E3 2005: Ninja Gaiden 2 Not for 360?
Team Ninja does not confirm the sequel for Xbox 360. Could it be headed to the PS3?
by Hilary Goldstein

May 20, 2005 - An interesting thing happened on the way to speak with Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki -- Ninja Gaiden 2 could not be confirmed as an Xbox 360. Long assumed to be headed to Microsoft's next-gen system, it seems either Team Ninja isn't ready to make the 360 destination official or Gaiden 2 is secretly being developed for PS3 or GameCube Revolution. When we asked how NG 2 would improve on the 360, the translator let us know that Team Ninja would not confirm the next Gaiden for Xbox 2. That doesn't mean it isn't coming to 360, but it certainly opens the possibility for development on one of the other next-gen systems.

To add a little fuel to the fire, last year Itagaki informed IGN that Team Ninja was looking into developing titles for the next-gen Nintendo and Sony platforms. In any case, Ninja Gaiden 2 is a long way from reality as Team Ninja will not fully dedicate itself to developing the sequel until after DOA 4 is complete.

As for those who felt Ninja Gaiden on Xbox was too difficult, be afraid. The difficulty won't likely be lessened for the sequel. However, when asked if NG 2's difficulty would equal that of the ridiculously tough Ninja Gaiden: Hurricane Pack, Itagaki said that Hurricane Pack could be made so difficult because it was free. Well, we thought it was funny.

We'll continue to investigate the final platform destination for Ninja Gaiden 2. Our guess is that it's still Xbox 360, but we wouldn't be shocked if it ended up being PS3 or Revolution.

Itagaki is always going on about deving gmes for the most powerful platform, lets just wait and see what happens, maybe he just wants to see which is really the most powerful.

:lol

Ninja Gaiden sold well above expectations. Especially in North America. Deal with it haters! :D

Anyway, I think this is all bunk. Itagaki wants people to talk about Ninja Gaiden Black right now and not Ninja Gaiden 2. That is why he is being quiet about Gaiden 2. This is the closest I can see to him commenting on Ninja Gaiden 2. Taken from Ninja Gaiden Black interview at 1up:

http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=3&cId=3140456

1UP: That's a pretty interesting insight. So is the Xbox 360 the ideal hardware for developing Ninja Gaiden 2?

TI: Basically, yes, but it's still way too early to be talking about that. First, I want you to beat the crap out of the AI in Ninja Gaiden Black. Then, you can bring it up [laughs]. I'm sure you can tell by looking at the trailer, but we have changed the enemy placements starting as early as the first Ninja Fortress stage. Isn't it crazy how Murai now has white ninjas fighting alongside him?

I'd say Hilary is reaching for a story right now.

MAYBE multiplatform.

I could see him jumping ship..lets face it he has a history of it.

Edit:

Thinking about it though, it wouldnt be very smart to take the franchise away from a system where its pretty much certain to be the best in the genre, onto PS3 where it'll have to compete with DMC4 and God of War 2

its most probably on X360 but Itagaki doesnt want to make any comitments atm. I wouldnt be surprised if they move development to PS3.

Still, i expect more Team Ninja information at TGS

Itagaki is possibly looking for more moneyhats.
This is what all developers with content worth a damn should be doing if they're smart. They win the console wars, not the hardware makers.

I thought it sold > 500K??

It did but it bombed in Japan. Not sure about Europe.

If it switched platforms my money is on PS3. Itagaki loves working on the latest tech so this news wouldn't be much of a surprise....plus it would get more exposure.

Gaiden sold just like RE:4 did.

So if you call RE:4 sales shit remember that Gaiden's are also shit and vice versa.

Itagaki just said the other day in that 1UP interview that after NG Black they would move completely to 360 development, and that 360 was the ideal hardware for NG2.

Itagaki leaped all over the field last generation, so I wouldn't find this anything unlikely at all. Besides, the 360 is the lowest of the 3 consoles this time. It's the price for having a head start after all.

well, in all fairness, (IMO) RE4 would have sold much more on PS2, and it's arguable as to how much more Ninja Gaiden would have. Gaiden certainly has much stiffer competition on PS2 in it's genre than RE4 did.

Honestly I would like to have Ninja Gaiden2 on PS3/Rev just to read the reactions at Teamxbox :lol :lol :lol
I'm pretty sure that NG2 will be on X360 but it could be true that at the moment they haven't made a final decision and are expecting to see how DOA4 performs and of course to take a look at PS3/Rev devkits.

I thought it was confirmed taht Revolution was way down there in system power, compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

I'm not sure it's safe to call X360 the lowest of the three. Revolution, IMO, will be the 'lowest' based on Nintendo's constant talk. I think it'll be as feature-rich, in a basic sense, but won't have the computational power of either X360 or PS3. I think it's just gonna be a super version of the GC, with perfectly backward-compatible CPU and GPU. They simply look like they're aiming at spending their money on different things to separate their system from the others.

As for Team Ninja, I'd say that everything major they are going to do this coming gen will hit X360. There is the real possiblity of releasing on the other systems, though. As as was pointed out already, Itagaki has stated that Team Ninja is going full bore on X360 after NG Black is finished.

Reading way too much into this, they wouldnt confirm the platform for the first game forever if you recall even though Xbox was the assumption. Team Ninja went from being lost in the sea of Japanese developers on the DC/PS2 to the top of the heap when they jumped to Xbox... I dont see them leaving that behind.

Unless someone offers up better incentives than MS.

Not in March 2004. DMC3 and God of War were a year away.

Incorrect use of it's and its within the same sentence.
That's not just it, though.... I mean.... he used it correctly..... but then two words later he fucked it up! I had to read it several times to find out what happened.

This news makes me happy :)

Ninja Gaiden is pretty much the only Xbox game i've ever been interested in. A jump to PS3 would satisfy my NG needs.

every Team Ninja game gets rumored to go on every platform under the sun, especially during this past generation, but it seems to always find its way exclusively on Microsoft's platforms :) Microsoft and the Xbox fans have showed Itagaki and Team Ninja a ton of respect (and likely money hats) so I don't think he would betray that, especially considering that his input was taken into consideration during 360's development and he recently professed his love for the platform in the 1up interview...

If it really does, I will actually respect Itagaki for the first time. I always considered his talk PR Microsoft Money, however if it sticks with his (I'll make it for the most powerfull console) mantra, i'll be seriously surprised.

That's the dumbest shit ever.

Ninja Gaiden IS THE action game on a Microsoft console. It has no competition.

Put it on the PS3 and you get a Devil May Cry 4 versus Ninja Gaiden 2 versus Metal Gear Solid 4 versus God of War 3 versus Resident Evil 5 etc. etc.

Team Ninja has the fanbase. And yes, selling around 500,000 is DAMN good. Not everything needs to be a Grand Theft Auto to be a success. So Team Ninja has the MS fanbase, it has pretty much ZERO competition. Unless you think Otogi is comparable to Ninja Gaiden... :lol :lol :lol
