New GC Fire Emblem pics and info!!(in japanese)

The game seems to looks alot better than previous screens, though the scan quality is pretty bad.

Regardless, this is the only reason to own a GameCube next year.

I'm just about as big a fan as you are of Biohazard, but it's also coming out on PS2.

FE GC, however, is not. :P

Also, regarding the shapeshifting abilities: it isn't exactly new in Fire Emblem. Chiki is a Dragon child from the first Fire Emblem games and she can turn into a Dragon during battle.

I just KNEW you were gonna play that card. :D

Who cares, Zelda counts too. :P

Oh and don't forget the game looks absolutely bland artistically compared to Wind Waker.

Of course, I loved Wind Waker when it was originally revealed, whereas it was universally reviled by the rest of the gaming community. It only makes sense that I'm less than thrilled with this new one's direction.

using the whole *insert game* is the only reason to own a console doesn't work, opinion differs. 2005 looks to me to be the most promising year for the gamecube.

Not that I doubt you, but the whole shape shifting in Fire Emblem thing will be new to ME once this one hits the States.

I'd love nothing more than to play the classic FEs, but unless Nintendo does something about it, it's just not likely to happen. :(

The people who wait a year were never going to buy it on GC or a GC anyway.

To be fair, dismounting Cavaliers/SocialKnights would be new to you too. :P After all, there's only been ONE english Fire Emblem game. Thankfully it appears NOA is finally rectifying that little oversight. Unfortunately we won't get Roy's game anytime soon which is really too bad, considering that "Fire Emblem" is a direct prequel to it.

I just wish that remake rumour from GBA launch had come through. Sigh.

Yeah, I'm aware of the ties between FE6 and FE7, and am quite pissed that they're skipping FE6 (which in many ways would have been a more appropriate FE2 USA). Still, they're giving us 2 more FEs, which is already 3 more than I ever expected to get.

I've played FE1 and FE2 on the NES briefly, and FE3, 4, and 5 on the SNES for an ever briefer time. Pity we never got really decent english ROM patches, at least.

Looks nice.....it looks a lot better than it use to. I am happy now that I am getting a Gamecube instead of moving up to next Generation. Someone need to post the scans. :)

Hmmm, I need to still beat FE on the GBA. :-\ I'm only a few missions away, but I'm on one of those alternate missions that can sometimes be tricky. At least my rating is still good except for funds (i.e. no one's died yet in my saved game, but of course several have died more times than I remember and then I start the mission all over again ;-)). :-p Oh well, hopefully I'll finish it before the GC one hits N. America. (BTW, I wish they had some sort of synopsis in the game a la ToS. Sometimes I forget some of the plot details and character interactions :-p)

This will be great, it is the only reason to own a GC

Wait: Resident Evil

Wait: Zelda

Star Fox

Geist

Advance Wars

Jungle Beat

That's all

Wait

Killer 7

You really didn't need this on your list.

That one girl from FE1USA turns into a dragon and then Eliwood kills her.

Yes, but that was a cutscene. Changing shapes and having it affect actual in-game combat and/or character development is what I hope will be possible in this GCN incarnation of FE.

i hope the gcn cutscenes are beefed up. like they should have the characters show different expressions more often in the conversations and not just scarcely. and i dun mean just change their eye expressions only. keh.

btw, fire emblem had an amazing story, i usually start skipping text on a game when the plot is boring, but fire emlem's story was quite good, i was really looking forward to crushing nergal. and the support cons are totally hilarious.

Thank you En-ou/Neo!

I just got Fire Emblem for GBA the other week and I am absolutely loving it. It's my first FE game and I'm really digging the series. Can't wait for this game.

These scans don't look very good.

I'm a huge fan of Fire Emblem, but the graphics shown here are average at best.

Damnit, man. This is exactly what olimario wants you guys to do.

Or, maybe he's just fucking crazy.

Why not both.

Actually, it's not far from the truth. :) The goodness of Fire Emblem is in the gameplay, not the graphics, and none of the screens of the GC version have looked at all dazzling from a graphical perspective. None of which actually matters - going to be buying this one anyway.

jpn release date = apr 20, 2005
i think they have lots of time of make it look better. but i'm not intersted in the gfx that much. i just want the battle cutscenes to be very nice

Sure, but your post was still inspired by bitterness. :P

Fire Emblem Thracia 776 (1999) had some of the best graphics on the SNES. So did Seisen no Kiefu (1996). And the GBA Fire Emblem games all had pretty decent graphics for GBA games.

While the GC game's on-screen maps don't seem very impressive, that's simply such an unimportant detail that it's not even worth mentioning. What is worth mentiong is the crispness of the character portraits during cut-scenes, the FMV, the status menus, etc., all of these look gorgeous and definately offset any flaws in the maps (and considering the unit-based nature of the gameplay, the map graphics are definately the least noticeable).

Hopefully the cut scenes will be upgraded past the Sealab quality of GBA game.

That's not going to change. The way cut-scenes are presented are part of Fire Emblem tradition. :P

I'm definitely more interested in this now than back at E3. Mostly because I decided to start a new game of FE to play on my DS... and I was instantly hooked again. I'm still wondering why the hell NOA won't bother to pick up the slack on this. FE2 should really be FE6 or proclaimed as some kind of side story. The we could get the new GBA game, and then the GC one. But regardless I think NOA is going to leave FE6 in the dust. The one I feel should have made it over here completely. Roy is a pretty popular character choice in SSBM, and it's sad that NOA might let that go to waste here.

Anywho, for some reason I'm liking how this look now, as opposed to when we first saw the game around E3. Certainly needs some kind of polish, but it's definitely getting there. Now if we can just get a DS announcement soon, I'll be swimming in my head.

Finally 2005 will be the year i finally dust off the lint on my gamecube. Having never played fire emblem, what type of rpg is it?

Do you have a GBA or GBA Player? Get Fire Emblem for the GBA, if you can, and imagine that but with a console design. *drool*

I pretty much agree with Pelham. FE was always pretty minimal as far as map graphics were concerned. FE on the GCN might still impress where it counts. It won't be the most beautiful thing we've ever seen, but I'm sure there will be enough eye candy to appreciate. Hell, the GBA game has pretty fantastic animation, through and through.

hai, pent's critical alone is worth the game price hehehe

I put about 10 hours into FE today, the game is huge, even by console standards.

The battle animations are indeed really nice, Dare I dream of high res goodness on Gamecube...
