EBW/white man - you ain't gonna change anyone's opinions of a band just by bagging them and suggesting some unrelated alternatives :p

When did I ever suggest an alternative? I'm pretty certain nobody here would be interested in most of the stuff I listen to. I just do the bagging part of the equation.

Two things I don't understand about this thread:

1. Why did anyone bring up Radiohead? Yeah, they're great, why are we talking about how many albums they've sold? :lol

2. How can anyone possibly think that albums like The Downward Spiral and The Fragile are similar to any rock music of the 90s? Are you fucking retarded or something? Seriously.

how the fuck did radiohead manage to pollute this thread?

Anyways back on topic the one problem i have had with both billy and trent is that sometimes their songs sound a bit overproduced and lose the rawness.

Ween, The Wrens, Hot Snakes. You could probably take my top 10.

To say that Radiohead isn't "mainstream" is pretty much ludicrous.
Read julls' post, ok? No need to explain it again.

Just because Radiohead is more popular than Ween, The Wrens and Hot Snakes does not mean they are god's gift to rock music.

i'm not sure actually - i think it was diablos, strangely.. or maybe enjoy bell woods, somehow he pushed mercury rev into the discussion, after it had already been pushed into being about billy corgan (again)

I like some of the Downward Spiral. It's as bloated as a 300 lb corpse floating down a sewer flooded by crisco, but there's maybe a half hour of good material there.

I'm not saying he's not a competent studio engineer, I'm saying that he's not a studio genius.

That's something Trent wanted to be different on With Teeth.

NO SOUP FOR WHITE MAN

edit: I didn't push this into being about el Corgano. In fact, I said a somewhat degrading thing about the Pumpkins - their shows weren't always that consistant in terms of rocking the fuck out or being sloppy.

This grows BORING.

How about this, Diablos: You, julls, and Sullichin vs me, EBW, and Lambtron at basketball.

EDIT:

At least you're not an Apple or Nintendo fanboy. You could be much worse than you currently are.

What's wrong with old U2? I think they're great. Corgan said they ripped off Echo and the Bunnymen. Is this true? I've never heard the band. Either way, I <3 U2.

Ohhhh, you! <3 <3 <3

Also, multiple people in the car would enjoy Xiu Xiu, so that's out.

Hmmm, I DO have these Yoko Ono solo albums I picked up cheap. I'd be willing to burn these and inflict them on people.

U2. Bono. If I put a contact mic on my ass and recorded myself shitting after eating Chinese buffet, I would put out a better album than anything U2 could ever hope to record.

Yeah, well. I rule. Do yr worst. Nothing can compare to having to sit through 45 minutes of Dashboard Confessional opening for Beck while being serenaded by a bunch of jocks screaming along with the lyrics. :(

Xiu Xiu just freaks me the fuck out. I don't know.

Jamie Stewart is the nicest, most approachable guy ever. You'd never know that someone that wrote the lyrics H-I-V A-I-D-S I CAN NOT WAIT TO DIE CAN'T YOU TELL CAN'T YOU TELL CAN'T YOU TELL is a nice guy. I'd let him fuck my daughter.

EDIT: One of the stories from his book: When he was in IBOPA, major labels were lightly courting the band, although they were turned off by the direction of the band's lyrics. Jamie Stewart felt legitimately bad about having to say he wouldn't change his lyrics to one A&R flunky, so he offered to give him a blowjob. And in the end, Jamie ends up giving him a blowjob with his teeth knocked out, and later Jamie's girlfriend calls while he's having sex with the A&R dude.

Yeah, well, Jamie Stewart is weird.

You don't have a daughter. :lol :lol

U2 has a nice set of influences, but their music is crud. Brian Eno's greatest achievement is making that malarkey palpable.

Earnest vocal delivery and a cheesey, Steinman-style orchestral sweep does not make for good music. A pity that the Edge's talent is wasted with a bonehead like Bono.

Where's Bono's Mark David Chapman, America?

EDIT: Wait, were you talking about SOAD? They're not bad. U2 still sucks.

i'm sure his intentions are good - but bono acts like a fucking messiah. i can't stand to watch him
