Next-Gen Leaks Round Up for 2020 and Beyond - Let's Have Some Fun Discussion

Hello everyone,

As you are all aware the outside world is a big crazy right now and not so fun. With that being said I thought it would be a good idea for the Gaf community to shut off the real world for a bit and put our minds something towards more exciting and fun. June is supposed to be a big month for gaming as well July and we will be riding the hype wave into the releases of next-gen consoles and beyond. I thought it would be a good idea to round up all known/leaks about various developers, publishers, games and so on. I will not be listing source links here simply because I'll up front and honest, I am too lazy to do that, so instead I'll do a bulletin points list of what we heard so far and what might be happening in the foreseeable let's begin.

DISCLAIMER - NONE OF THESE ARE MY SOURCES - ALL OF THESE ARE KNOWN STUFF ON THE INTERWEBZ - THIS IS JUST FOR THE EASE OF CONVENIENCE AND PURE SPECULATION FROM THIS POINT ON.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (Cross-Gen, for 2020 for PS5/PS4/Xbox One Series/Xbox One/PC) - Pre-alpha footage apparently leaked on twitter. Previous Kotaku sources also speak of the Cold War era if I am not mistaken.

  • Demon's Souls at the end of the PS5 conference - Leaks go as far as back as 2019 from Kotaku, very safe bet we will see at PS5 conference. As for the end or beginning this was said a few days ago. (Worst kept secret for Sony, at this point)

  • Bloodborne for PC/PS5 Port (Playable now via PS Now on PC) - Wario64

  • Horizon Zero Dawn 2 - Guerilla Games teased with some tweets (now are deleted) Not really a big surprise and was to be expected.

  • Silent Hill Reboot - While Konami is denying it AstheticGamer who's a reliable horror game leaker has nailed pretty much everything up to this point. No company would ever admit to a leak being real, because that would break NDA and cause lawsuits - of course Konami will deny this. There are so many rumors on Silent Hill reboot I am 110% positive this is happening at this point. To be revealed sometime this month, most likely at the PS5 event.

  • Resident Evil 8 has a release of January 26th, 2021 coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC as a cross-gen game. Takes place in castles, caves, forests and is based on occult themes and has werewolves along with a female protagonist and a male antagonist - was also leaked/sugested by AstheticGamer he has been on the dot with every single Resident Evil leak so far. A lot of this stuff also lines up with how Capcom has been treating RE lately.

  • Resident Evil 4 Remake is coming, full next-gen 2022 - again AstheticGamer

  • Dead Island 2 PC build leaked from 2015 prototype on twitter. Game is now rumored to be a cross-gen release for launch of the new consoles, doesn't sound too far fetched.

  • New Halo project is in the works at 343 Industries (check their job page/career page) this was discovered very recently that a possible Halo spin-off is in the works. Now what genere it is and how it will play is another story, no leaks have happened or any concrete details were given. We have yet to see Halo Infinite in action, but that changes in July.

  • New Fable game is on the horizon over at Playground Games - this needs no explanation, these rumors go back as far as 2018 - probably worst kept secret for Microsoft.

  • Perfect Dark Reboot - This goes back as far 2018 as well and was originated at ResetEra - still not many leaks or who's even handling the development, could be a lie or not true, or could be real as well.

  • Elden Ring to be shown at the Microsoft event sometime soon - believed to be a cross-gen title, but who knows maybe is fully next-gen. Game is described as very dynamic with a lot of crazy stuff going on in the background like insane weather effects, random AI patrolling random areas at random times and not your typical pre-set mob placements. Will give a big twist to the Dark Souls formula. Has horseback riding, inspired by Zelda and Fumito Ueda. Very ambitious game and is considered as the spiritual successor to Dark Souls, especially combat (This is the closest you will get to Dark Souls 4).

  • The Initiative the new studio built from the ground up that has a ton of people from Sony Santa Monico and Naughty Dog is touted as a quadruple studio over at their career page - yes AAAA and has a title in the works that is apparently codenamed - Dark Tide. Rumored to be a rival/Microsoft version of Horizon Zero Dawn.

  • Kojima had another game in the works already at Kojima productions, but the development did not go well and the game/project was cancelled. Not sure if this was the horror game that he had in mind or if this was something completely different,

  • Gran Turismo 7 - sort of leaked via company that makes racing chairs (Added)

  • New Ratchet & Clank is in the works for the PS5 according to Colin Moriarty (Added)

  • Next Far Cry title to be released prior to April 2021 according to Ubisoft's fiscal year schedule. Among these titles is also Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs.
  • Crash Bandicoot coming to PS5 as a launch title. Rumor came from reddit if I am not mistaken. Will double check and update this soon.
If you guys know more of the rumors or have other things that got leaked and it's not listed here, please let me know and I will update, thanks!

Gran Turismo 7 sort of leaked via that company that makes racing chairs or whatever.

Ratchet & Clank: Colin Moriarty insists that a new one is in the works and at this point it's almost certain to be a PS5 exclusive.

OHHHHHHHHHHH ELDER LEGEND... thanks you for making this thread mate.

I'm really surprised that AC hasn't leaked a bunch of deets, Ubisoft are uber-shite at keeping their flex tape stocked up. I hope they leak the game thats coming after Valhalla around when Valhalla is released like happened with Syndicate, that was mind-blowingly comical.

I am friends with someone who gets a sneak peek at Ubisoft titles quite far in advance. They saw AC: Valhalla a year prior to the reveal of the game being played in action. That's all they could say really lol. I would not be surprised if they know what is coming next, but sadly for obvious reasons they also can't say everything to me either.

Good stuff, he's doing his job properly then.

edit - not that leaks aren't fun, but they usually just dehype the whole thing, unless its looks like something really new.

HZD2 is gonna rock my world. Been my most anticipated NG title for awhile now.

I really can't wait to see this in action (hopefully in July)

Have you been vetted on Gaf?

It would be a really good idea for you to go through the vetting process if you have connections with the industry.

To be quite honest, I do not want to be vetted, I do not care for fame or anything of that sorts as I personally do not have any leaks to share or anything of that sort and even if I did I would never mention it here simply because I like to keep work and fan speculations as a gamer separate. Just because I am connected to the industry in some shape or form, or even any other people really doesn't mean we know everything and being told everything. It's not black and white like many may think it is.

I don't share the same sentiments/feelings for HZD2 (as the original game kind of bored me to death) but as far as Fable goes I am super hype to see that, that was my childhood game

I remember when Fable was first previewed in magazines and it was being hyped as this super interactive evolving story "you can carve your name on a tree as kid, then return to that tree as an adult and it will still be there." Obviously that had to be scaled back quite a bit as the game was developed, and it didn't end up looking like those first screenshots, but I love Fable.

Holy shit, You just hit the nostalgia nerve in my brain dude. I will never ever forget reading my collection of OXM magazines and drooling over fable. It was called Project Ego at the time...I miss those days so much :/ The planing a seed into the ground and growing a tree never fucking happened. Molynuxe was on drugs and lied to us alll.

I just tried looking for those old screens, the one where the character was standing in tall grass. Can't find em

Thanks for your response.

Just be mindful that you can't share information with us as an insider if you haven't been vetted yet.

Anyways thank you for the thread.

Where did I share any information in this thread and said I am an insider? I am sharing rumors/leaks that are out on the internet, it has nothing to do with me lol. Stating that I know who sees Ubisoft games in advanced doesn't mean I know anything or I am being told everything. I've simply made a thread for people to talk and discuss known rumors/leaks. Are you one of those people who enjoys witchhunting? Honest question, or are you looking to get a pat on the back from the mods and backseat mod? Just curious. Either way, let people have fun and please don't sit here and shit up a thread. I've been a lurker on gaf for almost a decade and know how this shit works lol.

Hmm wonder if the Killzone franchise is dead

To be honest, I think it should stay that way imo. Killzone had a good run, I think the issue is that for the most part Killzone just tends to feel like another generic sci-fi shooter. Titling themselves as the Halo killer back then also was not a very good idea and the game ended up getting bad rep for that. The franchise would need a dramatic change in order for it to come back and succeed, I much preferred the old killzone art style over Shadowfall. Shadowfall felt too bright and colorful imo despite its good visuals.

I've put a massive disclaimer up there, so any dog-piling can go fuck itself.

That's actually a good idea. I didn't mean to offend you BTW. Just don't want this thread to go south since we need a nice place to track these types of rumors.

The next gen speculation thread has a bit too much in it if you know what I mean. Alot of the rumors on actual games gets lost among the discussions on the hardware and reveal events.

I believe/agree with almost everything on that list. I don't believe that Dead Island 2 is anywhere near completion as they've had three studios working on the game and those never work out good. If anything, I see this game being 2+ years away at the bare minimum.

I do believe that Demon's Souls Remake and the Bloodborne PC/PS5 ports are real but I DON'T believe that either or both will end the PS5 digital showcase. I believe that will be Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

Fair enough brother and thanks for the compliment. And yeah, that thread is massive, so I thought it be nice to put more concrete stuff here.

So the rumor is that the Bluepoint project is Bloodborne/Demon Souls? Theyve been blowing a whole load of smoke for nothing if that's the case

I think Demon's Souls is a guaranteed for PS5 showcase. Bluepoint has been teasing this for a very long time now. Bloodborne for PC I feel should be its own announcement and not at the PS5 event, simply because its a PC version of the game and not PS5. UNLESS, there is something related to Bloodborne on the PS5 then that's a different story.

Really like that Insomniac is bringing us another Spiderman. While not a rumor anyone have any idea of who the next villains will be?

I definitely think that Venom will be in it. And I'm sure some past ones like Rhino will make a return.

I think the rumor is that the big game for PS5 is Spiderman 2 in 2021. I'd have to do some digging and googling to see exactly. I believe it features Carnage, but I could be wrong. Brb.

This is the game that they said would he a benchmark right?

I really hope it's true because I'm dying to see some true next gen titles.

Yes, that is correct. Demon's Souls (assuming that's what it is)/Bluepoint did state that it will be a benchmark for PS5. - this was in a tweet i believe.

Also, here is the Spiderman 2 stuff. Big ps5 game, launch 2021, features Carnage and Venom as villains. Could be great if done right. - https://www.gamesradar.com/spider-man-2-rumors/

I'm really curious about dead island 2
If they manage to put in the game the feel/ambiance of the trailer it could be fun.

i know first one is a bad precedent on that front though

Agree that Demon's Souls Remake is pretty much a guarantee for the PS5 showcase. Bloodborne being announced for PC on the PS5 showcase would make sense if A) there's a PS5 remaster for it or B) Sony is going to be porting more of their games to PC. I believe that PS5 exclusives will be day one on PC within a few years. Too much money for Sony to leave on the table.

I think Dead Island 2 could be fantastic if done right. My only concern is how much more different would it be from Dying Light 2? Dying Light 2 is a very ambitious game and its looking tight. How different would Dead Island 2 be then? And what can set it apart from it other than taking place on an island instead of a city/suburb? It would have to be more arcadey then and less realistic or have its own unique systems. I just have a hard time seeing these 2 games co-exist because they are so similar to each other.

Demon Souls Remake, GT7 and Horizon Zero Dawn 2 would probably be the first true next gen games that we see from Sony. Hopefully all three will be present at the reveal event.

If Spiderman is coming in 2021 then we will probably see that one as well. However would expect something like that during the holidays or around the release of a Spiderman movie.

I am gonna take a super wild speculative guess here on release windows.

Gran Turismo 7 - PS5 Launch Holiday 2020
Demon's Souls - PS5 Launch Holiday 2020
Horizon Zero Dawn 2 - Spring 2021 Launch
Spiderman 2 - Fall/Holiday 2021 Launch

I like the hack and slash aspect with loot so i am fine with different focus in ambiance only.

Does Sony own the Demon Souls IP?

Sony owns Demon's Souls and Bloodborne. If Microsoft ever buys From Software (there is a slight possibility and speculation that that's the Japanese studio they are looking to get) Bloodborne 2 would have to be made by different devs. Unless the game is already contracted out and needs to be finished even if Microsoft bought them. Which would be a similar case to The Outer Worlds because the game was already in development and contracted out to be a multipltform title before Microsoft purchased Obsidian.

I really want to see gameplay footage of demon's souls remake, horizon 2, silent hill remake and resident evil 8. Sony hurry the fuck up and show them already. The wait is unbearable.

I don't care if they release bloodborne on PC, it would be amazing if more players get to experience this masterpiece and maybe it will attract people towards demon's souls remake(a ps5 exclusive). But if they didn't release a 4k 60fps patch for bloodborne on ps5, I would be really pissed.

I don't think that ps5 games will be on PC until the end of the gen. I think that they are porting some games whose sequels or similar games are releasing on ps5 to attract new players other than their loyal fans. Exclusive games sell consoles. And Sony knows this too. They just want a portion of hardcore pc players to get ps5 and the release of ps4 pro and some ps4 games on PC, are some of their efforts to attract that crowd.

On a selfish level I'd like Sony to release all their games on PC, cos then I could just buy a PC and play every game on ultra at 60 fps. But I can't see them doing it because as mentioned exclusive games are what gets people on their platform, and having people on their platform is what get them their money. The additional revenue from PC sales is small potatoes compared to that.

Isn't The Initiative, which I think is a relatively small to mid sized studio, the ones supposedly working on the Perfect Dark reboot?

Dark Tide and Perfect Dark seem like a "choose one" kind of scenario.

My release date predictions -

Launch -
Demon's Souls Remake from Bluepoint Games
Housemarque new IP
Killzone 5, Socom 4 or new FPS IP from Guerrilla Games
Ratchet & Clank 2 from Insomniac Games

Street Fighter 6 - Early 2021
Gran Turismo 7 - Fall 2021
Horizon 2 - February 2022
Spider Man 2 - September 2022
Silent Hill Reboot - Fall 2022/Early 2023

I'm fully expecting Sony to port their PS5 titles to PC day one by about the halfway point of the next generation. Simply too much money to be made for Sony to pass that up and for what? Pissing off a few thousand fanboys that it doesn't affect anyway. There are those like myself who are 100% console only gamers so Sony putting their exclusives on PC day one at some point is the same as Microsoft doing it for me - non-existent because im not going to play games on PC anyway regardless of the game. At the end of the day, it's all about money. Always has been and always will be. Sony is basically passing up what is essentially free money.

I could definitely see a deal with Epic where their exclusives go on the Epic Game Store for a year where gets a massive payday for each and every game, Epic increases their install base to their platform and then Sony releases them a year later on Steam giving them even more money. If anything, it's not a question of if but when.

Dark Tide and Perfect Dark seem like a "choose one" kind of scenario.

I don't know how big they are exactly in terms of physicial studio or man size, but I know they're considered by Microsoft to be the big dawgs as a 1st party studio and basically the Naughty/Sony Santa Monica version of Microsoft.

I am just gonna say this much. The Initiative will be a force to be reckoned with.

I think Perfect Dark is being handled by Sumo Digital in collaboration with The Coalition assuming that its even real to begin with. The game is speculated to be a 3rd person reboot and not 1st person. Coalition would make sense because they make 3rd person games and so does Sumo Digital.

Dark Tide I think is the big quadruple A game aka Horzion Zero dawn of Microsoft.

In all honesty though, a lot of this sounds like weird gibberish and it's hard to say that any of this sound real.

I believe the Dark Tide stuff more than Perfect Dark reboot.

I found this from a March 2019 article on Windows Central...

"However, The Initiative also looks to set expectations going forward, claiming "staying small, and staying agile, will actually be our strength." Followed by words from Gallagher, the studio lead states "the bar is high" and "the challenge for us is making sure we deliver on those expectations." It indicates The Initiative is starting small for its early projects, leveraging a tight team focused on innovation – not scale."

As someone who prefers innovation in their games, I'm all for it, but it doesn't sound like they'll be Microsoft's answer to Naughty Dog Any time soon.

Just because a team is smaller and more agile doesn't mean that they are any less inferior or superior to a studio like Naughty Dog. You also have to realize, technology changes overtime and so development evolves as well. You can still focus on innovation and make a big/ambitious title. Its not a indie studio if that's what you're implying by any means lol.

Also, not to get into a pissing contest but Naughty Dog is not really know for its "groundbreaking innovative gameplay" let's be real. They're more of story tellers rather than gameplay. Uncharted and TLOU never had anything ground-breaking in their gameplay mechanics, it was the theme and how the story is being told what made these game so highly praised and sell. The mechanics in these games worked well for the theme and were well executed but they were never ground breaking. Naughty Dog also refuses to make open world games which in my opinion is a shame, but maybe they know that that's just not their strong suit and that' fine.

So I am not sure what you mean "Naughty Dog" levels. Naughty Dog was never ever a king of gameplay. If what the article states in regards to innovation and not scale is true then that would imply that The Initiative is looking into creating a more consistent experience rather than throwing the player into a giant massive open world which is actually what Naughty Dog does these days. Dark Tide still could be an open world game but it doesn't mean it needs to be absolutely huge, because more empty spaces doesn't usually mean higher quality in the first place. If anything the whole "innovation" thing and smaller "Scale" actually fits Naughty Dog description pretty well, Naughty Dog tries to innovate already good mechanics, into more better mechanics and evolve what's already there, but they never tried to or even attempted to reinvent the wheel and that's fine because it works for them. Last of Us itself or Uncharted are not very big games in terms of scale, they never were. UC 4 and TLOU 2 are more open ended sure, but that's it.

Horizon Zero Dawn also was an open world game, but it never focused on the scale either, at least in my opinion. It took a lot of the mechanics that already existed in other games like Far Cry where you collect mats and craft using a navigational wheel hud, the crafting is 1 to 1 with Far Cry lol. The only innovative part was fighting the mechanical dinos, and even then that was obviously inspired by Monster Hunter with Horizon's own twist with breaking the mechanical parts. I do not consider Horizon Zero Dawn a massive game in scale, the world is quite small compared to something like Zelda BoTW or any of the AC/Far Cry games. But its more consistent with content and activities rather than fluff. The Initiative could be taking a very similar approach.
