Ninja Gaiden II IGN review

Eh...

Bayonetta bitches. Bayonetta.

Kamiya made the best action game in 2001, now he's seen the kids have their fun with the DMC sequals, God of War, and Ninja Gaiden. But play times over.

I'd also like to chime in and wonder why people are bitching about a 8.7.

Just because Hilary is massive Ninja Gaiden fan, that doesn't mean he's going to pull a James Mielke and automatically give the game a 10 did you?

We'll see. He is making some bold claims about the game though... saying that it will be the climax of action games and that all previous action games before it have been inconsequential. A lot of new stuff has been introduced within the span of 7 years in the action genre and Kamiya will have to be able to tackle most of those mechanics in order to deliver something that is worthwhile.

And the game still holds up today. In fact, it's probably the best representation of challenge, combat, level design, atmosphere, and art design that not even the DMC or Ninja Gaiden sequals compare.

Also, Kamiya has earned the right to make such bold claims considering he's four for fuckin' four with his games. All his games have a 91% + average on gamerankings, easily. Not even Kojima can make such a claim. And certainly not Itagaki, and to be fair -- not even Itsuno (the guy currently helming the DMC games)

Historically and statistically speaking, it's much more likely that he does deliver than not.

I highly doubt Itagaki is going to talk shit about Kamiya anymore, his previous games or his upcoming games, especially after the 'out-of-the-gate' review average NG II has been getting.

It hurts me to see NGII re-using bosses. It was not acceptable in DMC4, damnit. At least NGII probably won't go to the same lengths as DMC4 at the very least.

All I'm saying is that Kamiya has an incredible track record, and it's quite odd to see Itagaki talk so much shit about him when all of Kamiya's games (not just some, but all) have been massive critical hits. Unanimously.

My appreciation for Kamiya isn't due to any sexual indulgences (I am truly amazed at the need for using such language...out of nowhere) but I think it's pretty obvious these complaints of more of the same we're seeing in action games is probably going to be rectified with Bayonetta. The genre hasn't changed since DMC1, that's half the reason why he's making Bayonetta.

I'll still be buying Bayonetta even if it turns out to be mediocre cause I do like kamiya's games even though they are quite shallow

I was mistaken. I thought Kojima directed Zone of the Enders 1, and 2 for that matter but of which was grossly underrated by the press. Nevermind -- I didn't realize Kojima has only directed the MGS games, which yes -- have all supremely dominated critically.
 
BTW I have never played any of the DOA Beach Volleyball games but they would have to be pretty bad to be worse than the obnoxious, embarrassingly easy Okami.

Considering Itagaki has a certain PR style, he'll talk shit no matter what. Seeing people bitch about this style is really sad...it reminds me of kids complaining about bullies at school...

btw, the "out-of-the-gate" reviews of NG2 are pretty retarded. I would think you could empathize with that being a DMC fan--lets face it, reviewers don't know how to properly review these games. They have a AAA action game on their hands and they bitch about the exploration, platforming, or difficulty.
It happened to DMC4 as well. As evidenced by both of their low-80s gamerankings averages.

I thought people were disappointed that NG II received an 8.7 because they anticipated Hillary/Eric (noted and self admitted NG fans of IGN) to give it a high 9 or something.

I can't answer this question objectively at all, but all I know is my dream review of this game would discuss the difficulty in terms of the AI, not "omg so cheap, they're killing me, the enemyz are actually killing me" kinda way. It would go into detail about amputation affects gameplay, which no reviewer has done yet. It also wouldn't try to elevate itself above the shitty story--in fact, it probably wouldn't mention the story at all.

I'm sick of writing this post now, so i'll stop.

edit: i'm not saying it has to be a 9 or 10 review. I don't think TN is bulletproof...

Good news for NG lovers:

I saw the the NG2 demostration from (Asia)retail version of NG 2 today.the loading issue(which revealed in gamersyde's first 10 minutes video) is gone.

Frankly,I couldn't say the loading time is totally gone,but it wouldn't bother you as they were in the review copy.

Other impressions later.

The combat is the star of Ninja Gaiden 2 once you get the hang of it. All the old weapons and combos from the original are back in full force.

The saving grace here is the fanbase. If you’re in this group, there’s no reason why you won’t love Ninja Gaiden 2, despite its faults.
