next "dear friends" concert tonight!

Patrick Klepek

furiously molesting tim burton
the second "dear friends" concert in the united states takes place tonight in chicago at the rosement horizon. it should be a blast; uematsu seemed pretty excited/nervous from the interview i had with him on friday morning. the transcript should be up on gaming age monday morning, if not before then.

anyone else headed out there? it is in about an hour, but it's only 15 minutes from me :P

do you hate me wario? you always paint me out so. :P

i was unarguably upset at the time, simply because itagaki refused to conduct a proper interview (an unscheduled one, as well) with me because of the poor review, which i didn't write. however, since i refused to apologize, he and his publicist didn't want to cooperate. anyway, it's not that big of a deal. the recording was never uploaded because it's off of a piss-poor cassette recorder, and the japanese is unintelligable; they speak softly and the mic couldn't pick it up.

that's besides the point, though. the concert was great, and uematsu seemed to be in fantastic spirits, as the crowd really showed their appreciation. looks like we'll be seeing more "dear friends" concerts in the future, too; the venue was sold out.

plus, uematsu made it clear he wants to have the black mages do some shows in the us. from the crowd's enthusiastic reaction, i'd expect at least a date or two sometime in 2005.

i even got to give bradonnn a ride home! mark another person down who flagged me down 'cos of my hair.

That's sad. Why won't people go to a real concert instead? Uematsu writes great video game music, but if you take it away from the video game its complete trash.

(dang ... music trolls??)

I was there with 3 of my buddies! Totally rocked!

Dear Friends + DS = awesomeness!

there was a good 15 peeps jumping in and out of games at the start and intermission ... totally got smoked in some metroid.

First of all, Uematsu's music is gorgeous no matter where it is! Secondly, they show cutscenes on a huge screen so you a get both an audio and visual experience.

I'm still waiting for my overall VGM concert of stuff that isn't Final Fantasy.

At least, this stuff is a nice start.

Oh, ok. That's cool. Uematsu's music really needs the visuals.

One of my best friends went. He got to meet Nobou. He said it was really good. They did an encore of the Sephiroth theme.

is that the same as this :

Seems somebody from the GF forums ripped the DVD

there was someone dressed up in a sephiroth outfit. :(
Haha, that was me! I worked really hard on this costume - so much so that my parents threatened to kick me out from living in their basement!! I was singing the theme to sephiroth at the top of my lungs the whole time while I was working on it so I guessed it pissed them off!! Anyone want to come to my birthday party?! I'll be 32.

I would love to hear Sonnarat's take on the quality of the FF soundtracks

He'll probably think they're crap, at least that's what the musicians that played at the first concert thought, haha.

I wanted to go when it was first announced, but I already had plans scheduled for last night. Too bad, I keep missing these opportunities to meet you exxy.

oh man what a concert. the playlist was superb and i have to hand it to squenix, after the 45 dollar tickets + convenience & service fees and 15 dollar parking fee (not to mention gas money) they still managed to wrestle an additional 40 bucks out of me for a tshirt and program. godbless them.

that program's awesome :)

one of these days!

I was fortunate enough to make it to last night's concert, as well as the premiere concert in L.A. last May. I wrote a pretty frigging huge (and scatterbrained :D) write-up for the Chicago one a few minutes ago, and posted that to a forum I frequent, mentioning each of the tracks, what was going on on the screens up above, Uematsu's comments, etc. If anyone wants, I can post that up (....I think I even have the equally massive writeup I did for the LA one saved as a text file somewhere here so I could stick that up too), but they'd be pretty huge single posts, and I'm not sure what GAF's policy is on that.

Needless to say, an incredible experience both times. An identical program, but was more than worth seeing twice. Let me know if I should post the more detailed impressions.
