The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Are You Afraid of the Dark? Salute Your Shorts. You Can't Do That on Television! All of these classic Nickelodeon series from the early days of the cable channel are much wanted on DVD by their fans. But high on the list is the show that made Melissa Joan Hart a star: Clarissa Explains It All. And now Clarissa's first season - all 13 episodes - has been announced for a May 17th release that launches a new line of Nick DVDs: The Rewind Collection.

Clarissa Explains It All was a classic Nickelodeon sitcom that ran for 5 seasons and produced 65 episodes, beginning in 1991. Clarissa, as some preferred to call it, featured plot lines that teenagers can relate to. Clarissa's family members were her annoying little brother (Ferguson), her health nut mom (Janet), and her architect dad (Marshall). Her next door neighbor, Sam, was always welcome in her room. In fact, he used a ladder to climb through her window at any time he pleased. Clarissa also had, for a short time, a pet alligator named Elvis.

The series aired on Nickelodeon in the United States as part of their SNICK line-up from 1991-1994, lasting for 5 seasons (and continuing on in reruns for years). In 1994, the series received an Emmy nomination for 'Outstanding Children's Program'. In addition, Melissa Joan Hart, Sean O'Neal, and Jason Zimbler also received multiple Young Artist Award nominations. Melissa won 3 for her role as Clarissa.

The Clarissa Explains It All - Season 1 compilation in May will be on 2 DVDs, and run 328 minutes for 13 episodes. Paramount Home Entertainment will distribute this title. If this set is successful, we hope it will lead to further "Rewind Collection" releases for many of the other Nick shows named above. Stay tuned, and we'll let you know.

Pete & Pete finally on DVD? About fucking time!

YES!

Early 90's Nickelodeon was the best shit ever. They better not forget about Round House!

uh, no, the article just kind of wishes and hints about it.

yeah, but at least shit is in motion.

Screw all those mentioned, while enjoyable shows, the only show I really care about is Doug. Now that's a show(not the crappy ABC version).

No Hey Dude love? I always liked that Afraid of the Dark ep where it was the pinball game in the mall, but I doubt that was in the first season.

Im dying for a trip back to Camp Annawuanna (sp?)

Salute Your Shorts and YCDTOT would be the greatest things EVVVARRRRR!

ARGHGLE GOD DAMNIT.

I was gonna get the DVD collection for a family member's bday anyway. Now I have to do it the legal way.

But at least it's finally coming out on DVD. THE ADVENTURES OF PETE & PETE, WOOOO!!! Better have some NICE extras, like specials and shorts.

And You Can't Do that on Television!? Damn. That's an oldie. Their only show from the 70s I've seen.

YCDTOTV is from the 80s. And a damn fine TV program if ever I've seen one -- if *incredibly* repetitive. Oh look -- Barth's wiping his nose with burger buns again! Why do the kids keep eating there... oh you kids!!! *wermp wermp*

wait just a minute, there is only an implication that Pete and Pete will be comming. there is nothing stating that it is in fact comming. I just don't want to get my hopes up for nothing.

I have no idea which season it's from but that's the only Are You Afraid of the Dark I can remember clearly.

Dude the Round House owned all! It's all about the Paula Abdul Jabbar skit. And move aside Meatloaf, it's vegetarian loaf, "And I will do anything for love, but I won;t eat meat!" :lol

Meh. Nick sucked in the 90s. Sure, it was gold compared to whatever the network is today, but Nickelodeon was best in the early-mid 80's.

I'm talking about shows like Danger Mouse

Inspector Gadget

And of course, You Can't Do That On Television

Other notables include Dennis the Menace(Live action and animated), Mr. Ed, Flipper, Mr Wizard's World, The Electric Company, The World of David the Gnome, The Adventures of The Little Prince, Maya the Bee, Grimm's Fairy Tales, Spartakus and the Sun Beaneath the Sea, Mapletown, Lassie, Bananaman, and Today's Special.

The two shows from Nick that stand out in the 90s for me were Count Duckula and Ren & Stimpy.

WOW! Those show are what bring a smile to my face when I think about my younger days. Shit, you may be on to something with 80's nick > 90's nick.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Eureka's castle. That might have been very early nineties, though. I can remember the funny puppets you could buy from Pizza Hut.

My thoughts EXACTLY(well not exactly, i'd get clarissa, YCDTOT, P&P(never really paid attention the first time around), and most definitely Salute your shorts...but damnnnit, i NEED CLASSIC DOUG ON DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

This is cool, but Clarissa is an odd choice to start the Rewind series. Salute Your Shorts would be a great set, though.

Also, getting You Can't Do That on Television would be a bit more difficult. That show was never actually owned or produced by Nickelodeon, it was made (and is still owned by) Carleton Productions in Canada; Nick just happened to air it. I've heard off and on rumors that things have never been too friendly between the two, mostly stemming from Nickelodeon completely, shamelessly co-opting YCDTOTV's trademark slime as their own. A few years ago, Nickelodeon did manage to secure one or two episodes to air for their 20th anniversary special. Both had Alanis.

But, you know, rumors. I'd be happy as all hell if that show got put on DVD. Mmm. Blue skies, Barthy burgers, my childhood on DVD...

I'm in the same boat as MIMIC on Welcome Freshman, though I think I remember a bit more than he does.
In the opening credits, wasn't there a smart, black haired jew kid who got dunked in the basketball goal?

And Heathcliff and Inspector Gadget were on DVD if you bought Reeses Puffs cereal a couple months ago

Cool. I just wonder what's taken Nickelodeon so long to do this. They've got a goldmine on there hands with these old shows, especially since they don't repeat them any more. I'm glad it's only 2 discs, but I hope the quality doesn't suffer. Then again I picked up the Eerie Indiana complete series which is 19 eps. on 5 discs and the quality isn't all that great.

I don't think Nickelodeon even has the rights to like half the shows you guys are requesting.

Does Pete & Pete still get reruns on Noggin or Trio or wherever it used to run?

Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Bananaman, Heathcliff, and Inspector Gadget are not owned by Nickelodeon or Viacom.

DiC Entertainment owns Heathcliff and Inspector Gadget. Cosgrove/Hall owns Count Duckula and Danger Mouse. I have no idea who owns Bananaman, but it's available on amazon.co.uk:

You can't do that on television isnt owned by nickelodeon

Oh... IMDB has it starting in 1979.

I hope Pete & Pete comes to DVD. It's one of the few kids shows ever created that anyone with an imagination can enjoy. God, just thinking about it is a huge nostalgia trip. I can even remember what the room (I was watching it in) was like on one weekend.

it's definately 80's...Sad as it may be the only thing I recall vividly about my trip to the hospital when I broke my arm was a Eureeka's Castle coloring book, and that was in 1987.
