NFL 2011 Week 17 |OT| It's Time To Shut Up, Fat Boy

I'm not giving us anything, not with Joe "Wildcard" Flacco at the helm. I hate him so much.

Also, I will now refer to Ravens-GAF as Murderers-GAF, which Deacon put out there. Sounds bad ass.
I would rather have Wildcard Flacco than gimp Ben.

Get well soon Ben. Charlies body can't hold up for more than 2 weeks so we need you ASAP!

All I know is that I can't hate too much because last year we got in and ultimately won the Super Bowl because of Desean Jackson!
:lol

At least one black person outside of the Packers that ez can like!

That got that from the San Diego paper, which is plugged in to the STL owner via the Spanos family. I actually don't mind Smith, but no way on Gruden. How many QB mistakes does that guy have to make before people realize he can't coach them? He always likes what he doesn't have. Then when he gets it, he likes something else

edit: GO COLTS!

Now you're cribbing MrBob's bit?

We've all put up with this long enough: You "switch" to the Rams this year, rationalizing your adoption of them because you are an Oklahoma fan and Sam Bradford is your local hero, yet a team of orphans would've had as many wins. You text me about trembling and jumping during TJ Yates fourth quarter comeback (he actually did) and the Texans start going down the tubes a week or two later.

It's time for you to come clean

Only reason the Falcons are going to the playoffs is because the Bears are losing nearly every starter down the stretch of the season. Wonder how Atlanta fans would feel if their team didn't get an easy street pass to a wild card slot.

Can't wait for the Falcons slighted, now motivated defense to go back to NO and give up another 35+ to the Saints!

Nah, if Bears hadn't blown up it probably would have been Bears-Falcons instead of Lions-Falcons.
And for the most part we feel fine, just getting to the playoffs by any means is a victory for this storied franchise.

There's a lot of things going on, but it's easy to just blame Raheem and Greggers so that's what I do.
This season has shit all over my hopes, like Alyssa in an FMT scat fantasy.
I've been through a lot of these kinds of seasons, it never stops hurting.
I'm sick of saying "Oh well, maybe next year."

Well at least you've already won the whole damn thing once before.

This shit isn't getting any better for us either. Turner is worn out, Gonzales has maybe another year max, our O-Line is complete garbage, and we need to draft an entire defense.
Weatherspoon and Grimes can stay, I guess.

Things look pretty grim.

Just wanted to add that I think it's a weak class for prototype 3-4 backers, looks a lot better for 4-3 teams. I'm sure many teams felt that Bowman and Lee couldn't play in a 3-4 do to size issues but that hasn't been the case, so you should take that into consideration as well.

Not sure anyone but Upshaw fits the scheme, the rest are pretty small. Like Kuechly but he may be on the small side. Some feel Upshaw is a better 3-4 ILB prospect than a 3-4 OLB, he can't run and cover though, 2 down backer if so.

Best fit would be Hightower, but he's not the player he was before the knee injury. Guy looked so explosive, he's gained size though. More of a second round pick I think.

Brown looks good at times, sloppy tackler, but he's small for a 3-4 ILB, only 220 or so, he can run though.

Haven't watched much of Burfict, did watch the bowl game but he was benched for the first quarter. When he did get reps he dogged it, wasn't even trying to shed, Martin made him look like a fool in the redone. Guy was riding the pine for most of the night, he was in the dog house.

I think it's a pretty weak class, but the Steelers never miss in the first. I'm no expert either, just observations, and some sample sizes are bigger than others, I've seen Upshaw and Hightower a lot.

Thanks for the info.

I doubt the Steelers would even go backer in the first - this seems like an O-Line class and even then most of the good talent will be gone by the time the playoff teams pick.

I just don't know what the Steelers plan to do with this linebacker problem. Their depth in the middle is ridiculously old and/or slow.

Steelers like converting 4-3 Defensive Ends into 3-4 Linebackers depending on talent, for what it's worth. Usually they only do it with projects though, like Woodley (successful) and Worilds (pending).

Funny, because I remember a certain Bears fan or two in this thread who was talking shit about the Falcons 6 weeks or so ago and saying how the Bears were still going to make the playoffs despite their injuries.

Nice to see that sour grapes can remain consistent.

Eh I dunno. Maybe your OC doesn't call the right shit for the players you have available. Cowardly is still decent QB, Jones has the talent to be a beast, Turner could still be effective as a second back. You're going to win 10 games this season. Shore up your lines and you're still right there.

No, because Wildcard's ceiling is 250 yds and 2 TDs, which he's good for every once in a while, and never on the road. Ben's ceiling is 400 yds and 4 TDs, or at minimum, a shitty game, and a late winning drive......FLASHBACK FLASHBACK NO NO NO!

He really doesn't. I think this season shows it more than any other.

I may hate Peyton's guts, but I respect him as a play caller. He knows how to use make the best use of the weapons he has.

I was just comparing unibrow to Ben on one leg (who is horrible). Analysts are retarded as we all know and like to make the assumption that the main reason Ben is successful is because he is as strong as an ox and can extend plays. That is a big reason for his success but the main reason he is good is because he is really accurate throwing the football (the main criteria you have to judge a qb on). When he could not throw the ball accurately against the Niners he looked like every other shit qb in the league.

If healthy no one on Earth would take Flacco over Ben. Even Flacco's mother would make that trade.

Our OC is mostly a moron but the lines are the real problem on this team, on both sides of the ball.
O-line can't buy time and have forgotten how to set up the run, not even athletic enough to run a screen
D-line can't get pressure to save their life.

I'm amazed at the time Brees has to throw the ball.
People really complain about our secondary (myself included) but when you can't get pressure and give guys that long to throw, you are gonna get shredded.

10 wins and a playoff appearance? Blow it up and start over.

We've got 9 and we are very lucky to have that many.

Ratings equal relevancy. Every year a game involving the Eagles, Giants, or Cowboys is either the highest rated that year and sometimes even highest rated "ever".

What are you a fan of? Why so jelly?

No, ratings = money. Just because you have high populations densities to get ratings doesn't mean your teams are any good.

I probably don't remember this correctly, but weren't the Giants fans on this board kind of irked with drafting JPP?
I understood why fans were irked considering some of the needs as Wellie noted but I wasn't one of them. Folks didn't see it as a "need" but there was a very real possibility that Kiwi wasn't going to be resigned and with Osi continuing to bleed from his vagina every offseason as well - the team could have found itself very thin on the defensive line all of a sudden. There were other supposed "sure fire" rushers in the draft rated better than JPP but I trusted Reese on the pick. If the Giants do anything extremely well - it's draft pass rushing defensive lineman.

The East is one of the most successful divisions in football. The division has 19 NFC wins and 11 Super Bowl victories, the most of any division in the NFL. This year will be the first time since the 60's the division sends a team to the playoffs with less than 10 wins. There's a reason it gets the attention it does, even in a down year like this one.

Also as mentioned, even when less than stellar NFC East teams play it pulls in huge ratings and like you said money. The NFL isn't a charity service last I checked.

Do Pro Bowl rosters get announced tonight? Just read this Rich Gosselin (Dallas writer) nugget on the farce that is Tony Romo if he makes it over Stafford:

Statistically, it’s no comparison. Stafford has already thrown for more yards (4,518) than Romo has in any season of his career, and he has matched Romo’s best season for TD passes (36) with one game remaining. There’s certainly no shame in Romo’s numbers this season; he has passed for 3,895 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Seriously, nobody has parlayed the hype from the first 5 games of his career like Romo, it's mind boggling.

Pro Bowl rosters will be announced tonight on NFL Network at 7pm ET.

Welp she wasn't there or on break and her coworkers lied to me incase I was a serial killer... so I'm slightly less of a puss for trying. Should've asked her before but always hesitant about chatting ppl up on their job....

Never wait too long to ask someone out. It is always better to ask early in the relationship before she finds out that you are a Packer fans and gets to know you.

Uhmm, thats because Stafford throws the ball a lot more than Romo does, 605 attempts for Stafford and 485 for Romo. Romo has a higher yards/attempt than Stafford (8.0 vs 7.5) the same td%( 6% of passes) and a lower int %( 1.9 vs 2.3). This is reflected in their QB Rating, 102.2 for Romo and 96.6 for Stafford this year. I can see that why some would pick Stafford over Romo but calling it a farce? Really?

Ravens that should be in:

RB: Ray Rice
G: Ben Grubbs
G: Marshall Yanda (at least one should make it)
DE: Terrell Suggs (LOCK)
DT: Haloti Ngata (LOCK)
LB: Ray Lewis (Legacy nod)
FS: Ed Reed (Legacy nod)
P: Sam Koch

Should not make it but might:

T: Michael Oher (FUCK BLINDSIDE)

Should not even be on the ballot:

QB: Joe "Wildcard" Flacco

I loved the tweet from Oher saying that everytime blindside is on tv, ray Lewis messages him. Said one might ray told him it was on in Spanish, then like 20min later that it was coming on in English.

I believe in you.
Thanks bro.

She knows. That's what gave me a boner about her in the first place.

I bought a hat with Green Bay colors and she asked me if I was a fan (an anomaly because I don't live n fucking Wisconsin).
Anyway we chatted for awhile but my uncle was there breathing down my neck and I had to go pick up my car so my peanut Packer brain couldn't process all the information quickly.

Went back, but alas it was too late.

After Gruden's NFL departure he went down to the University of Florida for the annual Urban Meyer circle jerk, attended yearly by the great Bill Belichick. Members of the club attend clinics given by various participants. Gruden gave his presentation, and according to the great Belichick it was one of the best ever.

He may still have it, may not, but it will be fascinating to have him back. Interested in seeing if he's as mindfucked as I think he may be.

Edit: the gbnreport.com is a good source for updated draft rankings, updated very frequently.

Don't doubt his Xs and Os at all. He just never could handle the QB situation properly. He was always changing guys in and out. Listening to him on the MNF broadcast where he was running down Bradford . . . who gives up on a #1 after two seasons of bad but not awful play? That team has no talent and will take someone willing to build and lose and live with rookies for the next couple of years.

Gruden needs to go somewhere that has decent talent in place but lacks a good coach. Miami seems like a good spot, but he'd start bailing on Matt Moore the second he got there

Will you do the championship belt dance if she says yes? This is of course if she hasn't reported you for stalking her and you get another shot.

Thanks bro.

I am old and the game has passed me by now, but I never remember being turned onto or off of a girl because she was a fan of the same team as I was (or a team I hated).

I might have made a single exception if the chick was into Brady or Jordan. A guy has to have standards and that is just disgusting. But no matter how repugnant I find Packer fans or Rodgers I would not have given a shit if the chick was hot even if she was some stupid bandwagon fan. In fact it is probably better because watching the game is something you want to do with the boys. And fucking is something you want to do with your girlfriend. From what little I know only FMT has ever tried to combine the two.

From probowl to...

Fucking amazing.

Holy shit! That is absolutely insane.

Well I guess being a fan of the team is more of an initial ice break as opposed to a selling point.

My ex used to watch games with me occasionally, but every time she did it would result in a loss. So fuck that noise, my boys and beer is all i need now.

From probowl to...

Fucking amazing.

So sad. I still haven't lost my hope, and maybe he'll bounce back, but he definitely sucked this year. I don't get it, though, it's not like everything around him changed, and there were no reports of bad work ethic as far as I remember.

Same. I recently broke up with my girlfriend, for unrelated issues. Of all things, though, she was a Bills fan. I was watching the draft with a roommate this year when she texted me and asked what I was doing. I told her and she asked me what I thought about Marcell Dareus. Blew my mind. A Bills fan in Michigan. I can understand not being a Lions fan, but a Bills fan? (I later found out she is from that area)

Also, you got this Bucket. Confidence brotha

I don't care what the excuse is. They should be smart enough to not start him. He's easily the biggest reason the secondary is so bad. You into the season from " Bodden and DMC off his rookie year should be solid " to injured CB and historically bad CB. I do think Sergio Brown is worse than DMC but that's not like some ringing endorsement.

So I was reading about Brees' breaking the record, and I noticed the guy has 622 passing attempts on the year already. Are you shitting me? Outside of Matt Stafford that's like 70 more than the next highest guy, with a whole other game left!

With that average, he'll finish with 664 pass attempts on the season, which I think is only about 30 or so off of the most ever in a season. Marino finished with 564, a crazy 100 less attempts. Nevermind the different rules in today's NFL or that Marino played a fraction of his games in '84 in a dome, that many more attempts and you damn well better break the record. His YPA is almost a full yard less. I'm feeling less impressed about this than I was yesterday.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/victor_hoping_to_cruz_to_hawaii_kj81g5jelTce2gPEQDU4hO

Victor Cruz has beaten the odds plenty of times already in his young Giants career.

Big Blue’s rising-star wide receiver will find out if he did that one more time tonight when results of the NFL’s Pro Bowl voting are announced.

Cruz is having a season more than worthy of a trip to Hawaii, with the former undrafted free agent ranking third in the NFL in receiving yards (1,358) and sixth among wide receivers in catches (76), but he faces an uphill climb because the Giants were unable to get his name on the fan ballot.

Cruz still has a chance to make the Pro Bowl because the separate fan, player and coach voting all count evenly toward a roster spot, but he will need a huge push from his NFC peers and coaches to get there.

Fucking Giants nominated scumbag OSI over JPP.....sheeeesh...

Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul — who ranks fourth in the NFL with 15 1/2 sacks — is in a similar position to Cruz. The team could only nominate two players at Pierre-Paul’s position by the Oct. 25 deadline, and veterans Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora got the nod instead.

With the 8-7 Giants preparing for a do-or-die regular-season finale with the Cowboys on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium, Cruz said yesterday the Pro Bowl was the last thing on his mind.

“It’s just one of those things — if it happens, it’s a blessing, and if not, it’s just something to aspire to in the next years,” Cruz said. “It’s always been a goal. It’s one of those things [where] you watch the Pro Bowl as a kid every year and you watch those great guys go out there. Hopefully, if my name’s called, it will be amazing. If not, I’ll just look forward to the next year.”

Unfortunately for Cruz, whose three receptions for 164 yards in the Giants’ 29-14 win over the Jets last Saturday included a team-record, 99-yard TD, players and coaches can vote for only players in their own conference.

“If [Rex Ryan] had a vote, I think I’d have that one,” Cruz said.

If only we knew then that based Hanie would possibly be the worst QB in the NFL ever. Or how Barber would have one of the worst end game melt downs in the history of the NFL (PRAISE TEBOW). So many weeks of torture watching that type of ball will break anyone's spirit.

The silver lining is this whole late season melt down is going to force the team to go into beast mode this off season in acquiring talent.

I'M BACK BITCHES!

Last week of the regular season, I'm hyped. THIS IS OUR SUPER BOWL
'Cuz we ain't gonna reach the real Super Bowl any time soon.

About Brees, yes he was selfish last night. He padded his stats, he rubbed it in, he was a unsportsmanlike jerk. But guess what Falcons, if you don't want him to do it: SHUT UP AND STOP HIM, YOU BITCHES. Don't give me that "against the spirit of the game" bullshit, it's a flawed argument in college and it's even weaker when you're paid to play EVERY DOWN. As distasteful as it was, Brees and Payton had every right to go for the record like that.

And they needed to get it last night, because we're going to blow up that bite-sized punk this week.

“No man, it’s our job to stop them,” said linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, who missed New Orleans running back Darren Sproles on the record-setting play. “I can’t say I’m upset by them running up the score or anything like that when I had a chance to make a play.”

Said wide receiver Roddy White: “We didn’t make plays. We had to make plays, stop them and do our job, not worry about what they’re doing. Now, in a couple of weeks if we have to come back here, I might feel different. [But] not now.”

Spoon and Roddy have the right attitude about it.

Speaking with confidence that Raheem Morris will coach his last game as a Buccaneer on Sunday, Tampa Tribune beat writer eye-RAH! Kaufman dared to speak for Team Glazer during a radio interview this afternoon.

Kaufman told Rock Riley on WDAE-AM 620 that Team Glazer wants Raheem to return but they just can’t do it.

“At this point, [the Glazers] feel their hand is forced,” Kaufman said. “They’re not competitive. They’re the worst team in football right now. Nobody can argue that.”

Kaufman went on to say that the notion that Team Glazer won’t invest heavily in a new coach is ludicrous, citing their track record, including paying Chucky’s massive salary for the last three seasons while he plays talking head. “It’s not so easy to say cheap, cheap, cheap, they won’t spend,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman said he believes Team Glazer will target a high-profile guy to be the Bucs next head coach and Mark Dominik could become a “casualty of war” if they hired a guy like Bill Cowher that might want complete control.

I'm sorry Mark. I love you and your great drafts, but if Cowher wants you gone, Cowher wants you gone. :(

The numbers simply aren't comparable. I don't think it's a terribly impressive number (it won't stand a season) but it is an important number. It's basically a watershed moment. 5,000 yards passing will soon be the new 1,000 yards rushing. There is only one way to win in today's NFL. Throw the ball without turning it over. Every once in awhile you can gring out a victory if the passing team just isn't in it or is having an off day, but in general, you throw to win, run to kill clock.

Pac-10 football. Vomit.

The silver lining is this whole late season melt down is going to force the team to go into beast mode this off season in acquiring talent.

Also it has shown what a cowardly bandwagon fan you are, which is nice. Everyone in the MLB thread already knew it, good to see your true colors shining through in the NFL thread as well.

When Oregon starts racking up 100 points on Bucky are you going to switch to a Ducks avatar on Monday?
