New York in 2009?

Not a fan of the design either. It doesn't fit our skyline at all
I don't get this argument. Did you want the NYC skyline to look the same forever? The city has to evolve at one point or another. I just don't see the appeal in trying to keep skyscraper architecture stuck in the 1930s-70s.

That's some awful design - can't believe they want to replace the towers with that - ug... remind me not to look downtown when walking to work.

Like I said, it's supposed to reflect the Statue of Liberty - which is just across the river or whatever body of water that separates them.
I think it'll look cool when it's done.

I still wouldn't want to work in that haunted place though.

I really liked the United Architects design. Far better than the "Freedom Tower".

The terrorists hate our freedom, don't you know! I guess it rolls off the tongue easier than "The terrorists hate our unilateral support of Israel, ties to the Royal Saudi Family, history of meddling with the directions of Middle Eastern Nations and military prescence on their soil."

Why do people hate the name so much? It's no worse than Statue of Liberty. It may sound awkward now, but in a few decades it'll roll off the tongue naturally.

Liberty Tower would've been cooler, though.

I don't know. Whenever I hear "Freedom Tower" it sounds like it's something from some really bad video game storyline.

"The President is being held by cybernetic ninjas at the top of the Freedom Tower! Are you a bad enough dude to save him?!"

That kind of thing.

:lol

I'm actually looking forward to it. I think the design is beautiful, modern, fitting for the 21st century. I can't wait to see it completed.

I thought the UA design was truly something new. It took that entwined tower thing someone elese posted to a whole new level. I saw Gregg Lynn lecture once and in addition to his other projects he brought the entire slide show of the UA WTC proposal. It was really great to actually see one of the projects (and one I liked) presented by the mind behind it rather than a series of too small pics and a 2 paragraph blurb.
