New PSP and NDS TV commercials

PSP ads are decent, better then I was expecting. RR one is the best.

The NDS ad is very well put together, shows Utada Hikaru briefly before showing just gameplay and the system itself.

PSP ads bad. It won't sell.

Nintendo hanging on to that one hit song is patheticly reminiscent of there Mario whoring.

Hearing that song every commerical will not refect positivley.

I'd love to see the exact same style of PSP "have you seen it?" commercials in the US prelaunch campaign..

I was thinking that the whole Hikaru thing will either bomb terribly or be amazingly successful. As much as I hate J-Pop, that song is frustratingly catchy.

The PSP commercials are a little disappointing from what I was hoping to see after that Hot Shots commercial. It didn't even feel like it showed off the system enough for me. Of course, their US commercials will probably be more appealing.

The DS commercials are alright, I think they do a much better job of showing off the games and thus not have to be stylish. But other than that... iit's a lot like the GBA launch commercials which just had kids playing the GBA and certain games. (Speaking of... WHERE CAN I GET THAT SONG? I've been looking for them ever since the Japanese GBA launch).

I still remember the ways that you touched me
Now I know I don't mean anything to you
You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy
Soon you'll mean exactly nothing to me
And that means...

You look stupid telling all your friends how you got the best of me
I intended to share the pleasure only
Now I look stupid
We're living in a world with a lot of pressure
It's quite unneeded to put more pressure on me

You came and went and left my house
Like a breeze just passing by
Hello, Goodbye
You left a note saying "Twas nice stopping by"
I shoud've never ever let you inside

I still remember the ways that you touched me
Now I know I don't mean anything to you
You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy
Soon you'll mean exactly nothing to me
Does that mean anything to you

Easy Breezy
Do you whistle to hide that you're feeling lonely
How do I breathe with all this pressure on me
Easy Breezy
When you wrestle, you know that you hurt somebody
How do I breathe with all this pressure on me

You came and went and left my house
Like a breeze just passing by
Konnichiwa, Sayonara
'Twas nice of you to stop by
Would it amuse you if I told you that I...

I still remember the ways that you touched me
Now I know I don't mean anything to you
You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy
Soon you'll mean exactly nothing to me
Does that mean anything to you

I still remember the ways that you touched me
Now I know I don't mean anything to you
You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy
Soon you'll mean exactly nothing to me
Does that mean anything to you

She's got a new microphone
She doesn't need you anymore

RR (the game) looked so awesome in that video that I would probably do the same thing if I was that teacher :lol

Conversely, people gathering around some block/word pushing game in the commercial 05 seems a bit weird.

those DS commercials are weak, typical J-pop-tart nonsense from Nintendo. The second screen is such a gimmick. The PSP ads clearly have a wider appeal.

Your penis is tiny and there's nothing you can do about it.

:lol I had the exact same thing happened to me as the first PSP commercial (the RR one) when I first got GBA and played it during finals (I was a senior in high school and didn't really have to pass that final to get an A in that class).

DING DING DING

Give this man a dollar

And where they stopped Utada's song to end the commercial=mission failed. Should have got someone who knew English to listen to the song first and point that out

are we placing bets on which one sells more in Japan? If so I'll put my money on DS.

The whole "Touch" campaign is pretty well done. It makes the system looks like it's something new.

Well the PSP ads are doing everything right, start with the Playstation chime that people've known for over a decade, show the thing in use with some footage of of that gorgeous screen, end with the machine's own "sound" (PS2 had a kind of "pwooout", now it's peeesspee)

They're definitely throwing the full weight of the playstation mindshare behind this one they're sticking like glue to the ad format that got them uptop

whoa! That looks freakin' awesome!!! And that damn song is to fucking catchy and I don't even like "Pop" music forreal, let alone J-pop music. Also the Wario Ware one was the most interesting out of all the commercials even better than those PSP ones.... This is going to be a VERY interesting battle! The PSP commercials need some more work and need to be LONGER if you ask me... But they probably don't have that much money left for marketing after all the money they're bleeding. :lol

What are you smoking? that PSP ads are horrible. The teacher/student one is decent enough, specially since Ridge Racer looks absolutely fantastic, but it´s very predictable. All PSP ones are unimaginative and have nothing to catch the attention that is not the PSP itself, that it´s poorly exposed (such a beautiful machine should be exposed much more). And all that people looking to that words game? looks stupid.

"Mita" is "Did you see it"? if so it´s a good sentence, I like it.

The DS ones are nothing to call home about apart from the Wario Ware one that gives all a run for their money: Funny, catchy and with a short but meaningful exposure of gameplay. The Brand brothers and Feel the Magic are decent and the song is really catchy. One Line Puzzle and Pokemon ones are pretty bad.

Have you been in Japan?, have you read the english messages you can find in Tokyo? if so, do you think they care about what the song says in english?

I disagree. I thought that the pan shot with the buttons and D-pad was really great as it gives you an idea how luxurious the build quality really is, but doesn't give you the whole picture - you have to see and hold the handheld for yourself to really appreciate it fully. Thus the "Did you see it" line. If they overexposed it in the commercial itself, that line wouldn't work as you'd 'see' it right then and there.

And all that people looking to that words game? looks stupid.
Completely agree. Maybe it's some type of game that Japanese people are currently obsessing about, I don't know. Or the message is - no matter if the game looks crappy, people around will be amazed by the look of the unit itself :P

That mp3 is painful yet compulsive at the same time!

"You're Easy Breezy and I'm Japaneesy"

And I can't hate a song with a line like that :)

Nice to see another DS hating junior member!

You won't last long here.

This is just IMO, but for me the most attractive part of PSP is the screen, and that is something you can show very easily and would give excellent results. The first time I saw it, I couldn't take it from the expositor, but it was not necesay as I fell in love with that screen (and looks great on and off). The ads do little to prove how advanced the system is, doen´t show what I feel is the most "photographic" aspect of the system and don´t even catch the attention of the viewer, or at least of me.

And I have to say that I expected more sophisticated and stylish announces for PSP, but maybe that would work better for West.

The word game was at TGS, I didn't play, but sure there was not huge queues for it. But I don't see the point of selling a system showing a game that can be easily made for GBA, specially since one of the big points of PSP is its technology.

The PSP ads are quite good, IMO. The screen quality and console level graphics can be immediately recognized by anyone, especially by any of the 20+ million Japanese players who have been weaned on Game Boys their entire lives. Clear superiority + expert leveraging of the Playstation name = another successful marketing campaign.

Regarding the word puzzle game ad, some here are taking it way too seriously. These ads are supposed to be parodies/exaggerations of real life public reactions. Even still, I've had people hanging over my shoulder when playing friggin' Bejeweled! on my PDA...
