New Killzone: Shadow Fall gameplay

Killzone has bot support so they'll always be good in my book. Same with Gears on the 360.

If I was Sony I'd try to propel Killzone Shadow Fall to new heights by making any multiplayer DLC free (ie. covered in the cost of PSN+). Especially considering there aren't any real big titles to put into the instant game library.

yea, i highly doubt that. Especially after the rumors and photos that showed that the "target" pcs had a gtx 7xx gpu in it. Lol at the notion that it was demoed on xbox 1.

here is the thing though. BF4 SP @ MS conference was just a video running, so it does not matter if PC's had gtx 7xxx gpu in it at E3.

Last I checked there was NO SP in MS conference and what was shown off was the 64 player MP on PC supposedly spec'd like Xbone.

Meanwhile BF4 at 60FPS (sorry, I'm not trying to hate on SF, still looking forward to its MP portion)

Do you think this is an accurate summary of what PS4 will look like? I've never really had the question answered...

This is kinda off topic, but isn't one of the biggest advantages of going with custom hardware like Cell is to offer technical advantages to the first party? That is why Sony games tend to stand out on the PS3. This advantage is gone with PS4 unless there is some secret sauce no?

The reason why games stood out isn't necessarily due to the specialized hardware on the PS3. It's because of the quality of the studios and the time they had to put into the art direction/gameplay mechanics of their game. If anything, the PS4 will have much more stand out titles both graphically and gameplay wise than their competition by miles.

But Mark Cerny spoke of Cell as a puzzle that if solved will produce phenomenal results. ICE team worked on solving the Cell puzzle and distributed technology to the first party. First party essentially got a year head start on Cell.

They also don't have to split their attention between platforms. Plus they have access to any technology discovered by any of the Sony studios and the ICE team. I think they will have a big edge for sure, just maybe not at the initial launch.

I think Sony should give Guerrilla one more chance with Shadow Fall. Trust be told, they were a mediocre developer in the beginning and I don't understand why Sony bought them in the first place. Killzone 1 sucked hard and it was being hyped as a HALO KILLER! They also made a third person action game about the Vietnam war and it sucked even more than Killzone I.

Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 were ok games, nothing amazing. I liked the first level they showed for Shadow Fall, but this level looks like complete ass. I don't know why they decided to put a forest in the middle of a futuristic city, makes no fucking sense.

yea one more fucking chance!

Yeah, they weren't the best when they were starting out but Sony obviously saw something in the team if they purchased them. Sony never really hyped up Killzone as the "Halo Killer." If I recall, that essentially stemmed from the press because it drew readers and page views, especially because it was a PlayStation exclusive FPS. They ended up making a critically acclaimed entry into the same Killzone franchise that everyone deemed terrible once they were purchased by Sony and definitely showed the team was capable of making something very, very good. Killzone 3 was well received as well. You may have not liked them, but many others, including press, did. Guerrilla now is not the Guerrilla of old.

I am not sure what is so nonsensical about having a forest in a futuristic city. It kind of plays to the strengths of it being a futuristic city. Even then, look at places like Central Park, Wascana Centre, Stanley Park... urban parks that are often right in the center (or border) of cities which often resemble forests and beautiful natural growth in spring / summer weather. Certainly doesn't seem nonsensical to me. It adds a neat sense of contrast. In relations to Killzone, they are on Vekta which was established in the first Killzone has a lush, rich agrarian, Earth-like planet so the idea that they possibly built a city around a forest doesn't seem so silly to me. I like the idea because it at least presents Vekta as a unique world and one with a lot of life and diversity instead of something strictly industrial.

quality of the footage is still naff. Truth be told I prefered the city scape level. That looked better visually to me than any other fps shown including BF4.

Holy crap, is BF4 really going to look that good on PS4/XB1?

Anyway, graphically there's little impressive about this KZ demo. Gameplay wise, though, it looks like it could be fun. Nice open environment, different ways to get around. Shooters aren't really my thing but I could see myself making an exception for this one. And I'm sure the graphics will get pumped up before release. The demo at the unveiling is still really impressive.

Why is disparity between first and third party a good thing? If I could have gotten third party games to look as good as the TLOU, Killzone, or God of War than that is only a good thing.

Guerilla is a fine developer.

Killzone 1 was weak because the PS2 hardware couldn't support a AAA FPS.

Killzone 2 knocked it out of the park. KZ3 wasn't as good, because they moved away from the focus on thrilling level design that made KZ2 so great.

IF Guerilla can recapture the magic of KZ2 with this deal, then it will be awesome.

Nah that's what it can look like with a good PC. From what I understand EA haven't even confirmed that it's running at 1080p on consoles.

I love how the thread got derailed by a farce of a post. Also, can people kindly stop quoting the entire gif set?

On paper this is absolutely correct, mentally the inner fanboy of (insert system) wants your favorite developers to show they're programming muscle. As a pc gamer this is a non-issue, but the console side of me realizes it.

Edit: Ex-pc gamer. My machine is looking pretty long in the tooth these days.

To distinguish themselves from Xbox. I always think that first party should always be a head of third party tech wise.

But if third party can have an easier time matching up to first party I don't see why that's a bad thing. It's not as if first party aren't going to be able to push the ps4 just like they did with ps3, on account of it being standard architecture. Besides, first party will still have the advantage over third party by being able to exclusively make games for the most powerful hardware, but if third party can shorten the gap more than they were able to with ps3 than that's great. I don't want a ps3 situation where only a handful of games actually showcase the power of the system.

Guerilla's whole reputation is based on them being a technically excellent studio though. No doubt this E3 footage is still Alpha build but if the final game looks like this, how can they justify being such an expensive 1st party? The can't write a story, they struggle to create decent characters & their output has been pretty generic so far.

At the very least they need to be putting out the best looking games on the system, not being shown up by 3rd parties.

Dick-waving aside, holy shit that looks awesome.

Holy shit that's not running on PS4/Xbone (save the first screen which apparently is running on PC which is spec'd like xbone).

Also, if you can kindly stop quoting entire set of gifs. Chrome chugs to a very annoying degree. Thanks.

Probably inconvenient, but I just disable images in the options and open on new tab anything I wish to view.

Battlefield 3 was developed on HIGH end PC's (crossfired 7990s at 3k resolution). Until you see the game running on a console, in your home; I wouldn't judge what the practical limits of the developer are.

The other issue is how Sony's first teams are having to start from scratch. They had a foundation in Cell, which has no been revoked completely. Old engines are going to have to be modified and inefficiencies will be inherent. It'll take time; but things will smooth over as time moves forward.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Killzone 2 and 3 were great games.

No, the reason you saw a difference is because those games are specifically optimized for the PS3. Exclusives on any consoles tend to look better for that exact reason. There's no FPS on the 360 that looks as good as HALO 4 for example even though it's a platform that's easy to develop for.

Really fascinating stuff actually. So did DF re-catch this on Shadows Fall? I would imagine most of that to be altered due to the architecture.
I believe they mentioned it for SF. You will have to pardon me as I'm on my phone currently but will look for the article later to be 100% certain.

Even at its worst it looks better than KZ2/3:

So I have no doubt GG will come through in the end, albeit their strength lies in creating urban (including dilapidated) cityscape.

Damn, KZ3 looks so much better in that pic. It looks like artwork. And I thought KZ3 looked worse than KZ2.

I think Killzone SF graphically looks pretty fuckin incredible though, and if a third party can make a game that looks as good as a first party game I think that's awesome.

Give me a break. Those gifs are running on PC. Backspace key top right, R for reload bottom right. Just because the game looks amazing on PC doesn't mean the nextgen consoles can run it at that quality. I'll wait till i see it running on an actual console.

And we must wait, 60fps but until today nothing confirmed about 1080p.

If it was 1080p on consoles then I have no doubt EA would've said that it was. The fact they made a big deal out of the 60fps makes me think it'll be 720p or somewhere between it and 1080p. Their silence on the matter tells a lot. In the same way lots of games were sub-HD last gen, I think we'll have more sub-full HD game's for the ones that are really pushing it graphically.

Those battlefield GIFS do nothing for me.

Killzone:SF looks much more impressive from the PS4 reveal/city footage, easily.

Yeah that reveal footage of K: SF is just about the most impressive thing I have seen for any fps so far. The scale does it initially. And then when you get close the weapon and enemy detail and textures are unmatched. I mean seriously that stands above anything so far bar Capcom's Deep Down but that was closer to a tech demo than a playable demo.

Granted the enemy models don't look quite as impressive here for some reason.

The irony of this all is that BF4 looks good but is like an enhanced BF3 build for modern systems but expanding the FB engines breadth.

I think if some of you experienced BF3 maxed on PC then you would be more impressed with KZS.

And we must wait, 60fps but until today nothing confirmed about 1080p.

Only thing we know one way or another is that Chinese forum rumour (which as been 100% correct so far) saying BF4 is 720p on next gen which would be a heck of a bag of shit. DICE's silence isnt helping. I hope its substantially higher then 720p. Doesn't have to be 1080p. I would settle for 900x1600.
