Next Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, Dragonball Fighterz) Game Might Be A Switch 2 Exclusive

Via post on the Purple Place, tho they're not the source (that'd be X0X_LEAK):

First From Software, now (potentially, if this is true) Arc System Works. Nintendo making big moves with Japanese 3P for exclusives this gen, I commend them. Something SIE should've been doing but, it'd seem Nintendo has more leverage going forward.

Considering it's ASW it's likely a fighting game....very slight chance it could be Smash Bros. related but I believe Nintendo are still working with Bandai-Namco on that IP alongside HAL of course. Maybe ARMS 2 😁?

Seriously, any ideas to what it could be?

Temper your expectations, it's a digital only game coming to Switch 1 as well, self-published by Arc System Works.
Looks like one of those several timed exclusives that end up coming everywhere in 6 to 12 months later.

I imagine this is a first party game, not a third party exclusive.

A Hotel Dusk remake collection maybe?

If someone had told you a Fromsoft game directed by Miyazaki himself was going to be exclusive to Switch 2 a few months ago, no one would have believed it... So anything is possible right now.

They pretty much outright own the JP market. If you're making a game for that market it's an easy sell for them to get exclusives from Japanese devs.

Worth sharing this.

Well that scratches the possibility of it being a Smash spinoff (Smash doesn't really "need" a spinoff anyway IMO). But also the possibility it's any Nintendo IP, as Nintendo would publish it themselves.

Also increases the chances it's a timed exclusive but still, very interesting to see Nintendo getting more aggressive with 3P exclusives in general. I know the Switch had some but they were random small & often hyper-niche games that mainly sold in Japan anyway, so there was little point bringing them to PlayStation given Switch's install base size. But I wouldn't call a modern From Software game "niche" in the same way tho, even if it's a non-Souls or new IP, given their pedigree as devs, but Nintendo still snagged an exclusive from them ahead of SIE.

We'll probably see more of that and, well, this (with the ASW game) going forward. Does SIE have any counters to that with Japan-made games or are they mainly going to rely on stuff from the different Hero Projects instead? Interesting times ahead.

That sucks, I hope it hits PC at least

If it's a timed exclusive then it's likely. That ASW are publishing it themselves seemingly, increases the chance of it happening.

Exactly, i think we are going to see a bunch of exclusives for the Switch 2 from Japanese devs.

Oh yeah, 100%. I wonder if Nintendo's going to do stuff like content exclusives (not necessarily game exclusives outright) to supplement it, for games that are otherwise multiplat, but Switch 2 versions have exclusive Nintendo-themed content in them. Particularly could be useful for late ports.

Key games, of course, certainly not tons of them. But yeah, figure that'll mainly be a thing with Japanese 3P titles. Keep getting a feeling that's something they're going to do with FF VII remake games as they come to the Switch 2, I'm curious to see if so and what it'll look like.

It's, as it was said there, a digital only game, which indicates that it's all but an actual major game. Nintendo spend the entire Switch 1 generation moneyhatting publishers and developers for timed exclusives, this is not a new strategy for them.

Another Another Code game.

Or the much anticipated sequel to GRound Divers

It actually is probably something along these lines, given what's mentioned in the leak. Still quite cool tho.

Well it is true, Nintendo definitely got quite a few timed exclusives on Switch, like that Ghouls n' Ghosts collection for one example. Was never any outcry about that, I think we can take a guess as to why.

I mean, I 100% have no problem with timed exclusives, or exclusives in general. They're good for gaming. But some people only start to care when it's PlayStation doing them 🤔

...Or a Tennis game, or a River City game, or some anime licensed game, or a drama adventure, or a remaster of an old game, or basically whatever.

I mean, I admire your excitement for their next game, but Arc System Works has tons and tons of products, many of them only on or first on Switch, and that'll likely continue with Switch 2. Some will be big and cool, maybe even fighting games, while some will just be whatever they make or license that month.

Yeah, you are probably right it's likely something more along those lines. There were more details in the leak, like ASW self-publishing it and it being a download-only game, also being cross-gen with Switch 1.

I can't imagine it'd be one of their big IP like GG or BB getting a new Nintendo-exclusive entry (and if it is, as a smaller non-fighting spinoff). I'm still interested to see what it is tho, and to see what else it leads to between Nintendo & ASW.

With 2nd party, yes.

Eventually with first party too. The only thing thats preventing Sony from day and date is not having a launcher. Now that Xbox is out the paint with consoles Sony is going double down with Software going on PC and Monopolize the brand. Since they got the console space by default.

You think they'd do what killed their competition. The only time 1st party will be day 1 on PC is if it's online only or very focused on online similarly to this.

Gamepass killed it. If they still charging for their games I don't see what the issue is. The average consumer doesn't care to game on PC in the western world. The East is a different story since PC is more popular out there. As long as Sony is still charging for games they will be fine.

And with IP SIE don't own, on top of that. So I guess stuff like this game, Lost Soul Aside, etc. Although this game also falls into the GAAS category, and we already know their strategy there is Day 1 PS/PC (tho it shouldn't be for every GAAS, IMO).

Game Pass wasn't the only thing that killed it. MS deciding to put all their games Day 1 on Steam at the start of this gen, contributed a lot to declining their own console's appeal, too. Since Steam was already getting all the same multiplats Day 1 as Xbox (and eventually, PlayStation too). Microsoft deluded themselves into thinking doing Day 1 on the largest PC gaming platform sharing all the same game library as their console, wasn't going to harm their console.

If that was their bet, they bet horribly. Xbox sales only stayed somewhat healthy in 2021 and 2022 because of PS5 & PS4 shortages, and the recession caused by COVID lockdowns. Once all of that ended and PS5 was easier to buy, Xbox sales began declining practically immediately.

If MS had just stuck with Day 1 for Microsoft Store and treated Steam the way SIE does, at least that would've given more gamers a reason to get an Xbox even after the lockdowns and PS5 shortages ended. But I think they underestimated the appeal of Steam and, as usual, underestimated a company much smaller than them simply because they're smaller, and are now being reactive after realizing how dominant that smaller company is becoming in a space that could affect one of their main product lines (ironically once again, that product being Windows).

We know, it was just funny in retrospective over thicc_girls_are_teh_best thicc_girls_are_teh_best worrying a little bit too much about SIE.
Marvel Tokon is a SIE game, though.

SIE are actually showing some of the strategic changes now, and that's all I needed to see. Zero chance a pre-Concord SIE would've been making moves like this though.

Concord bombing and those other GAAS getting cancelled needed to happen in order to lead to stuff like Marvel Tokon, seemingly. But better it happened when it did vs. later.
