Ninja Gaiden 4 IGN hands-on preview

I just want it to be really hard and not have any difficulty modes. If they can pull that off, then I'm all in.

If not, I'm a huge TN fan but with Platinum involved honestly I'll wait for reviews. The flash is cool but is this really a Ninja Gaiden game? I suppose we'll see. Cautiously optimistic.

Edited to add: What they are showing looks great.

It might be good. But the new hero doesn't excite me. Just let me play as Ryu. I don't care about anyone else.

Just watched some.

Why is the character so small compared to the enviroment? It looks like he's a fucking mini man or something. or a miniature??

Look at the stuff on the walls. The computerized telephone or whatever it is. Look how big it is compared to the character!?!?!

Wtf is going onnnnnnnnnnn

Why is he Tiny Ninja??? Why are all the assets so HUGE in comparison?

Not to mention that lame ass 1 hand forward, one hand behind me running animation

Jesus christ another failure from Platinum, what a surprise.

The camera gets enormously zoomed out at times, yes, which does seem strange for a precision and timing based character action game.

I get the sense that they want you to steamroll through most group based fights with a wider view of everything that's going on in the arena, and then the camera will get in closer for boss encounters where you don't need to watch your periphery.

Could help avoid the camera issues plaguing its predecessors.

Im still kinda optimistic indeed because fuck me I've been missing NG, NG2B is a nice filler but also not actually Black.

Not sure if I have faith with the new character, who I find lame (from the start). But we'll wait and see!

Little ninjas deserve the representation, its about time.

Looks really good so far. It seems more accessible than previous entries, that's not exactly a good thing, but nor is it a bad thing either.

Might just have to start the game on the hardest available difficulty to feel it out.

I'm just gonna say it. This game looks really hip. Graphics and animations are carrying hard here. Style over substance. I'm getting these vibes:

Nioh 3 is the real new Ninja Gaiden game. I hope I'm wrong.

Game looks badass tbh and i don't mind the accessibility options/difficulty options. If you wanna have the game bust your balls in terms of difficulty then you can just play on max difficulty or raise the difficulty to your preference and keep it moving. Combat looks fast, fluid, and extremely satisfying which combined with the artstyle and environments gives a sense of adrenaline and thrill that ninja gaiden is known for.

Compared to OG NG games it's about 10% more zoomed out in similar environments.

Likely did it to ensure camera functions correctly per modern requirements to not deemed "shit camera and controls" like many in the NG2 Black thread said it was.

I think if they can zoom it back in 10% more without losing the camera to becoming shit it would be much better, but I'm not losing sleep it stays the way it is.

You know a game is looking good when that's the only complaint GAF actually has…

Apparently even normal difficulty will bestow you extra healing items if you fail an encounter multiple times.
I mean ninja gaiden 2 even at its absolute WORSE rode this paper thin line of fairness that made you always feel like you could strategize and beat the challenges but this is hot garbage. I get the platinum is helping but it just screams their gameplay style, not Team Ninjas.

The wild thing is I do not get why this is even a point of discussion or contention for this series. There's always been bitch made mode up to Jesus gamer mode.

I do think a LOT of people who used to play on easy got conditioned with too many games on normal being so easy that they expect normal to function as bitch made mode. So seeing this series cater to bitch mades via normal isn't par the course.

Normal mode starts on hard here it seems. I'm good with that.

Easy mode should make fun of the player like NGB

We need more gatekeeping not less.
The only time that gatekeeping difficulty ever made sense was when arcade operators wanted to leech more quarters from hapless young kids.

Difficulty options are fine. If you want harder difficulty it's right there for the taking. The only reason I could think that one would want harder games without options for easier play would be to be able to hang one's hat on completing a game that others couldn't, but at that point, I feel like you might need some better hashtag life goals or something.

Wait you're right lol. Considering that phone and the rolling gates...

I'm the opposite. No reason to gatekeep shit like this. Have a base mode as the "intended" difficult with options for the rest.
People also have the option to go play something else. No every game has to cater to everyone. That's exactly one of the problems of the modern game industry

Quite a bit of additional gameplay footage.

It's by goblin face Ryan Mcafrey, I wouldn't take his opinion seriously, Alien isolation, never forget...

Having said that, the action looks WAY TOO...air-y ? frenetic? too zoomed out ? Iike it lacks impact or something and 'll have to repeat myself here, but, unfortunately, it reminds me of Ninja Gaiden 3 and that's not a good thing...

Guess we'll have to wait and see

Ya ninja gaiden 2 on the 360 had 5 difficulty options i believe which made it easy to tune things to your preference. I'm also fine with normal starting on hard here as well because i'm someone who enjoyed Nioh and i find those games much harder than ninja gaiden personally lol. I definitely don't think this game is going to be too difficult though for casuals like maybe a fromsoftware game is, or nioh etc.

I'm of the mind to set my expectations that this is basically metal gear solid revengance with a ninja gaiden coat.

We will never get NG1&2 quality again. It's not going to happen here.

I am fine settling for MGSR2.0.

I'll have to agree with the bolded unfortunately, also, maybe Itagaki was a 3-hit wonder indeed but, he really cooked with those 2 Ninja Gaidens...

The problem is that Platinum's quality is all over the place so you could get something of the quality of Revengence or something much, much worse.

Ninja Gaiden Black is probably my favorite game of all time. I spent 1000+ hours on it over many years. It's definitely my most played game ever. (Not bragging - I know people have done 10x that in other games. Just reference)

This looks like a proper sequel to NG2, which is fine if they do it well. I just hope Platinum has put in the time to properly setup essence rewards like Black did, or something equivalent. Once I figured out that system, it led me down a rabbit hole of figuring out how to be more efficient at playing the game and completing encounters faster. That was what inspired my OCD with Black. I'd love to fall in love with a game like that again.

It's only going to get worse now, especially since they've lost even more talent this year. I wonder how many of the core staff who originally worked on this are even still there at this point?

This looks a notch above their latest endeavors.

I think they're out to prove something with this title.

I'm not being cautiously optimistic- everything they've shown so far is making it a day one for me.

Unless reviews come in 5/10 across the board or some shit, then I'm in.

There NO way this is worse than astral chain or bayonetta 3 or ninja gaiden 3. There's no evidence suggesting that.

What should give us a little hope or at least wonder, is how much co-development is being done with Team Ninja. They certainly still have action game chops. Like I mentioned in the other thread, it is interesting that this Ninja Gaiden isn't starring Ryu, which could be Koei Tecmo hedging their bets. At the very least, this will be a different feeling Ninja Gaiden as Ninja Gaiden's design changed after the Itagaki fallout. The Sigma games have a different design philopshy and Platinum, even at their best, also has their own. I don't have a lot of faith in the project, but here is hoping for the best. It will be fascinating to watch unfold if nothing else.

They've lost talent since those releases so I wouldn't be so confident.

Best path forward is to find out who is in charge of combat and what was their previous works.

Then we can either panic or breathe easy.

I have no panic. I'll wait for Electric Underground's impressions once the game is released. He has a fondness for both Itagaki and Sigma Ninja Gaiden titles as well as a lot of Platinum's efforts.

Ryan saying he's been a fan of Ninja Gaiden for 20 years as if it was a badge of honor. How about being a fan for nearly 40 years sound, eh? (The original Ninja Gaiden released in 1988)

Seriously though, both Ragebound and this one look great. I just wish NG4 had both Obliteration Techniques AND Steel on Bone attacks. The latter felt so crunchy and satisfying to pull off that they deserve to be in a better game.

I feel like he and i were the only ones who liked Wanted Dead.

He gets it for sure.

I don't see this game ever achieving itagaki ran games, but it can absolutely be as fun as a revengance, which is what it needs for me to praise it.
