one isn't going to eliminate a species. The problem will come about when it's discovered what a great sushi roll they make or their skin becomes a new fashion trend in New York and Paris.

If only Phil Hartman was among us today, the Simpsons creators would have a field day making Troy McClure jokes.

Damn, some of those look like the robo fish from MegaMan X2 or something.

Sea life always seems to be the most exotic...I can only imagine what possible alien sea creatures would look like(for instance, if there are any on Europa)

How can they even survive at such depth? I mean, how can these creatures counter the enormous amount of pressure from the water?

The catch is of course that when they're brought up to normal depth they explode.

They've adapted to it, just like every species adapted to their weather conditions etc... Genes evolve in able for the specie to survive, just like humans etc...
