I have an account over there but I've mainly been back here for at least a year if not longer. Everything is too crazy and over-the-top extreme on that forum. For a while the craziness was interesting in a 'slowing down to watch a car wreck' kind of way but it gets tiresome fast. GAF is a much more enjoyable place, 100% no doubt. This thread rocks, been highly entertained the last couple of days.

One poster on Era made a thread on off topic it had a decent OP with all the issues about the deal, Cerium being hush hush, the invancy of Era, the new buyers affiliation with Blizzard etc. And as expected that thread got locked instantly stating the reason why is because the announcement thread is there for that discussion. However the announcement thread has so many pages that OP was a nice summary about all the issues. And many people never click on banners with announcement. I hope more Era users keep posting these threads in both off topic and gaming sides to bring more awareness.

They do not influence gaming. What *does* influence gaming is bad press. Almost all the gaming "journalists" these days are the same ilk that frequent Era. Openly racist, bigotted, bitter assholes who hate games and gamers and want everyone to kowtow to them. So they create harassment campaigns and openly lie to get what they want.

They amplify the voices of a very cancerous minority group and try to ruin people's lives via Social Media when they don't get their way.

Another thing I've found awesome about current GAF -- is its pace. I know people want a faster pace, but I'm not so sure; back at the height of its power, GAF threads moved too fast, and it was easy for your post to get lost. Also, what happened then (which is also what happens on ERA even to this day) is that only the most obnoxious/extreme posts, or posts by the most prominent members are the ones that get all the attention. (Although there's a huge intersection between "shit posts" and "posts by prominent members" I guess). Reasonable posts get buried underneath.

With its current pace, GAF allows you to actually engage more with people, which is the whole point of a forum. Also, it allows anyone to "be the change they want to see." Want to see more retro gaming threads? Have it at. Want to talk about graphics cards? Have at it. Want to be a bit of a weirdo and post chick's asses specifically wearing jeans? Have at it too. Point is, if you persist enough, other GAFers will gravitate to -- and eventually engage with -- whatever topic it is that you want to talk about, gaming or otherwise. I have seen it happen with the video game backlog thread, a Retro gaming thread (that started as an announcement for an upscaler), and like I said, the asses thread. And in a lot of those cases a single poster -- or just a couple of posters -- have been the most active ones, but other people started coming in once they saw all the action.

Lastly, every member's opinion here is given the same weight, at least from what I've seen. There's no cult of personality around any mod or even around any "prominent" posters. Yes, some posters do still rise to prominence just because of their weird/fun/outspoken personalities, but it's just all fun and games. There's no worship or ass kissing here on GAF.

I am probably not saying this right. I don't doubt she is a racist who hates white people - it is easily implied in what she says.

I just doubted that she ACTUALLY said she wants to ban white people. You can get the implication by the general idea of what she says (like where she says that white people were insulting minorities here on GAF), but I didn't read her saying "As long as I ban white people, I'm ok".

I wanted to see her actually having that typed.

Yeah much prefer the pace of current GAF. I also like how if you have been here a while, you know a hell of a lot of the posters. Its much more group like than old GAF where there were just way too many posters.
Of course business wise its better to have tons of users, but from a user standpoint, i think current GAF is the perfect size.
