New PD0 Screens

HE LIVES!

wallguyluv.jpg

Tell me straight up, is there any chance at all that this game can be polished up and ready for X360's launch?
Bungie was able to do it in similar time. But this being Rare, who knows. I'd say launch window is possible.

J Allard didn't even want to comment on the graphics for this thing. Despite the comments from some mag writers, I find it telling that the MS front man repeatedly dodged having to comment on the appearance of this game. If it was presentable, or going to be presentable, I'd expect him to defend an in-house project a bit more. This game is gonna be a turd sandwich. Thanks for nothing Rare. :( PEACE.

I think this is now my favorite 360 game.

Why are they releasing screenshots with JAGGIES?

WTF MS, and these are official screens?

*sigh*

In other news, I like the concept art...

Keep hope alive!

Looks pretty good to me. Some of you guys need to just realize that your expectations from the next gen games were way to high, especially for the first batch of games. I expect better ai, bigger environments, and better lighting, but expecting CG graphics is just ridiculous. Games are about being fun to play, if you want pretty animated pictures then go watch a movie or download some graphics demo.

No doubt, it's all about the gameplay but it still doesn't excuse JAGGIES in a next-gen game. Simply inexcusable.

this is supposed to be MS' flagship launch title and was getting all hyped up as THE game that will get people to buy an Xbox360, much like Halo did for Xbox, so expectations are going to be higher for it than some middle of the road 3rd party game. Sure gameplay is important, but if its "All about the gameplay" then why are MS asking us to shell out another $300-400 this fall to play this shit?

Get over it. You know it won't be in the final game.

I don't know why people are going apeshit over these pics. Until we see some media from the version they were showing at E3 we're still looking at outdated graphics.

Oh come on! The game is still in development. Since all Xbox 360 games are required to have at least 2X FSAA, you won't see any jaggies when the game ships.

Which begs the question, why the fuck did Microsoft release these pics in the first place? :lol

Why would they hide a better looking version?

It looks good to me, those two first pics look real good! Man, you guys are expecting perfection, nothing will ever be perfect....nothing.

That, to me, doesn't really look too bad. It doesn't scream next gen, but it looks pretty damn good

This effect on the other hand, is just plain awful thus far. For one, the skeleton's just shouldn't be that bright. This is supposed to be X-rays, not infared. That isn't the biggest issue though. What the fuck is up with the hand holding the gun? Why the hell are the fingers wrapped around to the other side the same color as the rest of the hand? Is that a magical transparent gun? Whatever, they need to fix that effect BAD.

Which brings me to my point...

Why the FUCK is Microsoft releasing these crappy screens?

Is this some sort of marketing campaign of under-promise, over-deliver?

They had to give mags whatever they had at the time for their stories, I guess. Who knows.

Well we know why they're going apeshit, most of the people bashing it had no intentions of buying the game in the first place. They're relieved that in its current state it doesn't look that impressive. I'll wait till I see screens from the game running on final hardware before I declare "Abandon ship! I told you Rare sucks!"

It's getting a bad rap because there are games on current-gen consoles that look comparable to that. Do most of them? No, but there are certainly a few we could name that hold their own against this game's graphics.

If you think about it that way, then Microsoft is taking a huge gamble. If they show these pathetic screens and then as it gets closer to launch, we see that the game is absolutely brilliant, Microsoft will get a whole bunch of free publicity but who knows, by then they may have alienated far too many people with these lame screens. Only time will tell.

Perhaps we could have a stickied Rare hate thread? Because seriously, every single fucking thread is filled with the same shit. I mean, I'm no Rare fan (aside from the masterpiece that is Goldeneye and DKC1+2 I couldn't care less about their games), but seriously, the "OMG Rare sucks" thing is sooooooooo old. "Rare delay their games", "Rare no longer have any talent", "PD0 looks shit", "Kameo is teH kIddy", wah wah wah. Jesus.

And as for these screens...one's of a fucking hallway for god's sake. What the fuck do you expect a hallway to look like? A waterfall? Hallways don't have waterfalls.

And uh, has Rare EVER released a game with technically poor graphics? No? Then why should PD0 be any different? It may be shit, it may end up being good, but either way it'll look graphically fantastic.

Noone is expecting cg graphics. Expectations? Expecting a game to look at the very least on par with the best looking games this generation, and more appropriately noticeably better, isn't an unreasonable expectation at all, taking history into consideration.

Grabbed by the Ghoulies?

Come on, its at best Chronicles of Riddick in high res. Thats damn weak, especially when games like Gears of War and Ghost Recon 3 are being done under the same development conditions.

I'm at the point where I'm assuming Rare has flat out lost it. Hell, last generation's constant delays only to release shit did a good job at that. If anything good ever comes out of that studio again I'll be surprised.

I guess the fact that these are the same damned screens as people were bitching about weeks ago wasn't enough to stop people from complaining now. This is becoming pathetic.

Why could you be able to clearly see bones through a concrete wall, but not a gun? Your argument doesn't make sense. This view makes it possible to perfectly view bones through *anything*. Is that so hard to comprehend?

Shroom,

Last I heard, its listed as an X-ray device - not a magic bone seeker (man, that sounded a little homo-erotic).

Its fine that you can see bones through concrete, and the gun ... my problem is that the bones look the same whether they are behind a dense object, or nothing but flesh.

For one, they just shouldn't be so bright 'cause it looks like shite. Secondly, the bones should certainly not be as clear behind a high-density object since the object would at least partially block the X-rays.

Yeah but who cares, really? I'm sure if it works that way, then it was a gameplay decision. Either that, or since the game takes place in the future, they've invented magical bone seeking devices. Or maybe it's derived from alien technology? I think it looks fine.

No, pretty much the opposite. If your expectations for next-gen were this low that's a damn shame. Most of us have realistic criteria that should be met, and most of us are even giving allowance that these are first-gen titles. And the second-half of your comment is just completely dismissing the central point. Part of the reason we spend $300+ on new systems IS for the allure of substantially improved visuals. This is NOT such a leap at all, and it should be ridiculed until we see what's going on.

Gameplay might own, and that's fine. But if it's going to look like that, it should just own on the original Xbox and this way I wouldn't have to pay 300 dollars.

That said, I'm sure it'll look much better by the time it releases.

:lol

Ok, whether you like PD0 look or not, this is the best statement in the entire thread! :lol

Shroom,

Hey, I'm not trying to hate. I think the game will probably come out sweet, and think everyone's going way overboard on the graphics.

I just think the X-ray device looks really weird. It just defies what my (and I assume most people's) brain expects. Doing that breaks any suspension of disbelief imo.

Well, the original Xbox can't do 50+ players in one level. I think it depends what they are going for in multiplayer. Have we seen any single player screneshots?

any Battlefield game is basically unplayable with 64 people, I don't see how this game will run 50+ smoothly. (and by smoothly I mean, lag free)

These don't really look better than the original screens released. But then, I have no expectations for this title. Rare haven't had their obligatory 5 years to work with the hardware yet.

1.) I'm pretty sure Delta Force: Black Hawk Down supports as many players (if not more), but I could be wrong (yeah, 50 players on XBL).

2.) Yes, EGM had one screenshot from the singleplayer which they said was the only one RARE gave them. It was just as ugly as the multiplayer.

The man is right! When you think about it, Goldeneye 007 had pretty boring hallways, too:

And that game turned out quite alright, didn't it?

If everyone else thinks the X-ray mode looks fine, then I submit.

I just can't understand how it's not jarring to be able to see the gun at all, but have it not effect the fingers. It's contrary to not only reality, but reason.
