I prefer the twist ending being that they're eating breakfast, killing a hangover, sitting together in a coffee shop like an episode of Seinfeld. One reading the cover of a J K Rowling book, the other complaining about finding blue hair in his food. Both discussing whether they should go see a Dave Chapelle gig before a punch line and the credits roll.

I'm surprised people actually doubt that. We had long ago a Reera thread, were people usually printscreen all the terribles posts and bans they make in their daily basis. Full hate speech(like people asking for men to be exterminated), people ok with murder, slavery and rape as long you're white...you name it.

I am one of those mystical people.
I was here to read and write about games. I was on a french board before, but the place was moving slowly and in gaming news media NeoGAF was often cited as the source. It made me curious and after lurking for about a year I made an account.
When Resetera was founded, NeoGaf was a mess. Every thread was full of trolls that were begging to be banned. And then there were almost no one left. So I went to Restera.
It was fine for a few time, though less funny (the Nintendo Direct hype trains were hilarious on GAF). Then half the topics on gaming forum first page were about some guy on Twitter or YouTube that was racist or transphobic or something. This was annoying because I do not care about Internet drama at all. I went back here lurking but honestly almost half the threads on first page were about the best ass, the best girl, the best tits...
From that point I almost stopped posting (I'm already not posting a lot normally) and just read some news because gaming sites have terrible ergonomics.
In the last few weeks, I've been lurking more and more on Gaf and less on Era, it's actually more about industry news than chicks, I probably had bad luck that day.
I still miss those great and detailed LTTP and the insiders that were here before the hiatus, but I'm hoping GAF could restore its former glory.
If you want to ban me fine, not being able to post here is no problem for me. I mean I have a life I like and video games are just a really small part of that. So a message board about games is really unsignificant to me.
I wanted to post mainly to testify that Era members who are not into Twitter drama do exist, I can't say how much though. If you're fine with having back people like me, let's talk about games again one of those days!
P.S: do the "games beaten in XX month" or "Three in YY month" threads are still active here ? They were almost dead on Era, I loved those.

I'm sure the people who decide to move here are the people who were not okay with that style of moderation, but simply had no alternative since REra is the biggest videogame forum on the web.Hope Gaf can keep toxic Era users out of this forum...the most radicals wont come and will lurk to other places but there will be some of them that could come here..
It's going to be okay as long the rules are anti-discrimination for all people (including white) and freedom of speech as long as it's possible.
Part of me doesn't want too many people moving back here mainly because it becomes harder and harder to discuss, but that's the nature of the beast and I wish GAF all the best.
Let me be clear though: I will be really pissed if GAF gets sold for less than RE. It has to be at least 5M!

I agree with some of the posters that are saying we shouldnt jump to conclusions regarding new arrivals. I'm sure there is still a good number of users there that are just interested in gaming news and leaks and keep their heads down to not get banned for voicing a different opinion. I myself do lurk the site, its just a good source of news/leaks. I wish we would get more active users, so I wouldnt have to do that, and it has gotten better indeed, but still room to grow back.

There are a lot of normal people on era. they typically get banned. someone said how they have perma banned 50,000 people. most do tend to come back here.
A lot of destiny, battlefield, and cod parties I was in was mostly era members and their buds, and we all made fun of era during raids and games. Everyone knew that place was full of morons and we all laughed at their expense.
the problem is that if you even mentioned anything about the state of era, you would get banned immediately. So everyone kept it to themselves.

See my previous post in this thread. No one is going to ban ANYONE that also had an account at Restera. Period.
The only people we dont want back are those that did some forum meltdown trying to get banned and look cool on the way out. We know there are plenty of people who went to Restera not for politics or trans representation but to just talk about videogames, and we also know that Gaf suffered a traffic hit while Restera had a lot of traffic, so of course the discussion was more lively there.
Welcome (back) and we are glad to have anyone that follows teh rules, simple as that.

Not gonna lie, bouncing back and forth with both forums, seeing threads like that and other-like threads is odd. RE doesn't have anything like that. So it may be a strange transition with those who are coming from RE, back here to GAF and seeing something that.
Also thanks mods for understanding the situation and what people will decide here in the near future. I do agreed, there are probably some bad apples that will need to be filtered out I'm sure.

The other site was run like a cult religion, with the mods enforcing views that turned most of the people there into “yes men”, following whatever their faith had deemed to be their world view for the given month. There was serious crazy going on at the other place, and the last thing anyone here should be wanting are those mods and strict followers coming here with the view to pushing their views into Gaf again. It’s just not the place for that kind of thinking.
You can just see from the people who were banned there, just speaking one phrase out of line was enough for the mods to enforce zero tolerance on free thinking.
Just reading the thread there, you can see that the mods still are unable to see how their “we were only following rules” mantra has been all for nothing. They don’t see how they have been played, like someone in a cult whose leader has scarpered only to leave some of the zealots behind to defend for themselves. Just where is their “leader” right now, besides sitting in a large chunk of money that they are never going to see a penny of.
Like I say, the last thing needed is for an influx of that type of thinking to return here, because it’s just going to cause mayhem. Which is perhaps what some of them will be looking forward to. They have nowhere else to run to now.. they want to fit in, but with their views enforced.

What time is it?
The way the site is moderated and the curation of the user base, there is no chance for it to grow. And as "progressive" as they want to act, their heavy handed approach has led to mass exoduses of several communities and instead of learning from their mistakes, they double down each time.
On the flip side, it does give me some hope that there is a hunger for traditional forums in the video game space.
