NFL players are amazing athletes

I don't think I've ever watched an NFL game in my life. Why did that one guy run head-first into the other guy's ass and let the other team run like 20+ yards unobstructed to get a touchdown?

Anyone got a link to GAF reactions to that live when that Jets thing happened?

because he's definitely a bottom 5 QB and apparently likes to drink before games

I still wanna know how he did it.

I don't think I've ever seen you in the NFL thread. Why don't you take a peek in there, too few Bengals fans.

Also, good thing there's no "Football" in the title, so this hasn't turned into a shitfest yet :-D

yeah, i've been away from GAF for years but have recently been lurking and noticed the weekly NFL threads are as busy as ever, not to mention a great way to get a run down of all the 1 o clock games while I watch the Bengals. The up to the minute the gifs are awesome too.

What happens if a fumble goes out of bounds actually? Since there are no throwins in football?

From Wiki:

-A fumble going out-of-bounds between the endzones is retained by the last team with possession (in Canadian football, the last team to touch the ball). If the ball was moving backwards with regard to the recovering team, it is spotted where it went out of bounds. If the ball was moving forwards, it is spotted where the fumble occurred (the fumble itself cannot advance the ball).

-A fumble going out-of-bounds in the endzone being attacked results in the defending team assuming possession via touchback if the offensive team forced the ball into the endzone. If the defensive team forced the ball into the endzone it is a safety for the offense.

-A fumble going out-of-bounds in the endzone being defended is ruled a safety if the offensive team forced the ball into the endzone.

-A fumble going out-of-bounds in the endzone being defended is ruled a touchback if the defensive team forced the ball into the endzone. The ball is turned over to the defensive team.

The team that had possession last keeps the ball. (possession can change multiple times during a play via interceptions/fumbles, though that's fairly rare)

In the Cards game, the Atlanta player fumbled, so if it had gone out of bounds it would've stayed Falcons ball.

I don't get it. Did he run to the wrong side or something? (I know nothing about football.)

It looked like a botched play. He went to hand off to the runningback (guy behind him), but then saw he wasn't there so he ran it himself, but ran into his own guy. That part is unexplainable. He's just a terrible player. There's no way you can not see a 300+ lbs guy right in front of your face.

Do you have to be American to understand what's going on.. ?

I've only started watching the NFL this season (apart from the superbowl this past year), once you've watched a few games you learn the basics of the sport and what it's about. I have to say, so far I'm loving it, some of the games have been amazing to watch this year.
