Level 5's Next RPG Confirmed to be PS2 Title
02.12.05 - 10:40 PM

In an exclusive interview granted to RPGFan, Level 5 president Akihiro Hino has confirmed that the "Next RPG" which has been revealed via a teaser site on the company's website last year will be its third PlayStation 2 project.

Hino also mentioned that Level 5 plans to release first details regarding this new PlayStation 2 title as well as the original PlayStation Portable RPG in the near future.

Look forward to an entire feature of exclusive interviews with Akihiro Hino, Shadow Hearts program director Hamamoto and Nippon Ichi Software president Kouichi Kitazumi to commence soon, only here on RPGFan.

It was never revealed what the teaser ad was for before I think. Sure it was likely that it was a PS2 game, but since Level 5 also confirmed a PSP game, the teaser could have been for that unannounced PSP project. Now it seems that the PSP game is something else and another PS2 game is confirmed and the ad was made for that PS2 game.

1. They make good RPGs
2. Im looking forward to seeing the game they are working on for the PSP, I hope its a DC2 type of game.

No you don't get it

the joke was that soul4ger thinks they make shite RPGs so his what was an attempt to rile up other quality posts such as his and potentially derail this thread into a DC1/2 hate thread. The unintended humor is that he is one of the first people to reply to this topic showing that he has at least some interest in Level 5 games but by the looks of his post its more of an attention whore hey look i'm a psuedotroll type of thing

personally, I'm looking forward to their future projects though I would have preferred to have DC3 exclusive on the PS3...the fact that it's an original game is good in itself, but if it where a DC game it would ENSURE that the game would last

OMG YOU GOT ME AHAHHAHAA.

Actually, my point was that he said they make the "best RPGs," when I think the consensus is THEY'VE MADE TWO, and the first one is considered mediocre at best. BUT THANKS FOR PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH I APPRECIATE YOUR VOCAL SKILLS.

Cool. Hopefully Sony has them readying Dark Cloud 3 for PS3's launch as well. Sony should really be pursuing buying a significant interest in Level 5 and making them a 1st party.

That's impressive that a fansite could get those interviews lined up -- as for the news, that's great, I absolutely loved Dark Cloud 2 and can't wait for their next titles (DQ8, this).

Well, since many of us have played DQVIII, that would be 3 ;)

I imagine their "next RPG" promo is probably for Dark Cloud 3 on PS2. SCEI's already linked with the project and SCEA already let slip that DC3 was PS2 bound... just makes sense.

Also, I think their PSP game might be SCEI's untitled MMORPG they announced. Maybe based off the canned TFLO project somehow (unless that's secretly moved to Xenon).

DQ8 is hardly their title, no?

they are the developer...

I thought they were just the graphics engine.
That's pretty depressing if they're anymore involved than that.

?

Please make sense, from all accounts DQVIII is a great game.

I don't know much about DQVIII. I've strayed from its threads and info concerning it since about summer 2003, but the Dark Cloud series is trash.
I, prior to now, believed Level 5 was only doing the graphics engine of DQVIII. If they've done the whole thing, and actually made a good game, good for them. DC and its sequel still suck.

Dark Cloud 2 is, IMO, one of the 3 best games this generation. To call it trash is ridiculous. Maybe you don't like the randomized dungeons. I'll admit that that was it's weakes aspect, but the overall quality of the game more than makes up for it. The graphics, the upgrade system, the invention system, the georama, etc.

I personally don't care for a number of "so called great" games this generation, but I'm aware of the fact that it's merely my opinion and not some great fact of the universe.

You must realize I'm the guy who loathes BoF: DQ, so take my opinions with a bag of salt.
Anyway, obviously the randomized and far too many dungeons didn't bother you as much as it did me. Coupled with a control scheme that annoyed me, I just wasn't pleased.

No. I'm with you on that one. I wasted $5 from Circuit City on this one thanks to this forum.

Aren't you the guy who likes Final Fantasy X2? :lol

And Xenosaga and Unlimited SaGa. (Just need SaGa and SaGa 3 to own them all :lol)

Ah, but I have fun. :D

I agree, but Level 5 please.... stop with random dungeons!! I haven't bought DC2 for this reason,I hate them, they're so boring and repetitive.
Level 5 are really talented but they should make a GDR with perfectly characterized and unique locations as in Square games.

I did not consider Dragon Quest VIII to be their game. I figured you have to create the scenario and gameplay systems to do that, and they just built the engine for it. Regardless, we're still talking about three games, and one of them is considered average at best. DC2 is great, and I do like it, and I do have interest in new Level 5 games. But that person saying they make the best RPGs is ridickerous, and that guy accusing me of being a pseudo-troll, while right, is doing it in the wrong thread.

Maybe the parts where you're inventing shit makes it good in that respect, but everything else ain't too hot. There are better dungeon crawlers than this (and no list will be provided in order to pre-empt whining)

I actually liked the random dungeons just fine, and I usually hated random dungeons in all previous games. But they got it almost right.

I'm sure as time progresses the industry will make randomized levels even better. As a programmer this is one area that really interests me.

And yeah, DC2 one of the top 5 games this generation for me as well.
