Good work, it looks excellent. Now, I'm a bit curious, so here are some questions( a bit on the tech side.): what's the software used?, hardware used?, approxx rendering time for average scene and/or one character?(is that who you say it?), and any other tid-bits would also be welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Divus :D

I'm using Maya 6 on a P4 2.6 Ghz PC with one gig of ram and the current render time is 10 minutes a frame, however that number will jump to about an hour a frame once we get into the heavy duty renders. The things that take longest to render are any objects with alpha channels such as hair and realistic lighitng where light bounces and colors reflect.

Great job on the eyes, Leguna. I had seen that shot before, but it still manages to impress.
Are all of those hairs on his eyebrow CG or is it a photo of a real eyebrow mapped over the model?

And I still think the costumes look off. Reminds me of Sudeki.

That looks so nice. Make sure you keep us updated! I want a finished (or semifinished) product!

By the way, doesn't the guy in the red jacket look like HxC_Thugg's avatar with a clean shave?

I agree about the costume. Give the guy some sleeves.

The top eyelashes look a little off but the rest of the eyes, the bottom lashes and especially the skin and eyebrow detail are excellent.

Nice work Leg. There's been massive improvement since I first saw your work on GAF... and even after you announced that you became a professional in the industry, these pieces are evidence of how much you've grown as one.

The eyebrow is indeed a real photo used as a texture with a bump map applied. I'm not seeing the Sudeki resemblence other than that both male characters don't have sleeves on one arm.

Jim Bowie:
Expect the finished product no sooner than end of 05. I just hope the awesomeness of FF7AC doesn't make everything I'm doing now look TOO out dated when I release it.

Die Squirrel Die:
I am going to re-texture the shirt a little here and there, but the design is final; I can't change his design.

Thanks! I still do CG for a living, but not for videogames anymore. Key to being a great leader is to be able to inspire your followers and treat everyone with the upmost respect. My boss at the game company was an asshole to say the least, so i quit. What a difference it makes to be in a great working environment with lots of cool people!

If i ever return to the videogame scene, hopefully I'll be in the director's chair (pipe dream). Let's just see where 3rd Sky will take me.

I'm not saying it is cut and paste from Sudeki, but the clothing style is absolutely the same in my eyes.

Can I ask you what '3rd Sky' is supposed to mean?

As incredibly talented as you are, you seem like the kind of japanophile who thinks nonsensical 'engrish' titles sound cool. I just think you're better than that. I only ask because your first film was 'Archer's Heaven', which again sounds like a badly translated anime title.

No offense, dude.

I can tell that the Roan art was done by Jae before I even saw the Jaet on it...but who did the environment drawing?

Nevermind, I saw the Jtek on that too. I thought that artwork was too detailed to be yours. :) Give Jae my complements, good work...even though he made Roan look a little too evil (also I doubt the musculature will make it to the model, considered it's nearly complete). Who did the Wallpaper? Jae as well? Its an impressive picture...

Are you calling your own artwork awesome?

...

I keed I keed

It's nice. Did you provide the 2d renders? The style looks different that what I remember you doing. Looks like one of them was done by "JaeT", did he do the other stuff as well (sans the 3d)?

The close up shot of the characters face is beautiful, though. Nice texture and lighting, but the eye texture seems a bit dead. Perhaps it's the effect of the light that's causing it to look washed out. What else are you doing for the eye other than just applying a texture to it?

The second character seems a bit off compared to the first -- It's probably because it was designed by a different artists... but also because it doesn't look a polished as the first character. Perhaps it's becaus eit's not your own creation? I like the style of the first ... the second seems like a Leguna mixed with some other character design that i can't think of at the moment.

Overall, it's really incredible work and makes me wonder what I'm doing with my time :)

Looks fantastic Leguna. Can't wait to see some of that artwork rendered in 3D or see any small bit of this in motion. Lot of faith it will be amazing, keep it up!

edit: btw, where did you find the team who's helping you out and how big is it now? They have some awesome work.

FINALLY someone asks! Beyond our sky, beyond the sky of space, there is a 3rd Sky. Watch the teaser to get a hint of what the movie is about. If I try to explain any further I'll just confuse people unless I give out some spoilers (deals with the concept that the universe was once shaped like a tear drop and 3rd Sky was the outer most layer). I don't want to reveal too much yet, but the 2 central characters come from there.

3pheMeraLmiX:
Jae Tsai (Image comic book artist) is now on the team. 3 other artists (including myself) are working on the 3D side of things. The only 2D work I'm doing is the concept art that I'll send to Jae to really flesh out and the storyboard artwork (check out the website to see a random storyboard I created) and designed and created Rone. The other character was design by the other artist based on what I had in mind. I wanted them to look very different. Here is my 2D character design for Rone...

That's so cool! My movie is being played all over the country without me knowing it! I wish I was there when you showed your friends to see their reactions.
