Sony Pictures Entertainment has set Ian McKellen and Alfred Molina for two major roles in "The Da Vinci Code," the Ron Howard-directed adaptation of the Dan Brown bestseller according to Variety.

Molina will play zealous Bishop Arigarosa, who's keenly interested in the sleuthing activities of Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and cryptographer Sophie Neveu. McKellen will play Sir Teabing, a wealthy man who acts as a resource for Langdon even as he shows his own ambitions to uncover the Holy Grail.

Brian Grazer is producing with John Calley, whilst Akiva Goldsman wrote the script. Tom Hanks, Audrey Tatou and Jean Reno are already locked for roles, whilst Christopher Eccleston is tipped for a role earlier this week. The film begins production in June for a May 19th 2006 release.

Smells faintly of rancid stilton.
This will either suck or be great, can still go either way.I have no Idea how they plan on translating the pacing of the book onto film. I really like casting so far.

ugh. now anyone that does any study of religion is gonna have to live with even MORE people thinking that the da vinci code is real.

anywho... I highly doubt McKellan and Hanks would have signed on for this if they thought it would suck. And I trust these two men. So I'm fairly sure this movie is going to fucking rule.

Quite a cast, so far.

Tom Hanks, Jean Reno, Audrey Tatou, Ian McKellan, and Alfred Molina.

All led by Richie Cunningham.

Should be a good one!

WHAT?!?!!!!??!?!!!?/11//1

Dude... say what you want about the movie, but Hanks' acting in that film was phenomenal. He carried an entire film with only about half an hour of supporting cast.

Don't get me wrong. I think Hanks did an excellent job acting, it was just an ultra craptasic flick! I posted that because I don't instantly have faith in a movie JUST because he signs on...mainly because of that movie.

Gotta admit though, any movie Tom Hanks is in his acting is good. Although I know many Hanks haters that will drill me for that comment.

But Mckellan isn't a fatty....

Agreed, I saw Teabing being a bit bigger and younger. I saw him as a peer of Langdon.

Anyone besides me thinking why didn't they option Angels and Demons first. It was a much better book and it leads in the Da Vinci.

Haha, even though I really have no idea what this book is about, now I know to stay the fuck away from this movie.

He isnt that bad. Most of his shit was like 10 years ago. He did shit like Lost in Space and the Batmans but Beautiful Mind was great and won him an Oscar and I, Robot was pretty good. I have faith in this.

For some damn strange reason, when I was reading Da Vinci, I kept picturing Niles Standish from Crank yankers as Teabing... Go Figure...

Worse. Anyone that does any study of literature is going to have to live with even MORE people thinking that the Da Vinci Code is a halfway decent book.

I swear, finally I realise how Drinky Crow feels when people say nice things about Wheel of Time.
