As I am getting older I am starting to realize that playing the games is probably the only thing I want to do, reading news, watching videos and discussing with random people on the internet is fine but feels much more like a waste of time than actually experiencing the games themselves.

Does it count if I will put videos on while I'm going to sleep? I'll use RTS matches, or stuff like mandaloregaming, or spiffing brit live videos which are hours long. I guess it's my version of falling asleep to a TV.

Hardly play anything at all nowadays. The fun is gone. I'd say watching game related videos and streamed live events make up the vast majority of my time.

I’m glad my response was already thought of as an option to vote for in this poll. That’s all I have to say on this embarrassing topic

Watching games and actually playing them are two different things.

I have a cousin who thinks he's getting the same experience by watching the game on YouTube.

There's more to his story, but the short of it: he's a cheapskate. I don't like cheapskates.
To be fair, some gaames are very light on gameplay while being story-heavy. If you want to experience the story i think it is totally fair to watch a game on youtube or twitch.

I love cheapskates and i dont like suckers who think that paying more is equal to getting a better product.

I've been reading more about games than playing them for the last 10 years.
Watching videos though? Nope, i prefer to watch a movie / tv series instead.

I hardly watch any videos on gaming or twitch now. I went through a binge of a couple of years but I play loads more games than watch them.

...being on gaf is a completely different kettle of fish though.

Completely Unreasonable
I never watch streamers, occasionally I'll watch a YouTube "how to..." If there's something in a game I can't find. I basically find places where people can leave their opinions and points of view a bit of a car crash now, full of people complaining about practically nothing or forgiving everything because of some weird personal politics (it's a certainty that some people will misinterpret that) or insane brand loyalty / hate in the pursuit of clicks, likes or subscribers.

I also don't want spoilers or to be shown how to cheese a boss. So, I pretty much take a look at metacritic and if the game's in a genre I like and has decent scores from non-bullshit sites, I'll probably give it a go. That's basically my games media consumption now.

I am currently watching a no commentary playthrough of Death Stranding on PC because I'm too much of a wimp to play the game because of those horrible shadow thingys.

Totally guilty.

I'm mote fascinated by the industry, the journalists, the devs, the financials, the drama, and all of the main characters and talking heads surrounding them. All I've been playing for the past several months has been short spurts of games that are 15 years or older.

Games in 2025 look great, sound great, are often mechanically polished, and state of the art. They're just not fun. Or as fun, in most cases. You have winners, but it's almost like something in the DNA of the game. I couldn't put FFVII Remake down. Missed sleep playing it late, etc. Same with RE7. But other titles in and around that release range are just missing that enticing draw, that urge that a good game gives you to invest more time in it. Very much a Mass Effect 2 vs. Andromeda thing for me.

I actually spend more time on gaf then watch people play.

I'd rather play games then watch unless it's my friends on share play.

That's me, I spend more time watching or researching videogames than actually playing them, like on a 4/1 ratio maybe.

Nope, for me I love playing video games waaaaay more than watching.

The only type of game I like watching are fighting game tournaments.

It’s kind of hard for me to get into gaming these days. Sometimes I’ll tell myself I’ll play today but than I’d rather just do something else. Go to gym, watch YouTube, go on gaf or something else to use my time.
