New Marathon Leaks from Playtest 3...

Yes. Titanfall had the same problem. Absolute greatness in gameplay, but too "bare bones" for today's ADHD gamers.
It was nice (didn't it do well commercially?) but it ran into the same problem BF6 is about to run into: COD exists.

These things don't exist in vacuums!

It's like these guys want to copy titanic games with ten times the presented value using less than 10% of the creative (business IQ) budget, they just don't have the gas tanks. It's just stupid greed.

Speaking of overly exotic unestablished ill advised microtransaction grabs...

They couldn't even get past the damn logo without completely fucking it up for themselves.

(Yes, 70s scifi is super cool but you're going to struggle your ass off with that shit.)

Oh i don't know what is this coments in referenced to. I didn't play the tests (ARC) . Just looked some videos and seems fun. I was under the impression that ARC followed Helldivers 2 microtransaction model with all stuff available to get by grinding. ( i'm not sure about anything though i'm not following the games closely)

I really like the aesthetics too, looks really neat, just worried they're a decade too early with that particular vibe for it to be sustainable (70s moebius shit /Concord) because it's free to play Western you have to hit the vogue on the head if you're free to play or you vanish in the mass of competition doing the exact same shit you're doing.

Looks like 90s / early 00s is the in-thing these days.

Arrowhead got lucky, they've been hammering away at that exact vibe for years and years, before it was cool, they struck gold when it came into view, I don't think Sony executives have a fucking clue what any of this means.

Given long dev time it's incredibly high risk getting into crowded live service, to get timing perfectly right, if you don't you might as well cancel.

Why on earth they thought it was okay to send out what looked like a pre alpha prototype build and present it as near release
This was frustrating. And these are not amateurs. Shows a lack of respect for playerbase.

Factions was so good and Concord/Marathon such disasters, it's extremely unlikely.
Potentially. But honestly, you never know. I hope someone somewhere within SIE is working on a Factions 2, but it's possible what Naughty Dog had was also not that great. Or in the same shape as Marathon/Concord at launch.

This game is going to be so damn good.

Single player 3 part series for destiny would have been awesome game given its backstory but no... we have to do GAAS BS!
Eh? You want an offline single player story game derived from a GAAS title? That's a new one.

Just play the Destiny campaigns. Not sure why you'd want to remove what makes the game good.

Looking forward to giving this a shot. I dont have any issue with Bungie like other people do.
Loved Destiny- sure it had some problems with content and pricing- BUT, you cant knock these guys for gameplay. I'm here for that Bungie gameplay.

Maybe this game could have worked but with Arc Raiders and Exoborne also coming out it seems headed for the Concord bin. It's already a niche genre and these releasing at the same time frame is going to be some savage cannibalization.

I have zero interest in this game still. Bungie definitely has an uphill climb with this game. I don't see it being a hit for them or justifying the amount of time and resources they and Sony have put into it.

I was under the impression this was smaller side project (by Bungies standards).

I hope so but even if it's a smaller side project, it's been in development for a while and was delayed. That doesn't sound like it's going to be cheap and we also have to take into account the billions Sony spent acquiring Bungie, they are going to want a huge ROI from that with both Marathon and Destiny.

At this point I think this will be deemed a success if it gets a decent-ish loyal player base, nothing earth shattering.

The only way Bungie can offer a decent ROI is D3, but as we are led to believe that's not on the table right now. Destiny Rising seems to be doing ok though.

Over promised and under delivered? Is that the No Man's Sky connection you are making?
Under delivered debut with an inspiring turnaround due to the developer staying with it.

Bungie benefits a great deal from their debut not being at launch.

It's already a niche genre
Ask yourself why so many AAA publishers are making games in this particular niche genre but not walking Sims, puzzle games, or visual novels?

Answer: The creatives have convinced the money people that the genre is nascent, not niche.

A leak about detailed information smells like desperation to me.
Looks like they are doing all they can for this to work, they can't afford for this project to fail.
And I will be there when this crap fails hard. Because honestly these types of games/projects deserves to fail so can Sony going to the right path.

Factions II got shelved because ND can't support a live service game long-term.
To add to this, they could. They chose not to.

Because they said it'd be a full-time job, given the scope of the game, which means they wouldn't be able to create single-player games more frequently. And they wanted to make more single-player games.

If anything, this speaks volume of Naughty Dog (which sided with single-player games) and Sony (which let go of a potential cash cow, after spending millions of $ into it, just because their studio wanted to take another direction).
