The kid in me wants to see this work out, but the adult knows that Jaden Smith kid is probably going to be cast as the lead. Damn it, Hollywood.

Was in first grade when MMPR first came out and it was like the biggest thing in the world for a young kid at the time.

I've actually been expecting this for some time especially after Transformers has done so well.

I don't really know much about the property outside of those first 3 or 4 seasons though...after the first movie I sort of didn't keep up as much, and once all the originals were gone that was the end for me. Might as well consider that this will be a trilogy (Because c'mon, how could it not be) So, first film = origin story, Rita. Second film = Green ranger whipping their asses. 3rd film = Zedd?

Woah, let's not be too hasty.

Well it's something I never thought would happen.

But on the other hand why do so many of you want it? It's just going to be the TMNT threads all over again and you're going to complain and shit on it when the script/art/casting leaks.

It's MMPR, so I am automatically excited.

...that said, I dunno how you can make a real MMPR movie that either doesn't try too hard to be grimdark/explode-y for "adults", or so unabashedly cheesy that it's unwatchable for even children.

If you're gonna do it, just reboot it. 5 teens (ideally who are actually teen-esque), modernize the looks and character archetypes, make sure you have a place for as many of the original actors from the OG series if possible, and see what happens.

The songwriting in Power Rangers was unprecedented.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaangeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer

I agree that Del Toro would be perfect for this. And bring the guy that did the fight scenes for the Raid, have Zimmer do the music, and we should be good.

But who would write the script? Josh Whedon? That guy can't do no wrong.

I kinda wish they would do SPD or Lightspeed rescue next.

The whole having the government backing up the Rangers would go in tune with today superheroes. Aka Avengers.

JOSS dude. Joss.

Can't imagine them doing a movie that doesn't lead into a TV show. Doubt it'll be a complete "reboot." Probably will be the same as every season except this one starts off with a movie.

They have to know the Green Ranger is the most popular by far, no way they don't use him unless its completely based on a new series.

They should do what the original series did, have him be a bad guy first. First film finishes and they save the day from whatever, the last scene is Rita creating the Green Ranger, excitement ensues, everyone wants a Dragonzord.

I really doubt they'd attempt to make a movie with tv show costumes. They've already done that once and it bombed (Power Rangers Turbo movie). It'll likely be a movie reboot completely unrelated to the still running tv shows. The press release specifically says that it's MMPR too.

Well THIS came out of nowhere. I'm curious how this will go down. I love power rangers so I really hope the casting and directing is flawless.

I think you pretty much have to make it a kids movie. The 20-somethings will stomp and whine that it's not for them, but whatever. Those people can go love something else. Being for kids aged 10 and under is built into the series and its Japanese counterpart's DNA. Trying to make an Avengers-like isn't going to work.

The biggest challenge is going to be making the Rangers actual characters and people. The OG MMPR team are written as the blandest bunch of goodie goods ever. That really isn't going to fly today, when kids shows and movies are more comfortable having characters with personality and conflict. The later seasons of PR got this - around In Space and Lost Galaxy was when the writers actually began trying to craft characters - but basing it on MMPR doesn't give you much to work with.

Time for many people who have only ever seen the very first season of this nostalgic show to declare that clearly that one season they saw is the absolute best and that they should go "back" to that.

Yep. It's already happened 2 dozen posts from now Ithil.

These nostalgic folks don't know about the good shit like Time Force.

I'm just amazed so many people dropped off after MMPR. I figured most kids were like me and stayed with it until at least the end of Lost Galaxy.

You do realize almost every giant mech in Power Rangers is called something along the lines of Super Mega Turbo HD Remix Megazord. But there's only been one simply called "Megazord" right?

Actually, The original Megazord has been retroactively named the "Dino Megazord", officially a few years back.

well if Saban is going to handle this like they've been handling the recent PR seasons, then it will just be bland as fuck with ham-fisted references.

Speaking of which...please no JDF.

They should film it like the TV show - the PR scenes filmed in Japan with a Japanese director, and then the high school scenes in America.

That's not going to happen, though.

I don't even remember Zeo at all.

It's like Power Rangers: Saved by the Bell. More teen angst and storyline and it had the look of a soap opera. Still one of the better series of Power Rangers that still followed the original timeline/had the original cast. Obviously, nothing tops "in Space" in that era, though.

It's really weird, I loved MMPR but I somehow managed to skip Zeo, completely forget about Turbo and finally started watching it again with In Space and Lost Galaxy.

Yeah its weird, I know I watched them but it feels like MMPR went directly into Space(which I didn't like).
Then I bailed like 2 episodes into Galaxy
