From what I've seen of Gardiner he doesn't look anywhere as defensively sound as a 1D should look like.... or will look like.

Runs fine here. 57 fps on average on ultra with:

2500k
GTX 780
8GB Ram

No issues so far except the game crashed the first time I loaded it up and went to change graphics settings.

I don't mean performance wise, but keyboard/UI wise? Not sure

I haven't had a problem with the UI but it is a little strange having to hold down the mouse button to attack. Think the alternative is holding down the right trigger on a controller. It's probably that when you use a controller on PC it's a pain in the ass because it disables the keyboard completely when it's enabled and you can only disable it from the main menu which means backing out of the game.
