Ninja Gaiden 1 is painful

But still lotsa fun to play:) Maybe the story ain't so hot, but the simplistic gameplay & original characters are timeless (ZOMG Irene doesn't look like a slut).

Complaints? The last stage is an definite exercise in frustration, and it doesn't help that, glitch or not, you have to restart that gauntlet if you lose to the boss :(

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden is pretty hard-core, like the original Castlevania. I don't have the patience (or time) like I did back when I was a kid playing these games, so realtime save has probably saved me from destroying stuff in my house more than a few times. :)

I love the series, though... I'm glad Tecmo went with the platforming formula for the NES series instead of making it more of a Final Fight-type game like the arcade.

Are you going to continue on with 2 and 3? :)

Ya, losing against the last boss and going ALL THE WAY back to where you were 15 min ago was BS.

The game was pretty much easy from the beginning, to the final act....That green looking stage, with platforms up high on the screen with nowhere to land...is a fucking bitch, knowing the birds come at you like cheating fucks.

How true.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is still my fav all time NG game =] Insane level design and a cool story, with some damn fine graphics and music for a NES game. The original 3 were such a great series, I would love to see an Xbox NG that goes back more towards the series platforming roots.

I agree with the NGII sentiment.

I beat the game many times, and one day, I beat the game under THREE hours. :) :D

Red ninja clone buddies are what truly made that game great

And no matter how many times you kill them, if you accidentally scroll even less than an step back they respawn.

Fucking NG birds, and bats too, even though the bats have a straight pattern and don't follow you.

Did you know that Masato Kato, the story planner of Chrono Trigger/FFXI and director of Chrono Cross worked on all three NES Ninja Gaiden games (as graphic designer, story/cutscene director and level designer respectively)?

Normal, is that a bad thing?

*Nods* :(

Get Black.

Brand new it's only 29.99 and if you get it used/trade it in, it doesn't cost much more than the normal NG. (I think)

Black has Arcade Ninja Gaiden (Unreleased on consoles for god knows how long, since the 80s I think, a fun old school beat em up) along with the original NES NG trilogy, you also have the ability to go "Ninja Dog" (Easy difficulty, incase you are having a tough time with the game), and other differences in core gameplay (AI Differences and different tactics in tackling bosses, think of NGB as the complete version of NG)

Normally you'd have to unlock Arcade NG off NG:Black, but according to your other thread it seemed like you were getting your XB modded so you can actually run the .xbe (Xbox executable) right off the disc and play Arcade NG off the bat :)

It is definitely a hard game, but not even close to the hardest of the NES library. There was a time when I could beat NG 1 and 2 without getting hit.

If you want a true challenge try Ghosts and Goblins on the NES. Impossible to beat that game.

Naaah. Insanely difficult yes, but not impossible. Sometimes you just gotta get lucky. I don't know anybody that can do it without dying once.

Games that kill you for playing them aren't fun :P

There's plenty of genuinely tough games out there that kill you for fucking up, not for, say, pushing the A button

I recorded a gameplay movie using rocknes of me beating the original ninja gaiden only dying once. I plan on going back and doing it without dying. Such a good fucking game. For a long time I couldn't beat the Jaquio, but its like I had an epiphany one day and owned him hard.

I think Tecmo got this idea from the last level of Castlevania 1, where the bats would do the same thing. They'd hang out up in the air, and then swoop down at light speed to attack in what seemed to be completely random patterns.

NES games were way, way harder than games today. Anyone that thought Xbox Ninja Gaiden was too hard should see how hard NG for the NES was. Rygar on NES was almost impossible, considering that it was legitmately a 10 hour game that you had to beat with 3 lives and no continues (or so I'm told).

you had unlimited continues in Rygar. What made it so hard is that its decently long, with no password or battery. And if you die on a boss, fucking forget it. Whatever powering up you did is gone, and you continue right at the boss.

Yeah, Ninja Gaiden was the game that forced me to master the "Cheap Programming Nudge." You had to nudge forward like 1 pixel at a time before trying a jump in that game to make FUCKING SURE that the spawn point for a fucking eagle was already onscreen and another one wasn't going to kick your ass when you moved forward.

Edit: Also the "sword-slash liftoff," where you start your jump with a slash just for insurance against any more FUCKING EAGLES.
