New Marathon Leaks from Playtest 3...

Found another, looks fine in some videos, maybe it's the contrast or graphic setting differences between players, certainly didn't look as washed out as some of the earlier videos from what I got to see

Those videos are hdr captures but the youtube video is in sdr. Thats why it looks washed out and bad. Game looks like the video you linked

hmmmm
It seems in the future all buildings are painted neon green or purple. I get that aesthetic for the characters as they're empty plastic shells, but that whole thing looks like they overdid it. It's adding color for color sake.

It will only be Bungie's gunplay that might save this game.

Not gonna lie game was boring when i played Playtest 1, items were hard to see on the menu's which took enjoyment out of it
Didn't play that test and i think that was a common complaint.

The last test was very enjoyable. Had no issues with the menu's.

I was amazed at how intensely uninteresting the previous iterations looked. Granted, I never tried it but judging by videos I probably never would have.

Good to see that they are changing things, will be keeping an eye on this..

I think it looks really interesting, I'm into the art direction and overall aesthetic. I just wonder how the gameplay will fare. I've had my fair share of TF2, PUBG, Overwatch, Battlefield and Apex. I'm leaning more towards PvE and casual coop these days.

The characters are atrocious looking, that alone would kill this game, but the rainbow vomit future won't help either. I don't get anything about this game, it looks like what Destiny would look like if you let the Resetera mods design it.

To the people who think Marathon will find an audience, I wonder what game you think people will leave to come play it. Anyone who would invest the kind of time required to make Marathon profitable is surely already playing a live service game. I don't think anything here is provocative enough to mint new fans to the genre.

So, we have some options. Who do you think will lose players to populate Marathon? I don't see it doing anything better than the heavy hitters. ARC Raiders could be the straw that broke Bungie's back.

Any player who is competitive in nature and wants higher stakes in their games.

So they'll pull players from titles like Warzone, Valorant, and PUBG.

Ah, I hadn't seen many predictions of Marathon lighting the competitive scene on fire. Not how I typically see the PUBG crowd, but Valorant and WZ for sure. It'll be interesting to see how much the social component prevents them from changing. Last we heard Marathon will mostly be silent in terms of player interaction.

It's nuts how I can instantly recognise Destiny and Halo in just the weapon model's sway animation and how the camera moves forward. Bungie's unmatched grasp of tactile camera motion is normally reassuring asf, but god damn these visuals kill it off.

Arc pvpers will move on to Marathon and thrive there, arc pvp is trash

I don't mean competitive in terms of fair and balanced competition, I mean competitive in terms of kill or be killed. I suspect many Valorant, Siege, and Counter Strike players etc have the mental disposition to enjoy a game like Marathon.

Marathon also will have proxy chat. Bungie announced that a few months ago.

First person bungie gameplay alone will make me leave Arc Raiders if they nail the rest of what Arc has gotten right. The combat in arc is its worst part. Marathon should be far better than Arc with Bungie pedigree.

Arc is interesting for me. I'm a PvE or just offline guy. Destiny was really the king of live service games that didn't queer off the PvE/SP guys. Arc Raiders also has that in spades. From my perspective, Marathon doesn't have a lot for me in terms of the PvE experience.

Maybe it's short lived but the Arc Raiders playtest completely sold me on that game having something for me in those areas.

I think most of them:
  • People who liked Arc Raiders but would prefer a better gunplay, better PvP experience or a more futuristic scifi setting. Or simply got tired of the game after almost half a year
  • People who liked the extraction shooter concept but thought Tarkov and similar were too tryhard/hardcore and prefer something a bit less hardcore / more casual friendly
  • Destiny 1/2/Halo PvP players who got tired of Destiny 1/2/Halo and want to check what Bungie did next
  • Players from other hero shooter / tactical team based PvP shooters who got tired of Apex, Rainbow Six, Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, CS2, Valorant... and want to try something new different, maybe more sci-fi
  • A smaller portion, but still meaningful, could come from people tired of other PvP shooters (CoD, PUBG, etc)

Let me sound a different tune than the constant bashing.

The visual style is incredible. It feels really unique and alien. I've taken a bunch of screenshots while playing and I never do that in games.

The stylistic menu's, the sounds and weirdly shaped guns and enemies: I eat it all up.

Gameplay wise it can still grow a lot, but some things also feel better than ARC Raiders for example.
The items you find in the world can alter your character pretty drastically. When you find a couple of gun mods and a better shield you instantly are twice as powerful. Finding that stuff is a real treat.

Marathon, my baby. I'm waiting for you.

I like the PVP in Arc but its less skill and more tactics and patience. I found the PVP in Marathon to be excellent.

Its very unforgiving though, no safe pocket ramps the tension up to the extreme.

Great game though, although if you don't like PVP stay as far away as possible.

With no crafting in the game I also liked the Loot a lot better. Find a gold item and extracting is heart attack material.

This was a great "find".

I'm in the process of getting legally married to ARC Raiders, but I've definitely gotten skeptical of the safe pocket. I think it caps tension (and despair) at about an 8 / 10. I hate killing chock full players and immediately going "What did you stick up your butt?!"

It'll be interesting to see how we both play these games 3 or 6 months after Marathons release. Will we play both simultaneously or will be end up gravitating towards one? I can't give a good guess right now

I hate the idea of runners (ala heroes) with abilities. Just a death nail to this game for me. Give us a customizable shell that we can spec out - don't force us to play any single hero for a certain ability. Battlefield 2042 did the same thing and it was terrible.

I am getting slowly tired of arc raiders, and when Marathon gets out i am probably more than ready to play it. And there are now probably more people who will try it out atleast.

I personally will not play this at $60+. Might take a look at it for $30

I really do not like those menus and the art style is a big miss on me.

What game did people leave to play Arc Raiders?

Valorant is still popular despite Marvel Rivals coming out. People play more than one thing.

Looks like its coming along nicely. The lighting looks to be improved, last time I played it looked rough in places.

The player in the video was fucking painful though.

Doesn't look like we are getting a 4th non endgame map though which sucks.

This is the dream game I would make if I was teenage edgelord. (my teenage years were before The Matrix)

The colors remind me of the 80s somehow.

That video is from the same test we played

Was that only a month ago?

I've been away too long. Swear it looked better in that video.

Edit: Well fuck me I just checked my Steam page, it was indeed. I need to go for an Alzheimer's test.

Don't worry, I thought it looked better than the last playtest too. I never saw that night time lightning map, which looked pretty good.

Hopefully we get the ViDoc with release date next week.
