Jayson Megna has been sent back to Hartford. Guess he really was here just as an emergency option last night.

You forgot Devils fan A-number-1 Pikma!

Anyway, we might or might not get some clarity on the Kevin Klein situation today. All we know right now is that it's an abdominal muscle strain. If it's any worse than that, we'd almost certainly need to call up a defenseman (especially since our Western Canada trip is next week), which would also probably mean Stepan would need to go on LTIR if he's not already in order to fit under the cap. The other question would be who would make the jump up to the big team if Klein can't go. The obvious answer would be Raphael Diaz, but he's currently injured as well. Makes me think Brady Skjei would likely be next in line, though it seems pretty early to have him in the NHL.

And in other news, Rangers-Islanders tomorrow night kicks off a big week of New York vs. New York grudge matches. All of the active NY sports teams will play each other in the same week for the first time since 1988.

Wednesday - Rangers vs. Islanders
Friday - Nets vs. Knicks
Sunday - Jets vs. Giants

It would be a little more epic if the basketball teams didn't suck ass.
Stephan hasn't been your #1 center? Is Brassard your #1? Do you finally have someone who can win faceoffs or why the move?

How high do you have to be to hit publish after typing that? He listed 6 reasons why it would never happen.

Stepan is our "#1" center while Brassard is our "first line" center. If that makes any sense. Derek Stepan's vision is tops, and his hockey IQ is phenomenal. You can actually see how much stupider the decision making is across the whole team with Stepan gone. It's kind of amazing, actually. He's also excellent defensively and is a top penalty killer. Basically, he's all-around the most important center on the team. He only plays on the second line because his chemistry has been the best with Kreider over the last couple of seasons and...

Brass plays the first line because that trio meshes the absolute best, and Brassard and Zuccarello are almost inseparable. Like suspicious levels of bromance there. Brassard is also greatly improved at the faceoff dot this year, making him the best faceoff man outside of the 4th line. He's also a key playmaker on the power play. Only Keith Yandle has more power play points on the team this season than Derick Brassard.

Dominic Moore, Jarret Stoll, and Derick Brassard can all win faceoffs. Kevin Hayes very much cannot (33% while spending most of the season as third line center, which is pretty much THE primary reason why the Rangers are still a sub-50% faceoff team). Oscar Lindberg and Derek Stepan are meh to bad at the dot.

Yeah, I remember Stepan being your best but your faceoffs always sucked so I thought someone was finally at least competent (I think most were under 50% in wins last year). So does the first 2 lines play pretty much equal minutes then? That makes sense with chemistry since line juggling didn't seem to help much in the past and the kids playing together were always good.

I just saw the post refer to Stepan as "second center" or "second line center" or something and didn't realize he wasn't the top line anymore.

You know, I actually wasn't too sure about ice time, so I had to check. In general AV likes to roll 4 lines consistently, so in theory they should be pretty well balanced. He's had to shorten his bench a bunch over the last few weeks, though, and the second and third lines have been a pretty constant juggling act outside of Kreider-Stepan, so it's not as balanced as it should be.

The Rangers' top forwards in TOI this year:

1) Mats Zuccarello - 17:55
2) Derick Brassard - 17:18
3) Rick Nash - 17:03
4) Derek Stepan - 16:47
5) Chris Kreider - 15:53
6) Dominic Moore - 14:21
7) Jesper Fast - 14:03
and so on...

So yeah, Stepan plays minutes very close to the top line.

:lol Ricky Nash

And wow, I knew you rolled 4 lines but not with that consistency. Interesting.

Edit: Holy shit he has 8 goals now?!?!?

6 goals in the last 6 games. Nash is pretty much the definition of streaky.

In the meantime, the Rangers have an optional practice today and have added a practice dummy named Rubber Man to the proceedings.

Needless to say, Chris Kreider immediately tried to fight it.

Haha I'm surprised my coworker hasn't texted me. I saw her had 3 in the last 3 in the recent games box. That's unreal he's on that streak after the previous streak.

They won a game against a last place team.
Pretty much what I said when we won. Still, it was nice of the team to rally around a rookie goalie the first game and help him get a shut out nonetheless.

The only thing we helped is putting more Oil in the tank.

Make sure y'all vote for Subban for the All Star Game.

I voted for Pacioretty and Larkin out of the Atlantic. Zuccarello and Lundqvist (but mostly Zuccarello) out of the Metro. (Who the fuck is voting for Sidney Crosby when he's been dogshit this season, by the way?) A combo of Benn, Seguin, Kane, and Tarasenko in the Central. And Hanzal, Domi, and OEL out of the Pacific, because AROOOOOOOOO.

don't vote for Pacioretty, there won't be any empty nets to score in

Lupul on injured reserve

welp

oh fuck off, they called Clune up again. #FreeArcobello
It begins...!
God dammit. So it starts....

Also unrelated but I hate shopping in stores this time of year. Pain in the ass.
IT BEGINS....!!!

Arcobello would have to pass through waivers again when we send him down and he may get taken this time. Ain't nobody gonna take Clune.

He would need to play 10 games for that right? Can just have him play 9 games and send him down if Lupul is still not back by then.

Alternatively, get rid of fucking Spaling

I finally saw Spectre last night. Action sequences were amazing, some great set pieces, choreography, and camera work (that one-shot at the beginning), even if the plot was a little bare bones.

Not sure if I'd say it's better than Skyfall or Casino Royale. I think Skyfall had a better villain (Waltz was a little too mustache-twirly) and Casino Royale had a smaller scale to focus on the main characters.
