I need some text with that. Not a bad score at all, but I thought it would score gold for sure. I'm not worried about the game, just curious about the reasons for the 8.0.

OPMs main complaint was "a little too old school", which I'm pretty sure would be a huge pro for any true DQ fan. I suspect it'll follow the same road in EGM. Oldschool, level grindin' RPGs are not for everyone. Not that 8.0 is a bad score or anything, just that I bet that the "hardcoreness" will leak into the complaining. If not I'd be curious to read the text myself.

i didn't think lament was all that bad, but it wasn't up to castlevania standards either. since lament, ninja gaiden and dmc3 have really raised the ceiling for that genre...if curse of darkness is scoring similarly, maybe it's a better game? maybe i should just read the new egm.

Well i've never played the originals in the nes, the closed i've got to it was Super Castlevania 4 which i loved, but for some reason many pple didnt like it. Still i which Iga would do a real action castlevania instead of the metroid type ones for a change......but really lament was really bad, at the beginning it was actually looking fun, that is when i entered the damn castle, same room after same room, it was a borefest really and the whip mechanic was ridiculous.......just stay away from it.....2d seems to be the only way and if they can make a real action Castlevania that would be even better.

I think RE4 didn't get GotM because of some policy they have about ports now. Back when Tony Hawk was huge, it kept snapping up GotM awards because they kept releasing the different ports at different times.

Pretty sure that's where it came from.
