New PD0 Screens

what are with the "Wall guy" references people are making?

I want in on the story. :-P

One of the first pics of Perfect Dark Zero we received was posted at 1up. This contained a very ugly looking guy with no shadow and mostly shitty textures all around, stuck up against a wall as a firefight took place in the hallway to his right. He became the poster child for how ugly the first PDZ screenshots were, becoming a sort of unintentional mascot for Microsoft's new flagship title.

It seems like there's a lot of placeholder art, especially in the first screen. The walls and floors look really good (as much as walls and floors can) but that vent and the lights look like they have just better than N64 geometry and texturing. If they get all other elements of the game up to level of the walls/floors it should look pretty decent. May not be the X360 showcase, but acceptably next gen.

The screens really aren't THAT bad. They don't look particularly next-gen, but they don't look old either. The technology in use gives it the appearance of a current generation PC title.

All those N64 and other similar comments are way off base...

The art direction pretty much blows, though.

Shouldn't next-gen consoles be, you know, way beyond current generation PC titles?

I hear this from everyone that 360/ PS3 will blow all 2006 PCs (meaning with GF7000/ X900 cards) out of the water (the way it SHOULD be) and they'll catch up in 2007 but... I don't see this happening from these shots.

PD:0 is like PS3's I:8/ Sega game - looking like an average PC shooter...

Either something is wrong or someone is lying.

This game looks so mindnumbingly awesome. It makes Gears of War look like Xbox 1.5. Epic should be ashamed of itself, passing those graphics off as next gen. Those unworthy losers. Now we shall all bow down to Rare's superior skills at achieving the best graphics bar none. I bet those guys at Bungie are throwing up their hands and begging Rare to give up it's software secrets. Only a game this spectacular could make Itagaki shed tears from his bespectacled eyes, overcome with reverence and awe. Thus I give you Perfect Dark Zero. The game of the Century. No, the game of the Millennia. It will change you forever. :)

Oh, I TOTALLY agree. I'm hoping Sony's vision of next-gen is more accurate than Microsoft's. My point wasn't that these were acceptable for a next-gen game, rather, I was pointing out that they aren't nearly as ugly as people were suggesting.

I think when people are calling them 'ugly', its a relative term based on next-gen expectations. So for a next-gen title, they *are* ugly screens. On a PC they'd be OK screens. On an Xbox they'd be good screens. On a PS2 they'd be great screens.

That depends on your perpective (and opinion of course). Personally I think PD0 looks atrocious and not just because of its technical qualities (or lack thereof).

Having seen video of I:8 and PD0 I'd have to disagree.

Here's screens of I8:

To me that looks noticably better than Half-Life 2. PD0 looks marginally better than current gen Xbox stuff.

In related news, I8 looks fuckin' HOT, can't wait to see what happens when they get final hardware.

As for PD0, the game just doesn't look nearly done to me. Its not that Rare can't make good visuals, its that this game looks like something they've been working on for two months, not two or more years. I'm betting that it'll miss launch significantly. If its out in the first year at all I'll be amazed. It will however look significantly better than this, because MS won't let this out the damn door. Well, not if they want the X360 to succeed. No PD0 at launch > This PD0 at launch.

Regardless, comparisons to an N64 game are taking things just a bit too far...

I suppose my attempt to counter the negative comments in this thread may have lead people to believe that I find the game impressive or attractive in some way. Make no mistake, I think PD0 is an incredibly ugly game as of this moment...I just grow tired of people throwing out random "looks like N64" or "looks like a PSX game" in reference to any game from this previous gen or upcoming one.

Screens don't work but to be frank (saw them + video earlier) I:8 looks more like Painkiller than HL-2.
Still not as good as I would hope and not as good as GoW (360) or UT2K7 (PC) - both really stand out as next-gen titles with next-gen graphics.

Now don't get me started on CoD2 or that SEGA FPS for PS3.

Some people tend to exaggerate but I think we can agree that PD for N64 looks relatively better for its time. PD0 is an embarrasment. Even M$ seems to think so.

Yes, we can most certainly agree on that.

The game was pretty much finished for xbox, they should have just released it. It annoys me that MS are forcing Rare to just up the graphics so they can try and sell the x360 early.

Im sure it will look a lot better when it comes out but GOW will surpass it easily.

Fair enough on the Gamecube point. But then look at the Xbox at the same E3. Sure it wasn't a great showing. But there was a lot more playable software then. I played Halo, Azurik, PGR, Madden, and Oddworld. Again, I ask, WTF.
To be fair, they could emulate the Xbox more accurately at that point in time. Not so with 360.

Exactly. A P3 733 plus a NV20 card was not exactly the most difficult thing to find. The only chipset that was really missing during that E3 was about the only one that was really specific to Xbox, eg the audio encoder. And of course that's why Halo was so slow back then.

The reason I know the final game will be better is because of the company behind it. To Rare, the game's look is of the highest priority. They won't release a game that doesn't set a standard -- or at least stand toe to toe with other titles -- with respect to the game cosmetics. They pride themselves on that, and I don't believe for a second that they'll compromise their stance. If Rare is behind it, best believe it's going to look good. Play good? Who knows.

then, please can someone find out who really made GBTG? :lol

Am I the only floored by how fucking stupid this thread has become?

People are complaining about some of the same fucking screens that were complained about the last time there was a thread about "new" PDZ screens.

The only two we haven't seen already are obviously from the same old fucking build that all the other pics came from (unless the build they showed at E3 had fucking jaggies also, which I doubt).

Annoying, isn't it? It's as if people have such a need to bitch about this game that they are ready to completely ignore the fact that these are old screens.

GBTG was not a great game by any means, but it looked really nice in movement.

Don't get me wrong my fellow xbot, I also liked GBTG =P This generation I've enjoyed games scored with 6s and 7s much more than many of the big blockbusters.

Heck, I loved Alias: The Game and Brute Force =/

They need to capitalize on the wall guy. When they finally finish in 3 years, he needs to be a playable character. Just a 2d character who sneaks around on walls, real sneaky like. They could call him.. wall guy!
