Yeah nothing new, but the quality of the shots are so much better than anything we've seen yet. Damn this game looks really really nice, the color and detail is just slick.

Ganbarian. Whoever they are.

At first I thought it was HAL.

Interesting... I can't quite figure out how it works.

It's all Bandai characters, right? (Naruto, One Piece etc)
Then why are nintendo handling it, and who the hell are Ganbarian?

It does have a smash bros look to it- can't understand if it's Nintendo's "idea" why they didn't just make a new smash bros game??

Also, what's the "DS GC" bit at the bottom right- not coming to the cube as well, is it?

it's another anime based title Nintendo announced last month. Not related to this game. It's called Eye Shield 21.

BTW, Jump owns these anime properties.

I'm pretty sure Miyamoto is somehow involved with this. It might be a 2nd party relationship like Metroid Prime.

Yeah, but why? Why not a game with Nintendo characters instead.
This isn't going to be all that popular outside of japan, I wouldn't have thought...

With good marketing it could be HUGE. The DBZ games sell tons outside of Japan.

No, they are Shounen Jump characters. They are all owned by Shueisha, the publisher of the Shounen Jump magazine. Bandai simply publishes and produces many of the games. Naruto on GC for example was TOMY instead. Even in the case where Bandai owned the characters (in this case they do not) if they were working on a DS game crossover action game and Nintendo wants to aid in development, why would Bandai say no? They would still publish the game and they would have the experience of Nintendo's team as well as help in development.

True, but i couldn't see any Bandai involvement in this at all.

But as you say, the characters themselves aren't owned by Bandai, simply that are licenced to use them in their games.

I think it's an interesting move for Nintendo to make...

I'm pretty sure Miyamoto is somehow involved with this. It might be a 2nd party relationship like Metroid Prime.

He's involved in the sense that as executive producer, his name might be on it.

In other words, he filed some paperwork, or maybe talked to some producers over at Jump, but that's it. Gameplay involvement? Hahaha, look at Miyamoto's job description again. The guy doesn't work on games (except on RARE occassions, and those are mostly his pet projects, of which this is not).

This game looks sweet. I love the manga panels -- each with their distinct manga art style -- on the 2nd screen. Superficial and useless, perhaps, but still cool as hell. :) As even a casual fan of Jump manga, this has me salivating...

Isn't the screenshot on the second scan new?
Nope...though somehow I managed to miss Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Fuusen in that shot the first time around. :lol

I still say that Sanji best be in this game. He's gonna be my man if he is.

Well, it's not ENTIRELY useless. Don't you use the manga panels to summon things into battle?

Dragonball is gigantic all over the world. Following that up, One Piece and Naruto (in fact Naruto's asking price to be released here is astronomical) are very well known as well. Simply put, this shit would sell gigantic amounts of copies. Good chance it could hit US too since Shonen Jump is very popular here as well.

Apart from the fan-subbing community, Naruto is not known outside of Japan to the average person.

I thought I read that the bottom screen is used to call up different characters.

Correct. The manga panels are your character deck. You use it for swapping characters in and out of battle as well as using stocked items.

True, the animation has yet to be seen here, but when it is released, it'll hit big.

The bottom-left panel on the first page, the green box, says it's a "Nintendo-Shueisha Collaboration." So Nintendo has to be overseeing development somehow. And that was one of the earliest announcements, I thought.

I definitely see Rock Lee in one of those screens, too. :D

Naruto will be huge in the US, ive only recently started watching them, and i went through all 117 episodes in about a week.

Oh, and rock lee definiatly kicks arse. Cant wait for this game!

I have to disagree. More and more people I know are getting into Naruto by word of mouth. I think that there's major potential for a Naruto explosion in N.A.

OH NO! ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE!

i tried watching the first few episodes of naruto, a bunch of boy transforming into girl scenes and then I saw a boy on boy kissing scene

i decided naruto wasnt for me.

still want this game though

To be fair, Naruto gets a lot less silly real quick.

Wow that has nothing to do with Naruto overall. You may want to give it a fair shot.

It's worth noting that TOMY is actually a subsidiary of Bandai. So is Banpresto for that matter.

Banpresto is a subsidary of Bandai but operates independantly (Banpresto is huge and Bandai is even larger with their tentacles in tons of other companies) but I'm not aware that TOMY is a subsidary of Bandai, was this a recent buy over? Anyway the point was that the Jump characters are not owned by Bandai at all, so all this talk about Bandai is a little deceptive. :D

Do you normally stop watching shows or reading books when you don't like 1% of the total story as well?

yes, i would say after 6 episodes of a show or the first 100 pages of a book that I would stop reading or watching if I didn't like it.

I think it's completely fair. If i watch 2 episodes of a show and I don't think it has any redemning value for me, I stop. I don't understand why people keep watching series they dislike while complaining about them over and over hoping they "get better". Because a terrible start that goes nowhere = no sale. Simple as that. If I look at the back of a book cover at the blurb and I think it sounds like something I'm not interested in, I won't even start. There is too much other stuff out there to bother with things I don't think I'll like. He watched SEVERAL episodes, if he doesn't like where it's going, he's never going to like it. I'm in the "Naruto isn't that great in fact it's draggy and it's never ending" camp too. Stop forcing stuff on people. ^_^

Hrm, seems I'm wrong. TOMY's actually totally on their own with no relation to Bandai... though it seems they have various deals going with Nintendo (for Pokemon licensed toys, movie co-development and Nintendo distribution of TOMY's Naruto/ZOIDS games). I wonder if Nintendo's maybe eyeing TOMY for a buyout? They'd be much easier to swallow than Bandai.

True, the characters aren't Bandai's property. Though Ganbarion (who's making the game using HAL's engine) is a Bandai affiliated team iirc. :)

I won't be surprised, not sure how easy it would be for Nintendo doing a buyout but TOMY is big on toys and stuff besides videogames too so it's something Nintendo might be interested in for the kid's market if they decide to go that direction all the way.

Do we actually know what Ganbarion and Nintendo's relation to this project really is? As far as I know they're both listed as developers but we still have no idea what's up with the staff on this game. I hate vague information like that, I guess in this case they want the game to sell on the characters' popularity instead of staff profile. :(

Well, Nintendo's looking for diversification chiefly... that's why they invested in Bandai (rather than Capcom) and are looking into film production. Toys would make a good "out" for Nintendo if they're ever forced out of gaming hardware.... they were pretty toy heavy in the 1970s & 1980s after all. I think Nintendo would actually prefer to be more like Bandai than simply a videogame company.

Not specifically, but I'm guessing Ganbarion's actually developing the game under Nintendo SPD supervision (like Eighting with the Kururin games or Camelot's Golden Sun and Mario Sports stuff).

Bitwise, seriously watch the episodes after that..Its a totally different show. Its like reading the first sentense and deciding you hate the book. BTW its not a gay show :lol

Back to the game:

I really want to see this sucker in motion. I want to see capcom/snk level of animation!
