This is a clip from the Naudet brother's documentary. He was filming inside one tower while the other collapsed. :((

The full video is very depressing. You see a lot of the firefighters in the lobby that started up the stairs that never made it out.

Longer section...

They were the only ones to film the first plane hit. The department was called out to investigate a gas smell and one of the brothers rode along and caught it on film.

Christ that rumbling sound gives me fucking chills.

I was in Fifth Grade in Seattle, so it was 5 AM local time when the first plane hit. From 6 to 7 AM before leaving for school, I was watching CNN with my parents and younger brother. At school everyone but one student in my class was aware of what had happened, the first few minutes he couldn't understand why everyone was so gloomy.

We spent the whole school day watching the news in the classroom, our teacher told us that this reminded her of when she was in primary school herself and her class was watching the Challenger take off live. 9/11 was horrifying because of the scale and because it made us (me at least) realize how twisted men can become, but Challenger must have been awful as well because it was supposed to be a "happy" event that became a disaster in front of millions live. Kind of like how for most people the second plane is the worst, because that one they saw live..

6th grade. Mrs. Lewis's English class. A girl I know had a dentist appointment so she came to class late, and on the way she heard about it on the radio. She told us in class that a plane hit a building in New York and that was all she knew. The school didn't bring it up, but you could tell the teachers knew something we did not. Crazy how easily I can recall all that information.

Those clips seem so familiar to the World Trade Center movie, were the people that movie was based on a part of that team?

I haven't seen the movie since it was in the theatres.

I'm not sure. These brothers were documenting the life of a new firefighter. The footage of them first responding to the hit with the tower getting closer and closer in the front window was pretty eye opening too.

this picture does such injustice. I saw this picture before I went to NYC, and while I thought it was interesting it looked like such tiny damage.. quite insignificant. Then I went to NYC and saw Ground Zero and the surrounding area.. the damage was immense.

Not when you realize that the picture is taken over a half of a mile in the air. That's a lot of damage shown from that height.

Just to clear things up, I posted the Tsunami because I'm sick and tired of Americans constantly bringing up 9/11. Yes it was horrific, yes there were lots of deaths and yes it was a great tragedy. But FFS it's been 9 years ago and still you can't fart in NY without someone yelling at you for being disrespectful towards the events of 9/11 it seems.

Fuck, it's been NINE YEARS. Victims of the Tsunami have picked up their daily lifes as much as they can pretty quickly afterwards, why can't the US? I didn't post the tsunami to make a dick-measuring-contest of who has the biggest tragedy, but to point out that the media hardly make any documentaries or reports on how victims of the tsunami are doing, and yet the US makes damn sure we never forget about 9/11.

Nine years. I think we've reached the point where we can safely say move the fuck on a long time ago, unless you have been personally involved in the tragedy (lost a friend/relative in the events).

The Tsunami was a natural disaster, 911 wasn't. Now I don't condone what the US has done post 9/11, but you can't compare those two point blank. Sheesh.

That's the point. New York covered completely in a cloud of destruction.

When I said "Can't even see anything" I wasn't complaining about the quality of the picture. I was thinking of the hundreds of people in that massive dust storm. I can't imagine being caught in that. What a horrible day.

It's like Jews in the holocaust.

We get it.
Apparently you don't.

These pictures still carry emotional resonance for a large number of people. If they don't for you, then you don't have to contribute to the thread.

That building at the bottom of the picture with the white bridge is my high school. I was a freshman in college at the time in New Orleans. Left there the year before Katrina too.

YouTube commenters are pretty much the bottom caste of internet society.

Ignore them.

i'm not trolling at all. in fact, i haven't commented on either of them yet just the audacity of people to compare 9/11 - holocaust - tsunami- etc as if there is a gain to choosing sides, so hop off my dick, bopper
