New (small) Frame City Killer screenshots

Something about the environments feels right. I really like them.
And in the trailer the city was just awesome with all of the people walking around.

"Not impressive at all, it could be done in the xbox."

Ok dude, I have GTA: SA in my XBOX right now and it looks nowhere near this so no, this game can NOT be done on the Xbox. What are you smoking?

Just from that tiny screenshot I can see a HUGE difference in textures, lighting, car models, HUGE difference in NPC models, which all cast shadows, the car has self shadowing on it(check out the mirror casting a shadow on the body), there are real time shadows on the player's head clearly from other objects in the game, overall crispness, FSAA....heck everytime I look at the screen I see something that SA is missing. This is what people really don't get. The visual difference won't be immediately noticeable with next gen. But if you see the games in motion running on your TV, you're going to see a big difference.

Nope.

This is how GTA would look like if it would be made for the PC from the ground up (normal-mapping, shadows etc.).
Lower-end systems would disable shadows or normal-maps for better performance.

Um...GTA:SA isn't exactly the greatest example to demonstrate the Xbox's power...

As you can see I am not the only one using SA in this thread and that's because this game is the exact same type of game as SA as far as graphics go. It's not going to look like Gears of War. Just like if you were to take DOOM 3 on Xbox and compare it to SA andreas on Xbox would be pretty stupid, so is comparing Frame City to anything else OTHER than a SA-type game.

And out of True Crime, GTA, and whatever other expansive city simulators there are on Xbox, GTA:SA is the best looking, that's why everyone's using it.

In a way, FCK is important cause it's the first time that japanese developers are making GTA-like crime game, we'll see how successful will they be at it.

GTA was made for PS2 and ported to Xbox...

Well what GTA-type game that was built from the ground up for the Xbox is there? Heck there are already frame-rate problems with this port, especially when its raining. Not to mention fog, pop-up, and a number of other issues. So even if GTA:SA was built from the ground up for the Xbox I doubt it would come anywhere close to what we're seeing in Frame City when it's having problems running GTA:SA.

GTA is the best game to compare it to. I guess you could compare it to Mercanaries, but its not like it would change things.

The renderer doesn't seem to be doing anything that Xbox couldn't do. It mainly looks better than current gen games because it pushes a lot more polys. It doesn't look bad per se but it's not terribly impressive either.

I know it's not important, but I still hate the main character's hair.

For me, next gen is all about believable hair. This game doesn't have it.

wow, that is a decent improvement. now they just need to make a decent looking game out of it, and redesign the main character for me to be interested... they have their work cut out for them

no, all I know is that the Tekken and the Ace Combat teams are working on it. I can't find the interview were I read this.

I would expect much better graphics from those guys. I'm thinking it's either Breakdown or Namco Hometek (Dead 2 Rights).

They will do either a half assed job like they did with StarFox GC or come up with somethng awesome like AC4. But I think Namco Hometek is also working on it.

I like the first 2 shots, the point where buildings start fading in is remarkably far, their detail is more than decent and farther ones look like they are fully modeled. If it's an entirely free roaming game, meaning you can have such views of the city whenever and wherever you like and you can get to those buildings (ie. it's not a few fake scenes where buildings are replaced with bitmaps or represented with other kinds of trickery) that's quite impressive.

Anyone else noticed that the folks are self shadowing. Nice...

I imagine that a lot of the textures etc are place holders.

I can with imagination - some of you should try it sometimes - think it will end up looking amazing.

+1 sale for me.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to troll, maybe it can't be done on the xbox, but it doesn't look next gen to me, PGR3, Ghost Recon 3 and Gears of War look like what I expect from a next gen game, even Conker looks better in comparison IMO.

yeah, it really is. add to that the sheer number of ped's in that one shot and all the shadowing... there still is some very rough/amatureish stuff going on though, and the designs remain assy, but it looks ok otherwise IMO

"Look at the guys jacket it looks like that black cushion you find on weight benches, it supposed to look like clothing material."

I agree but keep in mind, the motion of the material is what it's going to give it its properties more than this still picture leads you to think.

Xbox.com: Tell us about the development team working on Frame City Killer. What recent titles have they worked on? What experience and expertise does the team bring to this project?
Kawashima (FCK producer): When a new development team forms at Namco, we recruit staff from other projects. Kunimori and I both worked on roleplaying games, but other staff worked on games in the Ace Combat and Ridge Racer franchises.

Kawashima was producer of Namco's SRPGs like 'Venus and Braves' and 'Seven'.
Main programmer worked on AC 2-4 and Ridge Racer V, art director worked on AC3. I doubt Hometek guys are involved.
