It does matter as they're saying that the watergate, which was design to prevent water flooding the ship was compromised due to the fire and as a result was unfit for its purpose.

But we don't make ships based on the Titanic's design and there is no way you could sue somebody for it or press charges 100 years later. So it's just a "to know for knowing's sake" sort of thing?

This sounds like a guy who has spent a lot of time thinking about the Titanic grasping for something new to hang his hat on, rather than an actual likely cause of the sinking. It's far more likely the Titanic was going its full speed because it was trying to get its job done and they didn't think the ice was a major concern, rather than some byproduct of a fire.
