New GR3 Screens

"You should use the GR1 shots I chose. They are a better match with the GR3's urban setting."

Oh I don't think it's necessary anybody that isn't blind can tell from what we posted there's a pretty significant difference, even HUGE, if I may say so.

"apparantly the 360 does not support Calf rendering :("

Look closer. I think it's there. You can actually make out the outline of his boot in the little transparent HUD. And it can't be his other leg, because the knee for the other leg is pointing straight forward, and that would be even more weird for a leg to do that.

That looks like a nice jump to me.

Why are we comparing it to GR1? When I was impressed by Rogue Leader's leap I was impressed with its leap over Conker, not Starfox 64.

Ghost Recon was never Ubis most impressive title... In fact, compared to SC and R6, it looked like shit. It seems this gen they are giving it better treatment.
You should be comparing this to Splinter Cell if anything.

Do you sleep with covers over your head? Oxygen depredation is a serious condition.

I don't understand why you can't understand where I'm coming from. With the GameCube and the XBOX, I was impressed by its jump from the best the n64 and ps had to offer.

Comparing GR3 (a now ubi priority game) to the very old GR1 (ubi's shit) does absolutely nothing for me.

Ok How about Ghost Recon 2 Olimario? The latest GR on Xbox. Came out this past fall.

Hmmmm....still looks like a shitload of difference to me.....

Uhm...no. It's GR on one generation....vs GR on another generation....how can you get a better comparison? Unless you just want to prove your obviously FLAWED view.

Splinter Cell Xbox should be compared to Splinter Cell 360 considering there's a huge difference in the environements, action, and number of players between SC and GR. Logic just seems to fail you kid.

Flawed? Hardly.
If Ubi didn't put resources into the title this gen and they are next gen, then they aren't comparable. We need to compare a high budget Ubi title from this gen.

It's like if Nintendo gave Animal Crossing a Zelda-like budget next generation and we compared it to the N64ish visuals of this gen.

That's because the N64 and PS were completely incapable.

Because where you are coming from, is a scary scary place.

BTW, between GC/XBox and N64/PS, some of us enjoyed DC and PS2.

Comparing GR3 (a now ubi priority game) to the very old GR1 (ubi's shit) does absolutely nothing for me.

GR3 is a current ubisoft PC effort in process of porting to the console with the best capabilities to do it justice, X360. GR1 was also at the time their curent PC effort, ported to the console that could do it most justice, XBox.

This is where sane and smart people would approach the comparasin from. But we wouldn't ask that of you so you go on right ahead amusing us.

Okay...olimario...this is a roughly 10x leap in detail. It will not be the leap from the 32 bit era to this era, because we saw the advent of texture filtering (not counting N64, which had it's own share of problems).

This generation really doesn't have any glaring flaws that make it look ugly. Run a good looking PSX game through an emulator and smooth out the textures and bump up the resolution to 640x480. Compare what you then see to the current generation. That is a generational leap, without the blinding flaws of last generation. The leap in detail here is quite similar.

Games this coming generation are NOT going to look like the CG movies that are being released right now. It's...simply put...NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. This...what you are looking at...is a generational leap. I know you wanted million polygon characters with everything having a billion pixel shaders and making FFX cg look like crap in comparison...but it's simply not going to happen. It's not as if we're transitioning to some hardware of the future...these games do, in fact, have to run on hardware that exists today.

This is your generational leap...take it or leave it.

That's a dumb quote. At the time both machines launched they were very impressive for it's time. (that means capable)

It may have been their current PC effort, but it was by no means impressive compared to their high priority stuff.

I'm not talking about when they launched, I'm talking about compared to the Gamecube and Xbox.

Olimario with every post on every single 360 thread you just keep showing your face more and more my man. Are you ever going to give up? Most people are not going to agree with you because you have a really twisted view. You ALONE manage to derail every 360 pictures thread into this same old argument. And I know I am not alone when I say you're really getting annoying. We could be having better conversations than this.

And here's a hint....none of these 360 games that you're seeing here are going to see a huge jump before launch and now...so if you're not impressed now quit coming into these threads every time new pictures are posted and pretending that you want to be impressed but you are not. Because you never will. So it's pointless....you're always going to think what you think and we're tired of hearing it every bleeping time. I swear you're like a broken record.

Exactly, please go back to playing those impressive ps2 and cube games. No one cares that you're not impressed anymore.

You should be comparing this to Splinter Cell if anything.

Now, how do you know GR3 is already one of the most impressive Ubisoft next-gen titles? Do you think they are already masters of gaming parallel processing? You think they already master the Xenos? How do you know that Splinter Cell 360 won't be much better than GR3? You have to consider that Splinter Cell is a very different kind of game than Ghost Recon: you are almost all the time surrounded by walls and in small environments and you see Sam and some one or two other characters on screen, while Ghost Recon focuses on showing much wider environments and greater battles with all the consequences this bears.

However. You want to compare with Splinter Cell, ok.

So, not a huge leap at all, reeeeeally :lol

That's some nasty ground textures.

and yet, it looks fine in the other shot where the point of view isnt a few inches off the ground.

Just got confirmation by the one who did this news that these are shots from the PC version. The Xbox 360 one will have a few more details and the filter we saw at E3 will still be there.
I'll update the news on Xboxyde right away.

If it wasn't for that lighting effect, it wouldn't that impressive.

What's even worse is that, that ligting effect is nothing more than bloom used since Sands of Time.

I wonder if the maps will be as huge as those from BF2, probably not.

for single player, i believe its one huge city... multiplayer, i doubt it would be anywhere near the size of bf2. there are no vehicles, so maps that size would be stupid.

Hey op_ivy where did you get those 2 "new" screens from?
They have this nice grainy filter.

NM I'm blind.

Damn there is a pretty big difference between xbox 360 and pc version. Is the only difference really that softer looking filter? It seems to be more than that judging by videos and photos.

"Just got confirmation by the one who did this news that these are shots from the PC version."

Do you people hear that? You can turn off the damage control mode now!

These particular shots do not look imrpessive at all IMO. If the PC version really wont look as good as the X360 version...Ill be disappointed.

And Speevy: If you're gonna compare GR2 shots, at least use shots of the Xbox or PC version.

I hate to stick up for him, but going with what he knew at the time, Olimario was spot on. There is nothing in the original screens posted that seems "next gen".

Why even bother commenting on the pictures when there's video that shows the game off so differently?

The game looks fantastic. 'Next gen' and all that. I suppose some people want to humble most anything shown since Nintendo is deliberately taking a modest approach.

Video? What video? Where where where!?!?

Maybe we are tired of you being not impressed.

There is an e3 video with an UBIsoft sergaent type guy demonstrating the game. It looks amazing. GR3 on Xbox 360 is truly a nextgen game IMO, atleast graphically. You should do a search for the video here on GAF as it was posted a couple weeks ago in one of the GR3 threads.

I don't know what people's definition of next gen is. Can a pc have "next gen" games? If not why not. PCs are constantly evolving and they eventually outstrip what consoles can do. Is UT2007 next gen? Its coming out for the pc along with next gen consoles so does that disqualify it as being next gen?

My comment was in response to somebody tired of hearing my opinion.
I want to add that I am impressed by some X360 titles like Gears of War and Call of Duty 2. Those show a lot of promise.
