Stupid Fumbles

You would think Jitters of Week 1 would leave the Special Teams

Seriously, DEN digs hole then tries to catch up

Never said they should, I just think it's an utter cop out for Reid to use him as a scapegoat in this situation when there are some major offensive issues at play. I think Legendary was a bit more lucid in what I was trying to get across and I agree with him. It was Reid's decision to entrust him the defense and it was his decision to keep him around after the 8-8 season in 2011 and now when things are going poorly the result is questions about Castillo's playcalling making the headlines.

Now to be fair, I happen to have a higher opinion of Andy than most Eagles fans and I do believe that he will examine all facets of his football team during the bye including the offense (despite my disliking of the Juan situation) but in so far as the whole of the team is concerned - the defense has been more of a strength than a weakness in the overall scheme of the Eagles triangle and in the games I've watched (and I've watched them all). There have been failures no doubt and maybe I'm being softer on them than I should but again, it's tough to put your defense on the field and ask it to hold after 17 turnovers in 6 games.

I mean not only is it a question of field position but we're talking major momentum shifts you have to overcome.

For Reid to throw Castillo under the bus is low. I didn't hear he did that but if he did, fuck the fat man. Again Castillo is a victim of circumstance here. He got the opportunity to advance in his own career to take over the D. Of course he won't turn it down. How or why he was one of their top choices is the real question here.

And yes the D has played better this season but they have completely lacked in forcing turnovers and the sacks they thrived on last year. Now sacks and turnovers aren't everything but it does hurt overall when they can't get off the field late in games.

Vick has put the D in terrible situations but surprisingly Vick's turnovers have mostly come early. In all their games the Eagles offense has had to make a rally in the 2nd half to get the lead. The real troubling part is that the D has folded after Vick provides them a lead. i already pointed it out but back to back games they had the lead in the fourth and the D never got off the field. It ties into the offense because the pass happy game plan never chews up any clock and puts the D right back onto the field after a three and out.

I get that but giving up leads is now becoming a characteristic of the D. Sevens times now they have blown a lead in the fourth quarter. Vick and offense aren't off the hook but sadly enough blame to go around. How Bobby April is still coaching Special Teams is also a mystery to me.
