New EGM scores?

Did you know they've done this for NINTENDO GAMES too (where something else scores higher, but the Nintendo game receives GotM)?!

Yeah, but this time it's a PSP game. That makes a world of difference to some. :)

What's the point in bringing in Nintendo games? Resident Evil 4 isn't a Nintendo game.

It's a language they might understand (and is true).

I wasn't implying that RE4 was a Nintendo game either, by the way...

I cannot recall anytime that this has happened. Mind digging up some proof? It's always been the highest scored title ends up GOTM, as long as I can remember.

Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck. There has to be an archive out there somewhere...
 
One thing I quite like about EGM is how well they utilize the entirety of their ratings scale (though I still believe they should give out platinums a tad more often; holding it back as much as they do artificially inflates it's significance to a level that IMO doesn't exist in gaming), however I really think they should add a bronze award to games that average 7.0 or higher.

It would help give more legitimacy, weight and respect to a title that scores in that range, which considering EGM heavily, heavily relies on their scores versus their written reviews, would be quite helpful in my opinion.

IIRC, the same thing happened in the edition castlevania: DoS was reviewed, it scored higher than some other game but it didn't get the GotM award

the person writing those scores made a typo, castlevania did get GotM

I don't have the exact issue in front of me, and I can't be bothered to dig it up. However, something similar to this did happen with one of the Tony Hawk games on the Dreamcast. THPS got the same or higher scores than another game, but because it was a port of a game that had already been awarded game of the month earlier (for the PS1 version), it was taken out of the running and GotM was awarded to whatever the other game happened to be.

Dude's right. This has happened before.

at least the first next-gen gta will still have some influence, after that, I donb't think it will anymore, same with fps's, after Halo 3 and Killzone (2?), I don't think they'll be as important as they were this gen, I wonder what genre will rule then
 
I kind of agree with them. You can't give the same game GOTM twice, just because it's on a different platform.

It's the same reason they started disqualifying whichever game wins their Game of the Year award from any other awards in that issue. It just got too boring seeing the same game win for graphics, sound, best genre title, and so on.
 
Suck Calibur III is too high and Romancing Saga is too low. Interesting that EGM seems to dig CoD though...maybe it's worth checking out?

I don't recall any instances of this happening either.
I think I remember somethign about the same game not getting GOTM twice, but I've never seen a game without the highest score get GOTM in EGM.

GTA:SA on Xbox got GOTM only a few months ago. Hmmz...
 
DQ8 too low and LCS too high... I haven't played LCS yet but my brother got it for some reason, so I might try it just to hear the Indian music station - I love how the game is supposed to be based on an American city but you'd never hear an Indian music station or a D&B station or even a strictly House station *ANYWHERE* in America. But I digress - I think that a lot of the press really overhyped and overrated the PSP and then when it didn't live up to the massive expectations they had for it, they felt like jackasses, so they have to hype up the first "big" release since Lumines, regardless of its apparent flaws (I'm an oldskool gamer, so shitty controls instantly means an unenjoyable game for me. Yes I HATED the old RE games)

Seriously, this is why you cant go with the scores from EGM. The best way to determine how good a game is, is to read the reviews from the 3 seperate reviews themselves, and NOT look at the score. I mean, seriously, how can two reviewers give a game low scores (one VERY low) and then another one give it a score thats 1 point away from a perfect score.

As for Gunstar, its up there because it deserves at least 3 scores above 8.

What a confusing months for scores. I know it's 3 different opinions but it's damn retarded assmonkey that a game can be below mediocre asscrap 4.5 to excellent kickass 9. That doesn't help!!!

Yeah, give us some damned proof. Im y 15 years of reading EGM, I dont recal this happening. Especially anytime recently.

GTA:LCS did get GotM over RE4 PS2 because (as people guessed) RE4 is a port. It's all explained in the issue itself.

And yeah, no 360 reviews in the new issue. The next one will have third-party stuff, but we're -still- waiting for the first party games....

edit: oh yeah, and Guitar Hero fuckin' RAWKS

the producer hinted it would be getting nice scores, but he couldnt talk about exactly what they were

Well, some of us just got semi-owned. That said, to the best of my knowledge, this is unprecedented.

But haven't a couple of the Mario Advance games gotten GotM? Maybe that's different because the original releases were so much earlier.
