Relic- This map is more reminiscent of a Halo 1 single player map than anything else. It has a distinct Silent Cartographer feel. Much like Zanzibar, this map is set up perfectly for single flag CTF or other offense-defense based game-types. The map is set on an island with a medium-sized covenant structure (the relic) towering over vast, grassy plains. The offensive team begins on one far end of the oblong island. The starting point looks like a dropship point from H2 single player. Hills and a downed pelican give the offensive team enough cover to organize and launch an offensive strike without worry of being spawn-killed. It seemed to me that a warthog was also positioned here. To the right of the offensive spawn point lie a sniper rifle and a perfect shot into the defending teams base. The base, which appears to consist of two or three levels, has a wide open top level where the flag is placed. This makes it a pain to defend. In the basement there is a switch which players can use to open a portal between the offensive spawn point and the base, making it much easier to move quickly when rushing the flag. Practice your sniping skills because this level appears to be very open. We were all very impressed with this map
Terminal- This level is unlike anything you have ever seen. It appears to be set in an industrial train depot. Why a train depot you ask? The name Terminal should give it away. Two trams run parallel to each other down the middle of the map were speeding locomotives randomly tear through, killing anything in their path. Power ups are placed on platforms between the tracks. This ought to make for some interesting scenarios of suicidal master chiefs grabbing the overshield just in time to jump in front of an oncoming bullet train. I cant wait for all the crazy home made vids that come from that one.
It was hard to tell but the map seemed fairly large; large enough to fit a wraith tank inside at least. Multiple levels are everywhere, both indoors and out. There was so much going on in this level that it is hard to say for sure what we were seeing.
Gemini- This level takes place on High Charity and is possibly the most visually stunning of the four we saw. I dont think we saw the entire map either. From what we saw the map takes place both inside the structure of High Charity and in the domed middle area. The spawn point we saw was inside a room that lead to a garden area. A power-up sits like a jewel in the head-dress of a giant prophet statue that stands below a winding tree. In front of the statue is a door that leads out into the middle of High Charity were the Forerunner ship can be seen. All of the doors are like the Covenant doors in single player H2 and will open when you stand in close proximity. This is as far as we got, so I am unsure if there exists a symmetrical part of the map. It seems perfect for 4-8 players and slayer based gametypes. King and Territories would also be a likely option.
Elongation- This map is a no brainer. It is Longest redone with much more detail. It seems larger and more intricate. Moving walkways and boxes make this map more interesting. The only thing that make is reminiscent of longest is the two parallel walkways and multiple levels.
All of the maps we saw were breathtaking and I cant wait to finally get to play them in a short month or so. The fifth map, Backwater, was the one map we didnt get to see. None of us could make out what kind of map it was or read the map description long enough to even guess what it is like. So, dont ask any questions about that map because I know just as much as you do.
