I liked the song but I just can't stand how shitty the drums sound. It's not about Mangini's playing, it's about the sound. It sounds compressed and artificial. It's like everything is triggered and nothing has any subtlety at all, it's all mechanic.

Man, I'm very disappointed with the two released tracks. Dream Theater has a wildly inconsistent discography, and to me this new album is tracking for the lower-tier of their catalogue. A shame too, because their two most recent albums were some of the best work they've done in many years.

That being said, I'm still looking forward to listening to the songs in context of the whole album

I do like some of DTs songs, but so many of them just sound so incredibly precise and over processed. Perfect guitar solos that quickly move up and down the scales, but without any passion. It's impressive, but it doesn't render an emotional response.

didn't even realize another album was coming out already. I still haven't listened to the previous one, something about it threw me off, plus the whole thing with portnoy just made me stay away. I keep hearing its good though, and I loved all the ones before it. (SFAM still being my favorite). It feels rather odd for them to be releasing a self titled album when portnoy is still gone.. though who knows if he ever would return, if he DID return that sounds like the best opportunity to do a self titled.
