Grass looks good, trees look good. I like its chances.

But one thing that's bothering me is the shoes. WTF is he wearing. Could they not get a shoe deal with Nike or something. Red sneakers with a gold buckle?

Then what was Sompola talking about then?

Nevermind. I think you've made a good point so since i can't say anything constructive against it then I have to take back my words.

Oh well.

Tough crowds here at GA. I have high hopes for this game, I think it looks great, and still has PLENTY of development time left. I just hope the main focus this time is on sonic. :)

"We are proud to re-create our famous friend, Sonic, for a new generation of gamers on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," said Naka. "With Sonic the Hedgehog, we have gone back to our starting point, more than 15-years ago, to reinvent the attitude and speed that made our hero a legend. The 'rebirth of Sonic' will offer an unparalleled sense of speed that is only possible using the processing power afforded by the new systems."

aaaaaaaaaa he 's back ! Sonic will be 15 years old in June 2006.

Some of you are smokin purple haze. The game looks gorgeous. That draw-in distance = droooooooool!

Sega deciding to go multi-console is a sigh of relief

Alot of speculation/rumours over then net of MS trying to get exclussives and early rumours of 360 Sega exlusives had me a little edgy.

now that Sonic (next gen) is slated for both PS3 and 360,, I'm relieved with this multi-console news because I intend of only investing in "one" console for the next gen: the PS3

I impatiently await the arcade arrivals of Virtua Fighter 5 and Afterburner, and I hope Sega decides to port them multi-console afterwards.

I really really really DO NOT WANT a 360 because of one or two exclusive Sega titles. I preffer them going multi-console or just Ps3,,,, I only want a Ps3

Shomp IS talking about the E3 trailer. It WAS a pre-render, but it was based directly on the assets shown in realtime at a later date (at the Sony PlayStation conference held in Japan during the summer). People were point out that the hoses on the Gundam model were "too round" to be realtime and that they forgot to "polygonize" them...but it turns out that the models are the same.

The version of the demo shown playable was built on the same assets, but ran at a lower framerate and featured downgraded shadows. However, it wasn't even a game. It was just a random street to walk around. VERY early stuff, but even in that form, it was looking very detailed. The fact that it is from Bandai is really impressive, as they are typically not known for visuals (hell, they typically deliver UGLY games).

Basically, the point was that the E3 demo was a suprisingly close estimate of what the PS3 could actually render in realtime. Perhaps this will hold true for other demos? Just wait and see...

And it was running on a G70 + PPE set-up. Unfortunately, Bandai have yet to use SPEs.

Oh, on topic, Sonic looks good to me.

It looks okay. However, if it plays like Sonic Adventure I have absolutely no interest.

from the gamespot article...

so it sounds like they are starting from scratch. going back to their roots is exactly what they needed to do. Hopefully sonic will be the only playable character.

Time to end this discussion:

Pretty pictures in a weird hybrid cartoon/realistic style that say fuck all about what kind of a game it will be.

The only thing I have to go off are my previous experience with 3d sonic games and SEGAs meaningless PR-speak from the articles in this thread.

The only thing I know is: I want it to be good...

Looks awesome. I was impressed with the blurry E3 video, but this takes it to a new level. I can't wait to see this in hi-res video glory.

6 days! :D

I was EXTREMELY impressed with the video shown at E3....... these pictures don't tell us very much. on their own, they're pretty damn impressive........I want more video footage STAT.

It doesn't look like Sonic though -_-

3D Sonic = Sonic Jams world / Sonic the Fighters stages / Sonic R courses / SA2's Green Hill Zone remake

Those all still look great today and should be how Sonics games look.

Actually, those don't all look good today. Not at all.

However, their concepts are sound and are in line with what we should expect. It seems as if they are going the "Sonic Adventure/X" route in terms of world design once again (Sonic characters in the real world), though. That doesn't mean it can't be fun or feature crazy level designs. If they nail the gameplay, it could be something great.

Like I said earlier in the thread, Sonic Heroes has a good, classic 'Sonic' style. The new one needs brown checkered walls, darnit!

Not assuming, but simple observation. The real time demo ran from the same box for VF5, After Burner, HOTD 4, and Sonic, with the same controller (The dude was controlling the plane in AB, and camera for the ring toss part in Sonic.

thats the first i have ever heard that afterburner was in real time. they certainly didnt say that at t he presentation i was at, nor was a controller out during it...

if sonic was demo'd on lindburgh, i'd assume it was because the hardware was 100% done. it probably bodes well for console ports from lindburgh, otherwise, why would sega waste their time building it on lindburgh? i doubt very much there is an aracdee game n developent.

Agreed. Hopefully we'll see LindBerg ports routinely across all 3 machines... splitting up their properties was Sega's single biggest mistake as a 3rd party. "Platform agnostic" should've resulted in less specific titles spread across multiple platforms to spread risk and R&D.

Knowing Nintendo, they'll probably shoot for 30 fps again. :\
Yeah, every 3D Mario so far has been 30 fps. The pace is slow enough though that it's not really hindering anything (like a 30fps Sonic would)... but man I *really* wanted Mario Sunshine @ 60fps. :/

Miyamoto even mentioned 60fps specifically when talking about Sunshine and how fluid it makes things, but they had to lock it down at 30 eventually.

It makes you go :(

I'm speechless. Our next-gen expectations have been seriously downsized by games like this. So hi-res, bloom and blur is all we need to identify a next-gen game these days? What hardware is this on because I would think the Rev could pull this off no problem.

The worst part isn't just that comment above, but the fact that both Sunshine and Mario 64 DS were first shown at 60 fps. Actually seeing them at 60 and then ending up with both at 30 was kind of a blow. I've no intention of buying Mario DS as it is, but a 60 fps version may have convinced me (I like the game, I've just over-played it).

The presenters speficially said all the "following footage" (after X360 stuff) was real time before it began.

they certainly didnt say that at t he presentation i was at, nor was a controller out during it...

I went through the presentation the total of 3 times (3rd time for the video). The thing I noticed during the second time, the F14 flew a bit differently through the canyon sequence then my first viewing, so I glanced over and saw the dude using the controller (The grey JP Saturn version).

Totally agreed. I'm just cautioning folks that the sequences on the Sonic demo might have nothing to do with the final gameplay sequences. For instance, to prove that the dmeo was indeed real, the demo switched to first person camera view and then just started to toss rings all over the place. That would make for a shitty Sonic gameplay. ;)

That's it, I'm gonna actually finish my "Sonic R: Fast and Furrious" concept...

The whole idea and appeal of Sonic...it's been forgotten by Sonic Team. And so it's up to me to make a true 3D sequel.

Who's with me?!

The colors are chosen from a more pastel palette, allowing greater subtlety to show in the lighting, than the primary colors of the classic Sonic style.

Good lord, I can't believe you just pulled out DC shots.

Man, that hasn't aged well. :( Took me a long time to actually earn all 180 emblems to unlock that level too. It was worth it back then. Very cool treat.

Based on the E3 footage, this new Sonic looks very similar to a lot of the CG we saw in SA and Sonic Heroes.

Oh man...I have the GC version of SA2 but never even got close to unlocking that level. You had to have an A rank on every emblem, didn't you? If only there was another way.
